When the drive is cranked, it becomes a nondescript distortion. It shines at low to med gain dirty settings, but is uninspiring on the clean setting, and the gain knob does nothing. It's just too tight when it's cranked. Part of the charm of the Silvertone is how beautifully crappy it sounds dimes.
I completely agree. Great pedal. I just saw it on Raffael Saddique’s pedalboard build on the Vertex channel and he’s one of the most prolific producer/writer/players and has written and produced a lot of legends. He had it on his board so it can’t be bad. I almost bought it several times because the demos sound great.
Josh, all of those pedals have one thing in common: They're too small to be cool. You need to put them in enclosures the size of Shaq's shoe boxes, and then they'll sell to all the hipsters.
I tested the Lucky Cat today and I must say it is THE BEST DELAY PEDAL I’VE EVER HEARD! Seriously, magic tone all over, it is extremely well thought and designed. The ratio knob is not stepped (a surprise) and is so easy to user overall because it really sounds great at any setting and it’s very easy to set up to what you need just by listening to it. The only thing that reaaally fucks me up is the continuous eternal tap tempo light, which is great in a way, but also kind of drives you mad. But still, you’re a genius, keep making pedals!!!
This episode could be called, "the list of pedals Zach Robertson wants to buy, but just doesn't have the money." Even though I do want the Color Box over the Crayon. Also, make the Loud Is More Good V2 with an FX loop and red tolex, and I'd still be to broke to buy it
I think the reason people don't buy it is because it's so overpriced for what it is. I love the JHS stuff but a clean fenderish amp that costs $2600 is a bit steep considering you can get most fender amps for half that and they come with fx loops and reverb and sometimes trem.
???? the cheeseball and muffletta are VERY different pedals. im about to make my first big (>$150) pedal purchase and its gonna be the cheeseball. its fine if you dont get what makes the big cheese sound so interesting but comparing the sound to a muff is laughable
Lucky Cat was my first delay and JHS pedal because it's so versatile. All the reviews and demos I watched of it got great reviews... It's also a mystery to me why it's not popular. The pink was a selling point for me too 🤷
One of my absolute favorite channels. It’s unique, and I just love the style of the videos. You’ve got so many great people working behind the scenes to make the vision come to light. Take you guys! 🎸
Stereörb is saddened to discover that Lucky Cat is unloved, because Lucky Cat (in PINK) is my favorite delay pedal. Please assure all the Lucky Cats waiting to be adopted that they will be loved when they find their forever homes.
The 'Twin Twelve' is possibly my favourite pedal I own! I used it on my song "Ideology". It's just perfect!! The breakup is undeniable. Thanks for creating it, man!
The Cheese Ball is great, one of my personal favorites, but Legends of Fuzz came out like some 7 months later (or that’s what it felt like at least, time is a blur) so I think it got overshadowed, that’s my only guess because I love the sounds of it
Good point. I didn’t think about that. I bought the Chesseball and had friends borrow it and everyone really liked the pedal. I think he should re-launch the Twin Twelve because that’s the real hidden gem of the group. Maybe all some clipping options to it, change the artwork even though I personally like it, it couldn’t hurt if you made me more relatable to the amp it’s supposed to sound like. Have you played the Legends of Fuzz Bender? Every Bender clone I’ve bought and played and been good, but not the same as the original. They are always like 75% of the way there.
I know he is joking but in sense JHS cannibalizes their own sales buy making too many great products in short periods of time. Us guitar player a put in a situation to only buy our needs no always everything we want. The amp is awesome but really expensive for average guitar players. The amp has amazing reviews and we all know it’s sounds good. Maybe make smaller one the cost a bit less.
Trust me, if I had the money. I would buy multiples of every single thing you release. I own several JHS pedals and love them all. Love your stuff Josh, never stop doing what you do!!!
If I could only have one delay on my board it would probably be (and has been in the past) the Lucky Cat (in Pink!). Great tap tempo delay that sounds amazing in a great form factor
This feels like the humane society doing a save the kittens video. I am sure one in three people watching this video will adopt one of these pedals and give it a loving home.
Honestly, I think part of the disconnect is that pedal builders often name their inventions with allusions to other pedals or companies, and a lot of the public doesn't know that. With the Cheeseball, if I didn't know about Lovetone, I would definitely have assumed it was supposed to be an ’80s-style, hair metal, Marshall-and-rackmount rig distortion.
Gotta say josh, I laughed pretty hard when I saw the first pedal was the lucky cat. I JUST bought this pedal (prior to seeing this video) Honestly, it just had that "thing"and out performs many other high end delays IMO. Its the most esthetically pleasing pedal on my board. Pink is more better!
But a twin twelve. I've owned like 50+ pedals over the past two years, its the only pedal I've never even thought of getting rid off. It sounds so fucking good I swear
I had the pedal and an actual Silvertone amp and the pedal didn't come anywhere close to the amp tones. The pedal has it's own sound, which is awesome that it works for you but for me i was hoping for it to sound more like an actual Silvertone amp, which it did not.
THE TWIN TWELVE PEDAL SAVED MY LIFE. (Well....not really, but it makes me happy,) and it's literally always 'ON' on the clean setting, even when I'm not playing..and it's plugged into an actual twin twelve amplifier which I play through (although I don't have the correct original cabinet because I live in Australia and someone must have bought it out here, but left the nest/cabinet behind due to its bigness and something we call 'The Tyranny of Distance')' with the JHS Tw12 pedal added the head iwent from awesome to , not awesome+awesome as you may think; but went to awesome². I was concerned at first that I may create some awesome phase cancellation or comb filtering ,or that it would be like when John Malkovich climbed through the existential 'wormhole' into being able to experience Being John Malkovich (director Spike Jonze 1999) and things get a little ......odd. But no, Awesome squared. You may take it from my cold dead hand. Or sell me a 1484 cabinet! With the original black Jensen c12qs! I am going to buy a backup Twin12 pedal now. I play a Kay Twin Thin guitar through it too sometimes I wonder if I could custom order a Twin Thin 12 string? Wait, where are you going? I was about to let you speak. *sigh* 😬 🙁

Yeah he actually plays something that can be used in a real context of the effect
JHS: Makes the Muffletta, a pedal that has 6 different fuzz pedals in one for ~200$
Also JHS: "Why aren't people buying the cheese ball???"
Exactly
???? the cheeseball and muffletta are VERY different pedals. im about to make my first big (>$150) pedal purchase and its gonna be the cheeseball. its fine if you dont get what makes the big cheese sound so interesting but comparing the sound to a muff is laughable
To be fair about the edge having a “Crayon” pedal in his rig, he also has at least 1 of each of the pedals behind you in his rig 😇
This was genius. And now, just to piss you off, I'm probably going to buy one. BTW, the Twin Twelve sounds amazing.
I'm one of the two people who were thinking of buying the Cheese Ball, thanks for convincing me not too
11:36 that’s the first Verve record tone right there! I think Nick McCabe used a big cheese on that record
My unlucky Lucky Cat resets its clock speed every time it's powered up. So in other words you lose your settings. Josh you gotta fix that maybe?
Stereörb is saddened to discover that Lucky Cat is unloved, because Lucky Cat (in PINK) is my favorite delay pedal. Please assure all the Lucky Cats waiting to be adopted that they will be loved when they find their forever homes.
Man, it's weird that the Twin Twelve doesn't sell, because I absolutely love how it sounds.
We live in a time of SOOOO many great choices that sometimes....we just have to choose one over another sadly. I want them all. Wallet says no.
I love how you don't take yourself too seriously. It makes it really entertaining and enjoyable to watch.
I think josh should own this passive aggressive telemarketer character I love it
I'm the one person who bought the spring tank, it's a terrible reverb but I love it!
Damn I bought an alpine way back when and thought it was great. More reverbs need presets or at least a favorite switch!
I did 😆
I just loved those trem-arm moments withe the cat-thingy and the cheesey thing. I must learn to do that!
I’ve sold one copy of my first album from 2010. I have 3 albums. This video means a lot to me.
I've had my eye on the lucky cat delay for a while. I'm glad everyone else is just keeping their eye on it as well.
I got rid of my spring tank because it was extremely subtle even when the settings were maxed out.
Man that cheeseball with delay was sick
Seriously, can we have a segment of one of the episodes dedicated to that bass tone?
This episode is GOLD!
The thing with Josh is that every pedal sounds good when he plays.
The thing with me is that every pedal sounds bad when I play
@@jstndi haha same here
its almost as if he designs them, and to his own ear, and knows the sweet spots
Me: Saving up for a twin twelve.
JHS: Post this video
Me: *Crying*
I play a Kay Twin Thin guitar through it too sometimes
I wonder if I could custom order a Twin Thin 12 string?
Wait, where are you going?
I was about to let you speak.
*sigh*
😬
🙁
The madness deepens. Is no one else concerned for his safety.... Poor Josh
Making that amp white was the best decision youve ever made! Makes me happy to see it in the demos everytime. Its beautiful.
Great video concept, Josh. Very entertaining! Love what you do for the industry.
Twin Twelve is a monster vintage tone machine
JOSHHH I was the fan who made that playlist for the Spoon record! I made that playlist back in 2019 of my favorite Spoon hits & won their #MyBestOfSpoon contest! They released it as a limited vinyl for record store day. You were actually the person who turned me on to "Who Makes Your Money?" So glad you enjoyed my selections such a pleasant surprise :,) let's jam some spoon sometime!
Can't believe I made record time 😭😭😭
@@jasonjezek7240 me neither lol cool story
Transference is what i would call, a perfect album
You managed to play the Twin Twelve and not sound like Jack White, well done!
Absolutely the most entertaining channel on pedals. Someone who knows stuff from inside while TPS knows only from the outside
Both very good but this is over and above anything else
I have a reoccurring dream. The Crayon has a control voltage jack that can be routed to either pre-vol or EQ/Tilt...Then I wake up and have to keep my hand on the Crayon. Josh'll Fix It
And this is why I absolutely love JHS.
Man, the Lucky Cat is so good. I wish I had the money to buy one.
Jokes on you, I've got a Crayon and love it. It's fantastic for bass rigs.
The DD-5 and DE-7 have been the two delays that have never left my side. How have I never heard of the lucky cat?! 🤩
I'm constantly finding out about great pedals AFTER companies have discontinued them. Would have liked a Twin 12.
for real
