Thanks Bill, these two videos are very informative! I am almost thinking about having a go, if I ever find a suitable donor! Cheers, Jim L
That was extremely entertaining and informative. The pickups have that factory installed look to them and I like them. Looking forward to the next installment. Great video, Jersey Bill
I find an old bread knife cuts foam and similar materials better than a hot knife. I also find that computer screws used to hold hard drives and other things and the case closed are great little screws for model trains and I keep them all when stripping old unworking PC's. When I make loads I usually make them to stay in the wagon and not come out..
Bill, a pin vice may be better than your power drill for intricate work.
Might be of interest… Lima 0-4-0s, the pickups from those seem to be rather good for a job like this, I’m currently in the process of fitting some cut-down brass pickups from one of the 0-4-0s to the tender of a cut-down 2MT I’m working on, they seem to have good allowance for the lateral movement of the wheels, and with a bit of oil and suitable weight the tender rolls rather smoothly
Now this is genuinely interesting. Ted Polet mounted a 'Caley' / Desmond body on an N gauge chassis for his OO9 Scottish layout - it gave me the idea to use the same top on a modified TT Berlinnerbahn mech to make an OO12 / 3 foot gauge locomotive, and it makes a very appealing heavy industrial narrow gauge loco. Indeed, I liked it so much I made two - one in BR lined black and the other in Cale blue, and fitted the first one with a Ffestiniog type tender...... I suspect there may be a lot more of these little adaptations out there.
Great video bill 👍 a very interesting watch 😊 cheers bill 👍
Hi Bill, try to make a coil of wire wrapped around the axle, put one with the insulated wheel to the other side, glue it to the bottom of the chassis in a way that it can't make a short touching the insulated wheel an then solder it to the locomotive!
Hi from Dublin Ireland 00 bill love the videos you post ❤
Hornby are good locos
Bill, why didn't you use the DCC Concepts spring pickups that fit over the axles? They cause hardly any drag at all.
I recently changed all my coach light pickups to springs as the one`s Bill was thinking to use caused to much drag on a 8 coach train 👍👍
Great “ How to “ Video👍 Do you do Air BnB at the Gnomes legs 😂
As my dad used to say, "You can always drill a hole bigger, but making it smaller is not so easy".
Had FS taken a trip into the catch points?
Like the coal load and the extra pickups tutorials. Very useful.
Have used the DCC pick ups to improve some Lima locos which worked quite well for me although I only needed one side to touch a wheel on each side. The big issue I have is the are just too deep for some Lima locos and can touch on point frogs. Will be trying you guitar string method on the next loco I upgrade. Think you said a while ago that a B string works best?
Top E or B.
good progress .do you need to add 4 pickups to the tender or would 2 do the same job ??
2 works. 4 works better!
