    A great technique. I especially like how you use the plastic wrap and the telescopic magnet to remove the loads. Very clever.

    A more sophisticated solution than some I've seen, especially the use of tyre weights and IPA atomiser. Mod Podge was new to me as well. Excellent video. Many thanks. Would love to see how you have gone about weathering your coal wagons as I need to fettle lots of them.

      Hi Martin, Thank you for the comment. Glad it was of interest. Will do a follow up weathering video on the wagons, they are fairly easy and enjoyable to do. Just may take a little time to film. Cheers Steve

      Once you've perfected the technique, though, you can make an assembly line and do half a dozen at a time. Clever about using a magnet to unload the cars on the way to the mine for reloads.

    Nice that you are using Mod Podge Matte, Steve, which does not leave that slight statin sheen that you can get from using regular PVA.
    Do you use a formula for adding weight to rolling stock? 25gm per 25mm or 1oz per inch (if you are into good old imperial measurement) total weight is a good guide. The use of small flat digital kitchen scales is useful for that purpose. Enjoyable video, Steve. Best, Jason.

    • @tynedock
      @tynedock  2 года назад +1

      Hi Jason, Thanks for the info on weights. I do try and get weight in as low down on the centre of gravity as possible, which can be a limiting factor. I try to get close to a bachmann or RTR equivalent. Have you noticed how light Accurascale wagons are, especially Cemflo's? Need to go and pinch the wife's Kitchen scales...!

    Nice tips there. I used cardboard inserts with real coal dross over Bostik...it was the 70's! Cling film had been invented but the Bostik would've eaten it. Great stuff with the magnets and the car wheel weights. It's been a while since I had an open fire so is it that difficult to get coal now or someone making a few bob? Thank you for posting this video, sir. Much obliged. Keep Safe, now. Cheers!

      Hi, glad it was interest. I do remember Bostik very well that along with UHU would make a right stringy mess. My mother still has a coal fire, doesn't get used any more because of the soot and mess it makes. I smashed up real coal at the time with my dads nylon mallet, he hasn't forgotten as it ruined the ends of the mallet! I can still remember the coal men delivering the sacks of coal, but that was along time ago..! Memories.. All the best, regards Steve

      @@tynedock My family were Plough-men, Horse-men, Carters and Coal Merchants so I had plenty of dross and the luxury of a coal-axe; I can imagine your fathers disdain about the Nylon Mallet!
      The reason was the same when my Grand-Dad got a gas fire in to give my Granny a break from the dust and stoor from the coal fire.
      I miss it though! Such is progress...
      Cheers Steve. Nice method and results with the wagons. All the best to yourself too. Adam.

    Why not stick the weight under the foamboard and add a small flat neo magnet on top of the foamboard (under the coal). That way the weight stays lower and the magnet works with your removal stick? I'd be interested to see how you weather these 16t wagons please. Cheers 🙂

    • @tynedock
      @tynedock  Год назад +2

      Hi Thanks for the comment. Will try the weight under the board a see what happens. I am planning on weathering more of the 16t wagons will add a video when I can. Unfortunately not been well over the last few weeks hence lack of content. Cheers Steve

    • @tynedock
      @tynedock  2 года назад

      Hi Thanks for the comment and interest. I have measured the three I did in the video and they are all 11g each. With the Airfix wagon c27/28g total. Regards Steve

    Quick question I know there is nothing better to use as coal for a coal waggon. But what can you use for Coke as a load does it look like coal?

    • @tynedock
      @tynedock  Год назад

      Interesting question! I have looked at several photos of Coke wagons and it is different to coal. I have had in mind using woodland scenic Cinders Ballast. However Hattons do Coke wagon load material? May give some ago in coke hopper wagons I have v woodland scenics? Wikipedia have image of coke; also check out image in totonsidings.com/upside-hump Regards Steve
