Dan is spot on - Old Forester 100 is easily better than 86 (at least for my taste) and is the best value in bourbon alongside WT101. Cheers gents!
All of the 1910 love here is sooo satisfying. A nearly perfect bourbon. I like it much better than the 1920.
About 6 months into my bourbon journey and am still blown away by 1910. Thanks for the validation
I am glad others share my love for 1910 - it usually takes a backseat to 1920 - High proof doesn't always equate to superior
Amen!
I prefer it over Woodford Double Oak
I am a little confused. You say 1910 takes a backseat to 1920 but it sounds like you prefer the 1910.
He referring to other typical reviewers with regards to that portion of the comment.
1910 is probably my fav sipping bourbon. Preach!
To me old forester is one of my most perfect bourbons. It hits on everything I'm looking for. The 1920 and 1910 are my favorites. I've never been able to find the higher end bottles
As someone whose budget doesn't allow for much collecting at all or for purchasing high-end bottles, I absolutely LOVE 1920.
Old Forester is my favorite line. Taste, price, and availability. No second market jacked up price gouging.
Beginning of 2021 I went on a STRICTLY Bourbon Whiskey consuming binge and it started with me going out for 1920 and it being sold out and so I paid the liquor store owner for my EC small batch and an Old Scout store pick and wwiith my payment left the money for that 1920 so that when they restocked they can reach me. All because of you guys. I couldn't wait for their restock and found it elsewhere and STILL kept my pre-order in place because it was everything you guys made it to be. I still have that bottle unopened and now also own a new label one.
Great video. Love these types of videos you guys do.
My Favorite OF is 1915. 1 shot of 1910 and 1 shot of 1920 mixed...
i needed this list. there's alot of bottles out there and in europe i can only snatch old forester very rarely.
I'm a few months in to this bourbon odyssey, and I can honestly say Old Forester's product line is a flavor bomb, and probably my favorite. Beyond that... you guys are hammered in this video. It's so obvious!.
I gave the rest of a bottle of new label 1920 to a friend after we sampled it. I was not impressed, but he said he would drink it. Give me 1910 all day.
You guys are completely right on 1910. IMO it is way better than 1920 and is THE bourbon of the Whiskey Row line.
Good video. I have only seen 86, 1910, and 1920 on the shelf locally and the 1910 and 1920 are awesome and I go back and forth on which one I like the best and for $20 a bottle the 86 is a great daily drinker if I drank every day.
I'm with shawn..old forester 86 is the bomb and a bomb price ..I love it
Try Larceny 92 proof.
I just found an old label 1920. I’ve only had new label so I’m excited to try the old label!
hanging out with a friend doing something together, that's the best!
Wow! I actually love love love the BIB! I am also a younger bourbon fan (6-8yrs) so maybe that's why?
Need more of these videos in my life!!!
Great Video. Also just watched back the Buffalo Trace list video and Dans internal struggle with this and Sean’s ability to push buttons is so apparent. Haha
Thank you! 1920 always gets the high praise because it’s “the cool” thing to like higher proofs but if you go in blind, 1910 wins every time.
Been waiting for this one. Thanks!
On my next visit to the US, OF 100 is def on my list along with 1910 now. OF 100 was my very first real bourbon. I too love the old label 1920 and was lucky enough to snag a bottle in person in Calgary, Alberta. Now when you order online they only ship new label and I mass ordered 5 of them! (no apologies for incorrectly labeling them old label).
There's plenty of videos of Dan choosing 86 over 100
Didn't they prefer 86 when they tried them blind?
OF 86 has been the biggest disappointment for me. I know it’s just a $20 bottle, but I thought it was going to be my everyday drinker from how everyone talks about it. Didn’t like it
@@ravensoath I'm a huge fan of the 100 and never get the 86 as for a few $'s more, well i get 100 proof. I do want to try the 86 though. Hope my experience is better!1
1910 is probably my best value bourbon *overall*, not just of the OF brand.
Nice color Sean!
excited ab this one
Awesome, thanks for this.
Your description of the birthday bourbon is exactly what I think about the 1897; the nose is fantastic, but I don’t care for it on the palate as much as other bourbons.
Agreed but it’s so weird I have two bottles and consistently one scores way higher in blinds and blows the other bottle away they were bought at two different places and man do I like this one btl I have of it !
Finally! Good stuff BJ’s
Haha you guys are absolute lunatics. When you gave 86 and 100 both an A I was expecting A or S for every last bottle.
Just got the 1920 on sale for 50 no tax can't wait to try it. For some reason jack daniels single barrel barrel proof is hard to find in my area and it's one of my go to whiskeys so trying to find other high proof whiskeys that go down smooth like jdsbbp
Sean nailed the OFBB. I had a sample of the 2021 and I loved the nose and the taste was good, not great which was a disappointment.
Good video, wish it included the Single Barrel Barrel Proof pick's somewhere on the list. Obviously they have variability, but Id be curious to see where they fit in your mind for value given they can be $80-90
For real
Agree completely. Or at least the sib bs rye since they're not store picks. That being said, the most delicious bottle I own currently (to my tastes) is an old Forester single barrel barrel strength. I'll be really sad when it's gone.
Was just going to say that. They're the best IMHO (only having had 21' batch BB)
Agreed - I've only found a bottle of it once, at Total Wine, but it was spectacular - and lasted longer because I personally had to add about a teaspoon of water to every ounce.
I really enjoy Old Forester across the brand lineup, but aside from 1910, they're basically all the same to me just at different proofs which only slightly alters the core profile. I think the best things I've ever had from them were a 90 proof SiB and a barrel-proof SiB. After trying bday bourbon last week for the first time, all I could think was how glad I am for never chasing it. It was just a very good well-rounded bourbon that I would be upset paying $130+ for when they have sooo many solid options for way less $. So to that point, I'm glad to see you putting the 86 and 100 at A level, because they just are.
86 and the 100 are vastly different one is runt banana and the 100 is sweet oak
Question have you guys tried old Forester single barrel at barrel strength 2022 yet? If so where would y’all put it on your list S,A,B,C or D?
Stateman and 86 my favorites
Love Old Forester
Never had the President's Choice or Birthday unfortunately 😕
Surprised that you picked the 86 over the 100 but ok.
Seems like a pretty fair evaluation. Great video topic 👏
Sipping 1910 while watching, love it.
Hard to beat OF 100 if you just want to drink and not think. 1920 is the other one on my restock list, but have yet to try the new label.
Maybe it's just me, but I really enjoy the BiB I have. Agree with the rest. Just got a 2022 Birthday Bourbon. Trying to decide if I should crack or not.
Maybe you should revisit the 1920 comparison ( new vs old ) with a different new bottle , just to be sure .🥃
The 100 proof rye slaps so hard though.
Pretty sure that all of the Old Forester bottles have the same mash bill
Spot on. $23 for 100 proof rye and it’s money
Read my mind geez. I just had to order the whiskey row series online because they disappeared in VA. Manage to get an old label 1920.
Gentlemen i think our pallets are quiet different. 1920 and 1897 are my top 2, but I think I should revisit it to be sure. I obviously haven't had birthday, president, or 117. I do favor sweeter stuff
Ha... 5:08 is how I imagine most conversations between these two go with Sean trying to talk sense into Dan.
1897 BIB is my favorite (Old Label). I like it more than the 1920 but that's my opinion
where does the rye fit in on the list?
i know not bourbon, but still.
and if you could drink only 1 in a given night....which would you pour 86/100/rye....would it change if was mixed (think w/coke/old fashion/sour - etc)....different choice for different mix?
Boys, I think you just got the 1920 one tier down from where it ought to be. Despite your previous video about new label vs old label, there is absolute ZERO difference in the liquid. It's a label change ONLY. That's a fact, not just my opinion. But regardless, you've got the 1910 in the right spot, and that's my favorite Old Forester product.
We were a little disappointed in the single barrel, barrel proof rye! It was really hot ,we will go back to it in a month or two and see where we are!
My daughter is a huge Forrester rye 100 proof fan! We only got 3 of the barrel proof rye and took one home for her!
Where would you place Old Forester Rye on this grading scale?
I’ve yet to have 1910. Might pick up a bottle this week.
Where I live I can get handles of Old Forester 100 for $37... It just wins.
When Sean said 100 was WORSE than 86 I wanted to disavow my name...and I like my name...cause it's SEAN! In AZ 86 is $18.49. 100 is $19.49...like c'mon! Not on the list was Old Forester 100 proof Rye. i had heard rumors that they stopped making this and I didn't believe it...until the $20 1ltr Old Forester rye bottles just disappeared from places around A. I hope I am wrong and we are not left with only the single barrel rye annual release and hat's it. Because that was such a great rye at an amazing price. I am glad you ranked the Dated ones, because it's hard to pull the trigger on a $70 1920 without really knowing if it's better than that $20 100 proof...
Statesman has become a favorite....with 86 and the Rye.
What are your thoughts on the OF Single Barrell, Barrell Proof?
something is off with my newest bottle of signature 100, wasn't planning on ever buying again.
I enjoyed my first bottle though, has anyone had issues bottle to bottle?
Off topic: How do you like the Tarr? I see it all over here in KY. I haven’t tried it yet.
Haven’t had the new label 1920. Bummed if it’s not gonna be as good.
Junkies time!
Over on the right at 10:20 is a blind I would like to see (if my eyes don't deceive): OF 100, Cooper's Craft 100, and ET BIB. Also, I wish you could try some OF Signature. I believe the official position is that OF 100 is just Signature with a new label, but not to my taste buds. To me, Signature is to OF 100 as the old EC SB 12-year is to the current EC SB. I prefer Signature (I only have 1 bottle left) to 1910.
I had a bottle of Birthday from 2009. Same exact phenomenon. Smelled delicious but lacked something when drinking it. Still a phenomenal bourbon! I suppose the difference for me was I bought it off the shelf for $40!
Dans face when Sean says OF100 is a C, gets me every time. Yes I’ve watched a few times 😂
Have them all. 1920 is a bit too hot for me. Love love love 1910. Use 86 and 100 for OF and ginger ale.
I can see that about the 1920 but compared to other bourbons with that high a proof it does not have a lot of burn IMO.
What about the 150th anniversary and the SiBs?
Have y’all tried the OF 150th anniversary. I think it’s S tier. Curious where y’all would put it
Easily S tier without factoring in th hyper-limited nature of a one-off LE.
I wish I understood the love for Old Forester. I have been sampling for the last three years, and would not put anything I have had over a B. Also the flip-flopping of 1910 and 20 by various reviewers is curious. Blinds may actually hurt though, as when my wife and I did one last week, we got to where we could neither smell nor taste 1910 and 20 won easily.
What about the Rye and single barrel rye?
My local Woodman's sells the OF 86 fo $30.99 for a 1.75L. So as far as I'm concerned, it's the greatest whiskey ever made.
It's funny, I keep avoiding the 86 as the 100 is always available and I like higher proof whiskeys, but I need to give this a go.
Whiskey review's 101
Famous words every whiskey reviewer say more than three times in one video especially explaining the nose or palate [Little, Little bit, and Typical.] This review is delivered entirely different which is authentic and creative. It's not a little astringent it is simply astringent.
No rye 100 proof or the single barrel barrel proof rye? Or single barrels as a product?
I was gonna write this same thing, they did ryes with the Buffalo Trace video. OF rye is easily my favorite go to rye and the SiBBP rye is even better.
Old forester 86 is 54 dollars where I’m at with 100 being 18 what am I missing?
Where does the standard rye fit in? Or did y’all go just bourbon intentionally?
Hey not to sound like the newest fan boy of New Riff, but could you do a tier list of their products???
Once you have a few of these Tier lists, do a Tier List of the S and A ranked whiskeys.
Love that idea
1910 and 1920 are amazing
What about Old Forester Rye?
What if you had to put a bottle (or two) in each tier?
Bros…. 1920… ?? Lol
For me….
Pres, 1920/1910
Bday,86,100
States, 1897
1870
Never had 1917 series
Would love your guys opinion on Old Elk small batch sour mash reserve. I think it’s EPIC
I think they both fell and hit their head on this one.
1897 is my favorite, but I haven’t had the new bottling
I can only seem to find 80 proof in Australia and not 86. How do these two compare ?
I don't think they make an 80 proof for American markets, never heard of it at least
Old forester made with gmo corn
I mean what does that matter?
How did you put 1897 at C but in the whiskey row video a few weeks ago it was ranked number 1 by Dan and it beat 1920 for both of them. I am confused 🤔
That was old label 1897
What about the Ryes?
Where are you guys in MI? I just moved to the Pentwater area from Chicago & looking to connect w/ bourbon drinkers in the area.
We're around the Midland area
Oddly with no recap graphic, you have to go back to 9:15 mark to see the final tier list. Just fyi. Otherwise, great video
So what’s old label 1920 then? Like an A?
To me it’s old forester 100 the flavor and aroma vs 22$ here in nc abc stores phenomenal
Then it’s 1910 and 1920 one has aroma and proof the other has smooth after taste and good taste through out
Then bottle in bond
Everything else from them is good but not great or worth the price when their is better quality from the line up🎉
What about the Rye 100 proof?
OF Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye is not only the best OF I've ever tasted, it's maybe the second best WHISKEY I've EVER tasted
Can you guys do a widow Jane review please? Thanks
What I learned from this very informative video:
"Texas Sean is best Sean"
Man old forester 86 burns me up drinks hot to me
“86 is a B”
“…………..whaaaaaaaat?!?!?!” 😂
What about the rye?
do you just start over and refilm when you drop a bottle/glass? I don't believe you never drop it from all the flips 😃
Never, if Dan breaks something believe me I'll be keeping that in the final edit
Is the TARR any good?
I like it a lot at the 60 price tag. Haven't had the older one. It's a boureye, if you're into boureye you'll probably enjoy it.
1920 is WAY better than 1910. 1910 is C. 1920 is A.
100p is S. Just picked one up for $22. Can’t beat it for the price/availability/taste.
What about the 100 Proof?
Wheres the 100 proof rye at?
