I was actually a General Manager for LJS when we started closing these. I was originally from the Franklin store and promoted into Pittsburgh. I might be able to answer some of your questions! 1: this store along with Robinson, Carrick, West View, Cranberry Township, Shaler, and New Castle all closed under the same owner. The franchisee made a lot of bad financial decision and had to file for bankruptcy. 2: This store along with the rest was closed with no more than a weeks notice to all of the staff. I was one of the few being told ahead of time of the closures. 3: They started closing the lower volume stores in order to take the equipment out and put them in the busier ones. That’s why only some equipment and seating was taken. The rest was put into other stores because the company had no money to buy new equipment. The unneeded equipment, seating, and marketing was left behind in the closed stores or taken to a storage unit in Vandergrift. The storage unit burned down while all of this was happening and all of the equipment was lost in the fire. 4: the company (MSAA Partners) was so broke that the people that gutted these stores out was us. The managers. We gutted the equipment of the very places we were supposed to be employed with no guarantee of being transferred to a new location. 5: the door on the roof is actually an attic. Stores like Shaler had a TON of old marketing up in the attics. I’m talking advertising from the 80’s. It was actually really cool! However, Franklin was not one of them. I’ve been in that attic right before closing and it is unfortunately empty. 6: That store closed its doors officially in 2014, shortly before I left the company. Butler, East Rochester, and Carnegie are the only standing stores left from the company. They were bought back out by corporate and the guy who owned MSAA fled back to California and never paid any of us a dime we were owed. There were a ton of us as employees and well as contractors and landscaping companies who were owed thousands from him and will never see a penny of it. Hopefully that answers some of your questions! It was really cool to see what became of the building since I’ve last been in there. As shocking as it sounds, it still looks just as run down as when I saw it last. 😂
I was a General Manager in full service restaurants. In full service if a location is closed, all signage is immediately removed. It's strange how quick service establishments don't seem to care about that.
That intro! lol "Thank you for eating at "So Long" John Silver's". What are the odds of 4 fast food places closed down in that same area? That's ridiculous!
The long john slivers in quincy Illinois they closed up there and within two months they demolished the building to the bare pavement they didnt waste no time at all.
@@gaylenewood7707 Oh wow! At least they did something instead of letting it decay. Are they going to build something else there or just leave it pavement?
Thank you for another video about Franklin my hometown thank you. Keep making more videos about Franklin thank you thank you thank you thank you. Thank you☺️
Hi Wallie, great video! I really enjoyed your drive thru skit! It was funny with the audience in the background! It sure is sad so many businesses are closed! Everyone take care, and have a great day! 🤗
The sound effects 😂 I love them!! I love the skit! and OMG 3:45, all the closed restaurants!!! I really wonder what the deal is with businesses in the area or if it's just a super big coincidence.
Another great video Wallie, I really like the skit that you did in the beginning, I also like the laugh track that you put into it while you were sitting at the drive-thru, that was funny. Looking forward to your next video, have a great day, and stay awesome
I grew up in the next town over in Oil City. The KFC probably closed roughly 2009, maybe even earlier. But I have a lot of memories at this Long John's though. My friend use to be a manager there for a while and I had a lot of friends from high school work there too. Summer of 2013, we would all hangout at a buddy's place. She would bring home so much extra chicken and hush puppies for us what seemed almost nightly. And on top of that, we would always stop by and see her at work and even order. I have a lot of fond memories on this location and every time I drive by it, it brings back a lot of memories. For me, it's just a part of my life frozen in time as it closed maybe a year or 2 later. I will tell you that shell of the Wendy's building was turned into a million things, most recently a Mexican restaurant. I ate there once in 2018 and it was actually really good. But it closed after only being open for maybe 6 months or so. Once again, it just sits there abandoned until someone else's buys it. That whole strip in Reno/Franklin unfortunately has been losing the light of day for numerous years. The only thing that really keeps that stretch going is the car dealerships and the Giant Eagle. It's just a matter of time before most of that stretch sits vacant.
I have yet to eat at a Long John Silvers. They are not near my house but want to try their hush puppies and fish. I love these little skits where it looks like you become the Wierdo. I would love a sitcom called the Wierdo and you reacting to life's difficulties. Some thing like Pittsburgh Dad. It seems the town of Franklin PA is like a dead mall... one abandoned fast food place after another. Is the town hurting that bad? Love you have Bradley working with you.
I looked up Franklin, PA and there’s sooo many abandoned places. Goldmine for you really. Dairy Queen, long John’s, kfc, and I think either a Wendy’s or Taco Bell. And there was something torn down between long John’s and KFC. I’m from Canada, and would love to know what happened to all these places. Haven’t seen this happen here at all.
Wallie, i dont know if you see this, but you are part of my inspiration for doing the same thing. I dont make videos as often, but when i do i make the best of it. Keep doing what you do.
I’m surprised Long John Silvers Didn’t get rid of the signs.I got confused driving in Franklin PA.They would either remove the sign, paint over it or break it.
There is a McDonalds in the downtown area still open. I guess everyone goes to Meadville to eat........................ no? Maybe Oil City or drive down rt 8 and over to Grove City?
I work at McDonald’s in those little sheds you are seen are the maintenance shed. Sometimes there’s no storage within the building and they have to have outside storage Mcdonalds has those sheds to Turn all of our maintenance sheds that you are single that’s why all that stuff was inside there surprised five years being shut down nobody stole all that stuff
I used to work at this Long John Silver’s....It’s sad why this is no longer in business because it was a well run store for a long time. Frankly, it breaks my heart how depressing this stretch of highway is between Franklin and Oil City. I wish someone would improve this stretch of road, but I know that’s most likely never going to happen due to the lack of growth and industry in this area.
Great Video! Thank You! WallieB26 There Is A Dead Long John Silvers Here In Barstow! Shout Out To Kayla & Bradley! I Don’t Think Your Ever Going To Find Any Food? 👍
Monaca, PA/Center township, Beaver County area is thriving compared to Franklin PA. Feel bad for the people there wanting something to eat besides one place to eat.
I'm starving just watching this. Hanover Park IL long John's just closed today. Saw it in the news. Seems they're not doing good. Maybe this weekend I'll see if Joliet is still open. It's and old school one like that.
Yay a new video the long John silvers looks just like my one that I have here in my town in it still open for business thanks for the new video in I can’t wait to see kfc
Yes, the pirate theme can be seen in the restaurant's architecture and in their menu items. The original "Long John Silver" was a pirate character in the novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.
This place reminds me of my hometown Bay City Tx abondoned places Bay City is so bad that people burned down Del Taco when is was a kid this place reminds me of it very sad
I used to live there back in the 70s I ate at that Long John Silver's many times not much to do there their keg parties hanging out in the park and being in a band called power play that was about it
You definitely need to call the customer service line. ASAP. Don't feel bad they've closed our Long John Silver's here in Alabama to bad thing is they never put closed on the sign and I went up there also fixing to order some food. Also felt like an idiot.😃😃
Our Long John Silvers has an A & W too. I've not been to Long John Silvers in a long while & need to go. I just don't care for their coleslaw but Kentucky Fried Chicken has the best coleslaw (I'm sure spelled wrong).
This is some surreal nostalgia, can’t stop watching these! Keep ‘em coming!
