The old store is what was known as an "Image retrofit" model. It was an original 1970's style store, but remodeled in the early 90's to fit two registers up front, then the first drive-thru window was added sometime in the 90's, as most Wendy's only had one window. Based on the color scheme in the dining room, it was renovated in the late 90's after they removed the salad bar. Based on the ethernet like outlets at the second window, which actually are not "ethernet," rather a six conductor plug for Panasonic registers, this was probably part of Valenti Management restaurants, which were franchised from Wendy's International around 1997. The two outdoor freezer units show the fact Wendy's never freezes their beef. Only those products marked on the wall are frozen. And in the other unit, that was used just for the buns, hence the plastic pieces. The interior freezer door at the second drive thru window was actually just a refrigerator, where the burgers and fresh produce would have been stored. I offer the above because I was a manager for Wendy's for over 20 years with lots of experience in these older type stores. (Also in PA, by the way!) And yes, during my tenure, I even got to meet Dave Thomas- and in fact got to be in a training video with him in the late 90's. He was just as lovable and down to earth as he was in the commercials- for those old enough to remember him!
Andy Leininger Thank you for sharing your story and for the information! This is really cool to know. I know a lot more about Wendy's now than I thought I'd ever know. I wondered why certain things were set up the way they were. I miss the salad bar, btw. Makes sense they would put the frozen food outside and the fresh food inside. I couldn't imagine the animals trying to get inside if they could smell the fresh food. Haha. That's awesome you got to meet Dave. I heard he was a really nice guy. You met the man that started it all. I can't imagine the feeling you had when you got to meet him.
I do remember eating at this Wendy's as a kid. It actually had the big menu board that you'd study in line while filling out what you wanted on the little sheet of paper. The tables had the imprints of newspapers on them. It was indeed remodeled in the mid to late 90s. I also saw they're gutting this place further when I was up that way--probably will have it demolished soon.
They even closed Wendy's Store #1 here in Columbus,Ohio about 10 years ago. Founder, the late Dave Thomas began as a Colonel Sanders (KFC) employee, manager, regional manager... My brothers friend in our neighbor married Dave Thomas' daugher or neice maybe. Anyway, after my brother mentioned to him one day he had a softball team he was putting together, and wanted to know if he would be interested in playing, he said he was unable to, but could ask Dave to sponsor them. My brother said to go for it. Well, sponsor the team Wendy's did. They sent them the most professional uniforms money could buy. It was hilarious actually! This was in the early 1980's in the suburbs, where ' uniforms were usually just jean cut-off shorts and cheap colored T-shirts with iron-on letters like ' STEVIE'S TV'S '. The Wendy's softball team did play well to match their snazzy appearance. They made it to the championship. I can't remember if they won. The following year some of the other teams began wearing real uniforms as well.
would be really well insulated for winter weather. but don't know how hot it would get in there in the summer tho.. if someone could tap into the electrical to them, they could run a generator to power lights, hot plate and maybe a portable Air con unit for in the summer, and a space heater for the winter,
That old Wendy's building there had quite a history. And sure the inside of that old Wendy's looked like an early 90s theme like when it was probably last renovated.
I've eaten in this location a few times and you couldn't be more right. The inside looked like it did 20 years ago. The new location up the street looks great though! Definitely has that feel of 2017.
Yes, but I actually don't like Wendy's new look at all for their stores. I only go to older style ones if I'm in the mood to stop for a snack but otherwise I'm trying to avoid fast food in order to stay healthy. The new style in my opinion looks rather dark and cold and unwelcoming. Worse, those newer style stores are just dark and not very colorful, and I don't find them to be too inviting. Lounge chairs look like a nice rec feature, but they're not worth having if people are going to eat in those areas plus they can be hard to maintain.
I worked in Wexford Pennsylvania from 1998-2000. That older Wendy's has had the same interior since Clinton's 2nd term. I looked at he background and I barely regconise Wexford
We have an abandoned Jack in the Box right on the corner of main street and another busy street. We're talking 6 traffic lanes per street. It's boarded up, just doing nothing. I went there a few times, it was the only Jack that didn't have wifi, and they had a sign you had to leave in 15 minutes. You know it's bad when you can't get business on a busy intersection like that. Only a block away from dozens of houses and apartments
The door with no handle leads into the kitchen from the outside. They do not give it an outdoor handle to keep intruders and outsiders from entering the building. I currently work at Wendy’s so I can relate to a lot of these aesthetics. Great video by the way.
Caleb Douglas that wendys is built totally DIFFERENT than thw one i work at but an abandoned bulding is just that an abandoned building that Wendys exist they just got a DIFFERENT building
thank you for showing this. I literally pass this place 2 or 3 times per week and have memories of eating there. this is the first time I have seen it in detail since it closed and have always wondered what it looked like inside since it closed. been wanting to explore this place myself, but never really got around to it.
That was incredible. You did a great job taking your time and getting as best of a view as you could of everything inside. It would have been cool as hell to be able to get inside and get that power on, but it was real cool to get inside those freezers. Awesome, man. I love how much time you take to get a good view of everything.
EndlessReprieve Thank you! I enjoy exploring everything and trying to capture everything there is to see. I'm still shocked I was able to go into the freezers. Believe me, I wish I could have gotten inside. That would have been awesome.
I remember that style Wendy's back in the 80's-90's Ours had the bar where you could get taco's and spaghetti. I think it was called the superbar. Thanks for the memories.
All walk in freezers are supposed to be equiped to be unlocked from the inside. For abandoned walk-in's door handles and locks should be disabled or completely removed to prevent anyone from locking themselves inside. Unfortunately people have died from getting trapped. Hence the regulation to remove the locks/handles when abandoned
I'm humbled to be where I am now. I never thought I would get as far as i have and see and explore so many places. Its been a real privilege and honor to bring you all all these videos.
The freezer with nothing written inside it is usually the one for beef. They will take the locks off the freezers when they shutter a location as the locks can be reused. Also, that keypad on the one door looks to be the one the managers use to go in and out by when they open up each day.
Another excellent video Wallie! I'm kinda surprised you didn't find anyone living in those freezers. Hilarious skit going through the drive thru. Keep up the good work and the subscribers and views will come!
Thanks! I really appreciate the support! The whole drive thru skit was a last minute idea. I didn't think it would be as funny as it ended up being. My fiancee was cracking up. lol
Of course no one would be living in the freezers. That is NORTH Allegheny school district and Mccandless township. And they would not tolerate that! This is Wexford Pennsylvania not Detroit Michigan!
Amanda M Well thanks! I really enjoy doing them. Thanks for subscribing. If you know of any places you'd like me to check out, let me know! I live in Bellevue if you're familiar with where that's at. ☺
If that building were in a lower or middle class area of Va.---it would be a car title loan place or a check cashing place now. They seem to love closed down fast foods, banks, gas stations, and 7-11 stores around here where I live.
I noticed that most McDonalds in my area started modernizing and the one in my hometown is the only one around me left that still has the 70s and 80s feel to it
Just joined your channel! Seen a few of your videos lately and really like them. Then today you have an Epica shirt on and I thought - now I have to join his channel! LOL Love them!
I can't understand why big corporations just leave their property abandoned. In my town we have an old kmart, a sears, a publix, and another supermarket all abandoned for years. Big buildings with a lot of land around. Why don't they sell their properties ??
Nice video. I'm amazed the walk in freezers outside the building were accessible, and that it had those markings on the wall(chicken sandwich, grilled chicken, chili, etc). Now have subscribed to your channel, as well. Good Ace's Adventures mentioned your channel on that Ames walk through video both you guys did, or else I probably wouldn't have found your channel as quickly.
Another great video and it's fun to discover things like open freezer trailers. Funny how they scrawled what food was stored in what area... would think they would have printed signs instead. The new Wendys design looks good but I am old school too and miss the old logo. Glad that kept the red haired girl, Daves daughter, as its trademark. In my area we used to have Roy Rogers and when they went other they were converted to Wendys who resigned the locations somewhat. Wonder if they changed to this new glassy techno style.
here in the york pa area, the wendys we have are a mix of old and new. the outside got a facelift, while the inside is still oldskool yet. So if you like to see how that looks come to york pa and have a look. while here you can check out the abandoned kmart along i83, or even an abandoned haunted paper mill. On king mills road. That building though half has been torn down. Still have a lot to look at. And we will soon have an abandon hospital once the new one is built.
TBH Wallie, I’ve NEVER seen a fancy nice looking Wendy’s like that ever. We live on the good side of the river, as my stepdad says we live on the bad side (not because of crime or anything) He grew up in Reserve so what’s that tell ya? In my area, I still have the old fashioned 90’s looking Wendy’s. Still open and does a hell of a lot better that McDonalds lol. Great video!
I used to live in wexford and I always saw that Wendy's coming home from taekwondo when I was on a field trip in preschool my bus passed the Wendy's and it was still open with people working there. Really isn't much about the video but I thought it was cool.
There's a lot of places like that in columbus ohio also. There is an old sisters chicken and biscuits that has been sitting for years. Someone turned it into a floral shop at one time, but it has sense been abandoned for a number of years. I'd like to see inside that place.
really cool video!!! it would've been awesome to see the inside like the kitchen area but still a good video though. I subscribed and gave you a thumbs up. I really love abandoned videos and also film abandoned places in PA, but I'm on the east side.
Thank you for the support! I subscribed to your channel as well. I wish I could have gotten inside but unfortunately we're not always lucky enough. Didn't help it was getting dark so it made it a little more difficult to see inside.
I work at Wendy’s, so I automatically clicked this when it showed up in my recommendations! I miss the ole style Wendy’s. The new ones are so plain and dystopian! They leave little to the imagination.
that particular store was probably opened in 1978. or so. Most Image stores had the walk-ins by the drive-thru window, this store looks similar in layout to the one in Chula Vista, California
This is the new Wendy's,the late Dave Thomas said in 1996,he did not want any of his Wendy's looking like the first ones open going into 2000, the closed Wendy's was a 1987-1996 refesh,or open store model( image store). The first models had round globes lighting around the building.and paperback counter tops on front ordering counters store models 1969-1985 estimate.
Please film some abandonded places in North (western) New Jersey. The Ledgewood Mall is perfect. There used to be a Sterns/Macys, Ames/Jamesway, Channel/Sports Authority, Ruby Tuesday, JoAnn Fabrics, Bath and Body Works, Pizza Hut. Now, just a Walmart, Red Lobster and a Barnes and noble.
Ones in Toledo vary in design. Still old style ones around but ones remodeled with newer theme , but remodeled to old style buildings. Very nice seeing a new free standing design.
he did out in robinson township next door to the old school wendys he also did the one in Duquesne Pa and he did one in Carrick pa he also did one in Kittaning pa and one in Franklin Pa he did 4 so far.
I worked at 4 different fast food places when I was growing up and there was no such thing as a locked freezer lol.. The fact that's in your title made me laugh. I thought to myself "well no shit they aren't locked"
Quit going to Wendy's years ago, went to drive thru and the employee was smoking, that was bad enough but when we went to eat our burgers one did not have any meat. That was in Fresno, CA. One day I walked over to the Wendy's in Woodland CA and there were about 20 plus tables and everyone was covered with trash or the ones with no trash had food all over the table, there were several employees just standing around jabber jawing. I know I wasn't the only one who didn't like walking into a dirty fly infested restaurant.... About two month later they were shit down.
Wendys is actually a good company. The building it looks like was obsolete. Access to the walk in fridge n freezer from the outside woulda been annoying for me if I worked there. All the Wendy’s here in Cali they just renovate. I’m with you bro, I like the look of the old style Wendy’s myself. I love Wendy’s food...my favorite fast food burger joint hands down. I actually make it a habit to stop at the old school looking Wendy’s still around for a frosty if/when I get a chance 👌🏽😬😎
jhhone Ditto! But then again this is a relatively nice and rich people area north of Pittsburgh where there is hardly any crime other than traffic violations. Plus, this sits on BUSY U.S. 19. Police patrol the highway regularly. I was shocked I didn't interact with one nor see when I was filming. The parking lot is chained off from the road unless you access it from the rear entrance from a side street.
I used to work in that Wendy's about 6 or 7 years ago. Lots of... Wouldn't say good memories lol but made some good friends, customers were ass holes 90% of the time because "rich area" but did have some decent ones that were nice to talk with. Spent a lot of time in that drive through lol. Actually have a video on my channel of a kid doing the cube of power challenge, he ate 9 patties on one sandwich in under 2 minutes
That’s odd, I’ve never seen a walk-in cooler/freezer outside a restaurant before, and I’ve worked at three fast food places (Wendy’s, Culver’s, Portillo’s).
Oh Wow Great to See Years of Abandoned Wendy's with Unlocked Freezers How to Get it Their Dude I Never Cloud see it That's Silly. Well it's Been About 6 Years of Classic Wallie's Video Hope You love it Joyed Popular Video.
gotta try exploring The Clam Dig in Gallup New Mexico, that place is awesome, so much stuff left, food still in the fridges there, power is still on, been closed down a long time

Didn't help it was getting dark so it made it a little more difficult to see inside.
thanks for your support back!!! your video was fine, I was able to make out everything on the inside. looking fwd to more of your videos
You guys should do a video collaboration! 😄😄
Some will get this and some will not......... "WHERRRESSSS THE BEEEF"
I work at Wendy’s, so I automatically clicked this when it showed up in my recommendations! I miss the ole style Wendy’s. The new ones are so plain and dystopian! They leave little to the imagination.
I worked at this Wendy's from 2005-2010. Wew it brought back some fun memories. If anybody has questions, i could easily answer them.
Whats it feel like seein this wendys left like this?
that particular store was probably opened in 1978.
The first models had round globes lighting around the building.and paperback counter tops on front ordering counters store models 1969-1985 estimate.
when the channel reaches 100 subscribers! lol great work building your channel
did they put anything in that old Wendy's location or is it still abandoned? love your videos bro!!!
Really good job on this. I like your channel..
Great job and going the extra mile exploring and trying your best to get the best vid views from glare 👍 I really like your videos
Ones in Toledo vary in design. Still old style ones around but ones remodeled with newer theme , but remodeled to old style buildings. Very nice seeing a new free standing design.
Have you ever done an abandoned Long John Silvers??
he did out in robinson township next door to the old school wendys he also did the one in Duquesne Pa and he did one in Carrick pa he also did one in Kittaning pa and one in Franklin Pa he did 4 so far.
New Sub here! Thanks for the video man! ❤
It's irresponsible for a company to add blight to a community by abandoning a store only to open a new store a few blocks away.
the old Image stores, been used from 1978 to late 80's
Still have some here in my city with the old look, they have also been giving some of them a facelift to, to the newer logo and buildings
When did this open?
I'm not sure when it opened. Had been there for many years though. It was demolished after the new one opened right up the street.
Did yo u get your baconator
I worked at 4 different fast food places when I was growing up and there was no such thing as a locked freezer lol.. The fact that's in your title made me laugh. I thought to myself "well no shit they aren't locked"
What street was this on?
Hey WallieB26 I still have an old style Wendy’s restaurant still open near me, I’m surprised they haven’t closed that place yet.
Such a waste of energy if the power is still going on. Pretty cool though that people shoot videos of abandoned places.
There is a abandoned shoneys in Cookeville tn and a abandoned marathon gas station in Crossville tn
Flemington NJ has an active Wendy’s that’s still the same building as this even though all the other chains have rebuilt or remodeled
I'd rather have the old Wendy's and half the price🎉
Nature always wins! I'm surprised that scrappers haven't hit the freezers!
jhhone Ditto!
I love Wendy's food. Love the frosty s
This Wendy's serves weeds for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.LOL!!!😂😂😂😂
I used to work in that Wendy's about 6 or 7 years ago. Lots of... Wouldn't say good memories lol but made some good friends, customers were ass holes 90% of the time because "rich area" but did have some decent ones that were nice to talk with. Spent a lot of time in that drive through lol. Actually have a video on my channel of a kid doing the cube of power challenge, he ate 9 patties on one sandwich in under 2 minutes
Do you remember Denise? She’s my grandma and also worked there.
We have a Wendy’s that looks similar to that one near me, still open a running good.
I was born and raised in pittsburgh, but I have always called it Soda😂😂😂
UPDATE:It was demolished along with the Burger King in Wexofrd. The Wendy’s is now a getgo gas station
Wow I can’t believe the dressers weren’t attached to the store lol the workers had a cold trip to the freezer just getting there
Who else worked there? I was a manager here years ago. Good times. Sad to see it like this.
That’s odd, I’ve never seen a walk-in cooler/freezer outside a restaurant before, and I’ve worked at three fast food places (Wendy’s, Culver’s, Portillo’s).
Awesome Video, i just subscribed!
What if you close the freezer door and it wont reopen and your phone is in the car?
Oh Wow Great to See Years of Abandoned Wendy's with Unlocked Freezers How to Get it Their Dude I Never Cloud see it That's Silly. Well it's Been About 6 Years of Classic Wallie's Video Hope You love it Joyed Popular Video.
In Gering,Nebraska the Wendy's restaurant is now closing since December 31st, 2016.
7:31 lonely seat
gotta try exploring The Clam Dig in Gallup New Mexico, that place is awesome, so much stuff left, food still in the fridges there, power is still on, been closed down a long time
They closed this one down Because it can't accept the changes They want to do so shut it down and move on.
It's hard to find an abandoned fast food building unlocked.
