@@johnmead8437 We had life jackets mate lol
dudenseriously we need a monthly update on the extermination, maybe contact the WWF to get some pressure put on them for a definitive statement that they will not exterminate the poor wallabys!!
@@johnmead8437 Invasive species are those deemed a detriment to the native flora and faun to the area. These are not, species on their own accord as you've said have taken over more territory on their own, not just from human intervention. Humans are way more destructive to every single environment on this planet, no other species is as much an invasive species as our own.
You have no idea what I do and don't do so do not lecture about personal responsibilities as far as environment. How green of a life style do you live? Do you help clean beaches or parks or road sides? Come to the rescue of animals in distress even on a small scale? Do you do what you can, no matter how small.
So yes John, these poor Wallabies, they are doing nothing wrong and are no way an invasive species, and at least a more notable public outcry can save them. At this point they are pretty much a naturalized wild species to the area.
Great news that they're still there. Even though they aren't native to the area, it doesn't look like they have any negative impact there. They've had 80 years to adapt to that home as well. Would be nice if the owners just let them be and if they want the island to be a tourist spot then the wallabies would be an interesting addition for anyone going to stay at a few cabins on such an island
Went to Loch Lomond in summer 2021. Found out about the wallaby island when we hired kayaks and were amazed when we actually saw some when we paddled to it. Amazing experience.
love that
Yay! So glad to hear they are still there. Someone should let the new owner know that the wallabies would be a great attraction for their proposed luxury resort.
That's what I don't get! if they're planning on turning it into some 'luxury' glamping or cabins destination or whatever, surely wallabies are a selling point?.. absolute morons! But publicity about them 'eradicating wallabies' wouldn't look good for any business venture, so I hope this gets as much attention as possible really..
@@johnmead8437 good idea, there arent many left..small children of glampers would make ideal prey as well!
@@johnmead8437 i would think it was obvious i was joking.
Was expecting Nessie to help look for them with you guys 😂
What baffles me is the fact that having a wild colony of wallabies on the island would (to me at least) increase the desirability of holidaying somewhere like inchonnachan. It's such a unique draw to somewhere, specifically in the UK. They're endemic and have been for the best part of a century, so don't threaten neighbouring wildlife and arguably are now a keystone creature of the island. I just don't see a glaring downside to them that you can't argue the contrary.
Agree
You might be right it might not be an invasive species but it might also be becoming an invasive species, could also travel toddler islands
I’m so glad they are still there ❤
I’ll put a few quid towards moving the wallabies to another nearby island so that they don’t get eradicated.
@@johnmead8437 how are they pests? They’ve been on an island for 80 years. The same tiny island. They’re not like the signal crayfish.
The Red-necked, aka Bennetts, wallabies you have there are originally from Tasmania. In case anyone was wondering how an Australian animal was thriving in Scotland. I have my own small mob, which literally hang out in my front yard come dusk. The females here have finally dumped their pouch young, as we are heading into autumn, and it's time to fatten up for winter.
so glad they are still there! ♡
Hey cookie, I camped on the island with my girlfriend in September and we saw easily a dozen and we didn't even cover a quarter of the Island we camped by the beach near to where the burnt down house was. We could hear them bouncing around in the bracken as we slept, I did find some used shotgun cartridges that I facebook messaged you at the time which is very upsetting. I really appreciate you and Jacob making these vids, it is a really special island and it is difficult to be in a bad headspace when you are on an island with Scottish wallabies! Keep up the great work!
I remember! The northern part of the Island seems to be the hotspot for sure, I got nervous when I couldn't find them there in the usual spots + I totally agree, Island is a gem!
The people that own the Island Aren't very bright!!! YEAH! Like mentioned if they build a resort and then posted you can go sightseeing for wallabies. So many more people would wanna come to the Stupid resort just to see the wallabies. Man are they fuckin cute 😍.
If anything relocation should be the solution. Whether it's another island or to their native home in Australia. So sad to think that this gracious, harmless, herbivorous species needs to be eradicated for "Luxury" its sickening. They never asked to be put on the island.
Don't you feel that by disclosing the fact the wallabies are still there (in this Vid), the people who wanted to kill them will try harder to do that?
A wallaby was spotted in Gateshead a couple months ago
There was capercaillie nesting on that island & the wallabies kept smaching the eggs allegedly.
Highly doubt the Wallabies had anything to do with it, there are Fallow Deer on there too. Capers are fast declining all over the place sadly
@@johnmead8437Well said, common sense is in short supply.on the subject.
Probably get some footage of the flamingos next time you visit, Lomond is on the downward spiral for a whole multitude of reasons. Very sad to see...
Didn’t know about this, googled it and like… why?! That’s just not needed 😂
Humanity greed will one day come back to Haunt us True Wildlife areas are decreasing sadly @Cookie
It’s up to the land owner, would you let someone tell you what to do in your back garden?
@@matthewhale2464 except, this land is not their residence, nor will it ever be. It isn't a small square of urban/sub-urban land, it is an uninhabited (by humans) island in the centre of a lake. There is no comparison between the two situations.
Shoaib's point is already in action on a global scale with the amount of species driven to extinction in the last 100-200 years. None of which were just intruding somebody's back garden, often human expansion and greed intruded the animal's habitats causing their deaths.
What a weird, insensitive and sadly very intrinsically British hill to die on 🐀🐀
@@joewood791 How is it 'intrinsically British'? Travelled much?
@@kerryberry5786 given that I'm British and I've lived my whole life here, its quite easy to pick up that the British public are greedy and prefer to punish the poorest, with a punching down attitude. It's why the only non-Tory government here for my whole lifetime was the "new Labour" which was right-wing MPs masquerading in red ties. Therefore, saying its up to the land owner or pretending its even nearly the same having a millionaire, probably near billionaire who owns what is a unique and attractive natural island by nothing other than the results decisions of bureaucrats from centuries ago as somebody not being allowed to choose how they layout their garden is not only wrong but it is allowing whoever this filthy rich owner who doesn't see the value in the ecosystem on the island but the pound signs they could produce by ripping it apart to do so with some kind of backwards support (a la supporting that Hag thatcher in ripping apart industries and towns/cities for no good reason other than to break the will of those who opposed her - may she burn in hell for the rest of time)
If you have the foggiest idea about British history, then you know there is no place, no group of people who are more adept at finding land, killing the inhabitants and reaping the financial rewards without remorse than the British
@@joewood791 Not reading all that guff lol
3 uploads in a week...ITS A MIRACLE!!
Pumping them out!
It's sad that they plan to remove them. I didn't realise it was for sale. we could have crowdfunded an anomaly island!. Easy revenue from photo tours and so on.
Hi your such a legend, keep going with your wild work. And could you possibly search to find Water voles. Thx
Thanks man and yeah I'll try do something with Water Voles!
Hey Cookie! Huge fan! Which camera do you use?
Thanks man! and I'm rocking a GoPro 10 Black with MediaMod right now. I'm also borrowing a Canon 800D with a Sigma 150-600mm which I use to film wildlife etc. The wildlife/scenic stuff in this though was filmed by Jacob on a Canon 90D
It's cookie monster I love this guy
I've never been to the lake District
So I've just looked into this and it turns out it's Kirsty Young of Crime watch and desert island discs fame who has bought this island with her husband 😳
This is worse when you realise a group of a dozen where found completely skinned and left on the beach… I do not understand why you would do such a vile thing. Also did you see the memorial stones that litter the island, it’s extremely saddening reading about passed family members.
Not as sad as finding out the UK killed all the reindeer on South Georgia Island but still sad.
So sad bro just let em be 💔
what differs wallabies from kangaroos?
Wallabies are smallest and most skittish. Kangaroos are largest and can be as big as you. There's a third, the Wallaroo, which is medium sized and most varied behavior. They imprint on parents and are clingy. Like sugar gliders, they can be cute and cuddly if socialized early and often, but can be nasty to things they have nit imprinted upon.
Why in the fuck are they getting rid of the wallabies? Seems like someone needs to protest
Eradicate the wallabies? Who bought this island? The Empire?
Get life jackets I live and work on a large lake and iv seen too many people drown for want of a £20 life jacket
Very true
We actually did have life jackets this time lol
@@johnmead8437 Nah that's when Cookie gets trampled by a re introduced Bison and his camera man carried away by a re introduced sea eagle 🤣🤣🤣
I'm laughing but I wish the world would go Jurassic park 🤔
There's no way they got rid of the wallabys wtf I loved them the only interesting thing about our country animal wise the country has gone to shit trying to get rid of them cos I think they've started to kill them sorry mate about my rant but our countries wildlife is dying we cannot let this happen anymore I'm fed up
Yeah nothing else interesting in our country except for some wallabies on an island…. Muppet 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wallabies are increadably destructive outside their native range unfortunately I know from working in NZ where I was part of a survey on an area currently having a 500 km fence built around it to contain them . Think of the damage grey squirrels have done to our native Reds
@@BadlydrawnBen these are on a tiny island with not many other animals
