    Shoutout to the sharp-eyed smarty pants who caught a mistake in the episode. Turns out, we totally goofed when explaining the 'shift' controls on the Colour Box-they don’t control the 'Q.' Like the 1073, the Colour Box doesn’t have a 'Q' control. We got our EQ terms mixed up! Being a huge nerd is hard sometimes.Turning the shift controls counterclockwise moves the boosted or cut frequency toward the lower end of that band, and turning them clockwise moves it toward the higher end. At least the diagram in the video got it right! (Shoutout to Austin for the accurate visuals.) Thanks for keeping us on our toes and helping us set the record straight.

    • @SolidBody55
      @SolidBody55 2 месяца назад +4

      That was actually the first thing that I reacted to. You're changing the center frequency of the band, not the Q 🙂

    • @ant1sokolow
      @ant1sokolow 2 месяца назад +4

      I was about to do that comment. It may be cool (and useful ?) to have a third row of blue buttons for Q control and make the EQ fully parametric.. But perhaps the circuit is already complicated enough for the pedal format

    • @the_nondrive_side
      @the_nondrive_side 2 месяца назад +1

      In parametric eq terms thats usually "center frequency" but it's OK. Some don't even bother explaining what the function does

    The grey is good marketing, IMO. Anyone who knows the classic Neve consoles associates that colour scheme with the 1073 and 1081 preamp/eq modules from those big iron, big sound behemoths. I understand why JHS wanted to fit in with their own aesthetic, and that's great. But I didn't realise the Colorbox was a Neve analogue until I saw the thumbnail for this video with the grey box with blue and red knobs, so it's great to have it as an option. I was never really interested in the Colorbox, thinking it was just another eq but as a long term engineer who cut my teeth on Neves and SSLs, I am a lot more interested now. And as the video shows, for a lot more than guitar.

      @@Skyne_E_Vader So I used to have two of them in stereo, and while it was FINE, it was also a pain in the ass. For one, in my studio setup, having side jacks but top power means there's no way to position them without a heap of wasted space. I even put together right-angled XLR cables to help them fit, but they end up messy regardless. The second and more annoying problem for stereo, is that with no way to link controls between the two sides, you're constantly dancing back and forth trying to make the same moves on both channels while also managing gain-matching so that you're not blowing out your ears. So yeah, it was a nice sounding setup, but I ended up selling it and replacing it with 500 series modules including a stereo EQ. Much more ergonomic and honestly it sounds better. If you want that in a pedal format, get an OTO BOUM or maybe an Elektron Analog Heat.

    Its such a beautiful thing seeing a whole video without sarcasm. The sarcasm might work in the studio as an in joke at the end of a long week but it doesn't always translate and feels like you are speaking to someone other than the watching audience which feels isolating. In contrast this is full of your amazing sweetness as people, honesty, intelligence and clarity of communication it really leaves you feeling good. This video (and Janek Gwyzdalas endorsement) really made me reconsider getting one. I bought both this and the Superbolt because you sold me on them but took them back because when i got them home they didnt actually do what I needed or maybe couldnt work out how to use them in my set up. Thanks for another awesome video - Josh and crew !! I’ve had the white V2 for a couple years and only dabbled with it a little. Now I understand it better and look forward to being creative with it. Down side is I need at least two more.

    I’m thinking that this is what has been missing all along from my kazoo pedalboard! Will my social acceptance increase? Will the mockery & jealousy finally stop?? (Once again, well done Josh!)

    Josh/Nick/team,
    You guys are awesome. I’d love to see some vids about the recording gear you guys use for these videos. Preamps, audio interfaces(?), DAW info. Your jams are always recorded & mixed super well and this kind of episode would be awesome and enjoyed by many! Or at least me.

    I ❤ the Colour Box
    I hope to one day, "hopefully soon," get back in the game & empty my pockets in efforts to own a Colour Box. I'm from Malaysia & the Ringgit (RM) has been rock-bottom for a long while now. But it might be picking-up in the "near" years to come.
    I ❤ the Colour Box!!!!!!!!!!

    This is actually something I need in my studio, I think. Good way to split the guitar signal, going both to a live amp and direct into the box at the same time, so you can re-amp it later, for example, or do other interesting stuff.

    I picked up one of these primarily for tracking bass. It sounds great on anything. Honestly, it holds it's own next to my Neve, Aurora and BAE preamps.

      Same! I scratch my head at how people afford all this stuff lol. I have a decent job, but with bills and how expensive shit is nowadays, I couldn’t imagine being able to spend this kind of money, on stuff like this.

    If I buy this, and 2 weeks later a pedal Ive been waiting for you to build -hypothetically called *The Colour Strip* comes out, and it’s this pedal….plus….a Neve Portico 5043 style compressor….my kids will get really sick of beans and hot dogs for the next couple months while I pay these off. 😉😉😉😉 Double *hot* dog dare you to make it!

    My Colour Box v2 is the crown jewel of my board. I got it so that could juice a Shure microphone going into a Harbinger speaker inside my high school English classroom. It quite literally gave me my “voice”. My voice came through the speaker with so much power without having to raise my voice or tone. It calmed the room down. I still use it for that purpose, or sometimes to juice a guitar amp. It’s the one pedal I’ll never part with. I got mine used from a Guitar Center and I think there’s something wrong with it, but even with the probable damage on the inside, I love it. One day I’ll send jt in to you for repair. Y’all do repairs, right? Anyways, congrats on 10 years. Thanks for giving me my voice.

      Side note, the students love clicking the pedal on and off. The whole thing makes learning feel like a show/performance. More pedals in classrooms!

    I'm so glad you're releasing this in a -not- Bright White, Bright Colored knobs version! I could never have that on my pedalboard; just too loud and distracting. Love this new version, and the vintage looking knobs. I'll be buying the gray version stat.
