  • The wallaby colony on the Isle of Man is well established, especially in the Northern Curragh. While they are cute and fluffy, are there hidden issues with the population?

Fantastically put together, well done. Great to see a mini documentary on the island environment issues.
All the people speaking were knowledgeable and not afraid say what needs to be said. However much non environment people want a fluffy creature on the island, everyone else knows our native habitat can’t cope if something isn’t done about the wallabies.

We should release a couple of the lynxes from the wild life park, that would keep their population in check

Agree with Pedros. Our native wildlife and habitats are far more important than an alien non native. There’s so much evidence across the world what damage non native introductions do to sensitive habitats yet the Iom gov decision makers are too scared to do anything about the wallabies. The biosphere is just a tick in the box to them it seems.

Yet there’s no real official evidence to show wallabies are having a negative impact in the UK

I agree that the wallaby is an alien species, but I find it laughable when they talk about it doing damage. The Isle of Man's original biota has been completely destroyed. What is left is an ecological rubbish tip. Nonsense when he says that the island never had any native mammalian herbivores, as there were deer in prehistoric times. The people on the Isle can basically pick whatever ecology they want, because there is nothing to save. If they want wallabies, why not? If they don't that's fine too. It makes no difference.

In 2017,, When I heard an announcement come over the tannoy system, that the TT superstock race was to be put back an hour because of wallabies on the course,,,,, I actually thought it was a joke.
