What Is The Best Wild Turkey Bourbon You Can Buy?

- we had fun when we ranked the Buffalo Trace products blind, so we decided to go ahead and do the same with Wild Turkey. We left out a few bottles and the ryes because we already had 11 and didn't want to rank 20 things.
#2 is mislabeled, it is Wild Turkey 12 year

WT 12 year is number two. Its just mislabeled at the beginning as WT101.
Somebody needs to get these guys a new Russell's Single Barrell bottle. Apparently theirs was filled with toilet water by mistake.
This is like the 50th wild turkey video they've done. All these bourbon reviewers are running out of stuff to review and repeating the same stuff. The day of the reviewer is hopefully coming to an end
Take your word for it fella.
Agreed. Picked one up this weekend (store pick) and it's phenominal. I can't find 13 by me.
My favorite distillery, everyone loves trace but most of these bottles widely available, reasonably priced and excellent tasting.
I can't justify a favorite distillery. It's really who owns a pricepoint.
Im 3 seconds in and i already know this will be irrationally upsetting
Edit: i was right
So did anyone else see the typo on glass #2? At 2:49 it says #2: WT101, but at 12:28 it says #2: Wild Turkey 12 Year. Maybe stick to Dan's suggestion of ABC instead of 123 😜😜
You might have to delete the channel after putting Longbranch above the 101 and Rare Breed haha Cheers lads!
Yeah, I can understand Rare Breed being lower when it's that late in a tasting... but Longbranch... I just can't wrap my head around that. It finished dead last in my group's turkey tasting last year (granted we only up against WTRB, RR10 and RRSB).
Lol agreed long branch is god awful compared to those two you mentioned
I lost it when they started talking about how good longbranch was!😂😂
Rare breed rye still GOATed… either way… if you can’t find what you’re looking for, rare breed will never do you wrong
I like Longbranch. It's for sale in some total wines for around $30.
Love this system to rank the bottles. Very entertaining!
Love it!!! WT 12 is my fav 🦃 pour
You had 2 as WT 101 on the first way through and I was very confused
Great video! Love this content and seeing how they all rank against each other.
Nothing keeps you more honest than a blind tasting. Hope we can see more of these!
I enjoy the low-proof Wild Turkey. Perfect summer bonfire sipper.
Great video! And glad to hear the background music is back, holds a lot of nostalgia
Great Review Thanks for the turkey day🥃🦃🦃
Funny how first time through #2 and #9 were both WT101, but in the playoffs #2 became WT 12yr. #ChemistEditing
I was confused by that too.
Came here to say this but you already did 👏
Same
It's almost like they were drinking.
It’s not a conspiracy nor a mistake and they weren’t drunk, it’s because the 12 year old is usually called WT 101 12 years - because it’s basically the 101 with a few extra years. Someone forgot the “12”, no biggie.
I was pretty sure #2 is the 12 year old because of the scores, otherwise I would have stopped the video right there. Blinds are tough, you might choose the Longbranch over the Rare Breed (?), but 85 for the regular 101 .. oh boy.
Great video yall, I'm a WT and russels fan all the way but my single barrel russels rock
"It feels like thats the Forgiven." You sir were absolutely correct! 😁
I actually like Longbranch. I do wish it was like 10 higher proof. It's a solid bottle for $40 that is available basically everywhere which is great combination when someone asks what they can get me for x-mas or birthday and I know they don't have much whiskey knowledge.
I truly appreciate the Bourbon 'nerdiness' from yall.
Alright, alright, alright! I too was surprised at how good the Longbranch is, especially considering the low proof point and cost. I'll never get my hands on a sip or bottle of the high end WT products cuz I just can't justify multiple bills for a WT product, so the Longbranch is a goto for me.
I keep only a few bottles around all the time. What I've found is I can keep Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey 101, Jack Daniel's, Maker's Mark, and Knob Creek. Those will pretty much cover anyone. I do like to keep Angel's Envy just for the people who never tried a finished Bourbon. It's a great product to start with. I do love the Smoke Wagon as well but it's not always around(cause I drink it). I also love to keep a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label. I'm shocked by how many people who have never tried Scotch. It seems like it's better to start with Chivas Regal or Glen Livet with the Scotch. Those 2 have almost no smoke whatsoever. They are going to get the smoke with Johnny Walker Black Label (one of my friends told me it was like drinking the contents of an ash tray😂). You don't need high dollar bottles or special releases to share a great bottle with friends. Especially if they're new to whiskey. It's almost better to share and enjoy something they can pick up anytime they want. I do love to break out a rare or expensive bottle for occasions. But I've always thought that if you need that to enjoy a drink with friends, you're kinda missing the point. I've tried everything. I've lived in Kentucky my whole life and been a whiskey drinker for almost that entire time. I can honestly say that I'm not the least bit offended when someone pulls out $15 bottle of 4 year old Jim Beam or something similar to share a drink.
This was a great video guys. Missing Pour Guesses today tho...
Just bought masters keep revival. Fantastic.
This is exactly what I expected. Just an incomprehensible ranking. I'm here for it
I had the 81, for the first time, at a party. It was very good, I was pleasantly surprised.
It would be interesting if you went back a little while later and went backwards through the line to see if anything tasted different with so many samples. I just wonder how much was blown out after the first 4. Also I think we missed a great title here "2 Turkeys with Turkeys" 🤣😛
(Edit issue. I was confused at first because you had WT 101 on here twice. I laughed when you gave #2 such high marks. Now seeing it's WT12 it makes more sense)
Fun one guys. Thanks.
#2 was mislabeled as WT 101 on initial taste.
Yea that threw me off a lot XD
Yep... that threw me off when they were heaping praise on it... then when they got to the WT101 later, I rewound to see if I misread the screen, but I know what had happened by the time they fixed it for the top 4. WT12 is soooooo great.
Or the other way around
Love me some Turkey! Great video and love the result. I was rooting for WT12 yr and was not disappointed. Have you guys ever had WT13yr? It's another Japanese exclusive and weirdly doesn't compare to the WT12. Part of it is that it's 91 proof, but it just isn't as rich as the WT12. Weirdly both of these are relatively available in Japan for about $50 (though that fluctuates based on the strength of the USD). Would love to try the WT13 with the RR13, but haven't got a bottle to compare.
Them not knowing what any of these are is actually hilarious
One of the Seven Mysteries of the Earth is why doesn't Wild Turkey distribute the 12 year stateside?
Because campari
The theory i've heard bandied about and that i kinda buy is that they keep hooking up the asian market with these exports as a thank you for basically keeping them alive in the 80s before bourbon bounced-back stateside. That being said, i'd fucking kill to have turkey 12 available stateside from time to time, not to mention non-chill-filtered rare breed.
Fun list. 101 finishing so low is no surprise to me.. all I ever get is cinnamon and hay/grass
Great video guy's, would like to blind that top 3 sometime!
This was a really good video!
Oh wow, some big upsets and surprises in here. Very surprised with the rare breed. Too bad it was a December 2017 batch and not the Feb 2022 LL/KB you guys loved.
The opened bottle had been hanging around for quite a while, as well...
Wow 😂 did not expect that outcome.
A lot of people… including you all… dissed Single Rick because of the price. But I bought it and backed it up. It was my favorite Turkey release of last year and I LOVED the WT101/12 and the RR13 from last year.
Last year was year of the Turkey. The WTMK was one of the better WTMK’s and is not in the Top 3.
I would be HAMMERED tasting 11 different whiskeys ☺
Love you guys, thank goodness you're funny!
I love these videos.
1st round of #2 said "WT 101"; 2nd round said "WT 12 Year".
Numbers and letter are hard for me.
I saw that. I was really confused why they were ranking 101 so high
@@BourbonJunkies I just thought it was awesome that WT101 scored so high, then I saw WT101 later down the lineup ...
My fav part was when Sean realized how high you guys ranked Longbranch 😂. Now I need to try it.
No surprise that Kentucky Spirit Sib beat Russell’s Reserve Sib…on average I like them better too.
I'll admit, this video ruffled some feathers for me. Pun intended. Seeing RR Single Barrel come in last was blasphemous. One of my favorites along with their 10 year. Great fruity character on all of the single barrels I've had. Also I wasn't a big fan of Longbranch all the times I've tried it, so seeing it come ahead of classics like 101 and Rare Breed as well? That hurts too. But that's what blind tastings are for I guess lol.
I keep a bottle of both Rare Breed and RR SB on hand pretty regularly at home. Some of my favorites. I usually have 101 as well but it's usually my go-to choice for old fashions, not for sipping neat.
Would have loved to see where RR13 would have ended up in this line up! Fun review! Thanks y’all
first
Been wanting a WT video like this for awhile, thanks guys
I Never understood the hate for longbranch. It's a great summertime bourbon
Laughed at the 'Penicillin" note for way too long lmao
I 💯 love turkey 101 probably my go to bourbon more than anything.
When you take a corked Whiskey Bottle to higher elevation should you pop the top to relieve the pressure. If you think about it once you go higher in elevation it's the same thing as putting the contents Under Pressure now the alcohol vapor in between the whiskey and the cork will be pressing harder on the cork unless that pressure is relieved?
Since I’ll never find one, I make my own Forgiven with 60/40 of Rare breed Bourbon/Rye. Let it sit a month or so and its phenomenal!
Awesome channel guys! Although I often wonder what you ate as kids because your palate are messed up haha.
I miss so many things about Japan, but walking around the country with that WT12 in my backpack is what miss the most 💔
Great video fellas!
Indeed. In addition, the amount of dusties available at mostly pre-bourbon boom prices is certainly a bonus. Kanpai, brother.
Y'all need a control whiskey at the beginning lol. Something that you know what it is that's middle of the road so you can calibrate your scale before the blind lol. Like you could have used Russell's 10 as your control bourbon.
hello dan and sean, hope yall are doing well
Maybe do blinds based on where they are made, such as near Lubeyville, Wild Turkeys and Four Roses in Lawrenceburg, and Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam in Frankfort, along with other states like Still Austin in TX, if most big box stores sell it in your area.
I was surprised Kentucky Spirit and Longbranch finished that high. 🥃
I wonder what you guys think about the WT 101 8 year. Maybe compare the normal 101 vs the 8 year vs the 12 year?
Love these lineup reviews.
Best content on the channel for sure.
On first pass I think number 2 was labeled WT101
Great line up. Awesome content. New favorite line: "dat, too expensive, burp-a-derp-a-derp".
Sean: #6 Ohh Noooo. LOL I knew he would react to that one.
If you can’t find Rare Breed Rye you best got your sweaty palms on her
I've found that the Russels have high variability. I had a pick from Total Wines that was one fo the best bottles I ever had and my Idaho pick.....was kinda terrible.
Ay I have those exact same bottles too, what are the odds. I found them to be about the same, but would put the Total Wine one slightly higher.
Yep totally agree on RR Sib picks being wildly variable in quality.
I meant on first pass # 2 and 9 were labeled WT 101.
So I don't know if you ate cuddlefish before this and ruined your pallet or in my experience there are radical difference in WT from having the most amazing Russel's Single to the crapiest ones and same thing with 101 etc...
You must have a bad bottle of RR SiB, because the two I’ve owned have been great. One was a store pick, but the good ole regular was good too. 🤔
Can you guys do a video on the Barrel King?
i think long branch is good(not great but good enough) everyday sipper for bourbon fan but not wt fan 😅
Green 2x4 got me!! Would have loved to see where Russel's 10 year and 13 year would have ended up in this lineup.
Yea I was shocked to not see the 10.
I'm shocked seeing neither of them!
Spoiler Alert:
1 Master's Keep Decades 150 > 154
2 12 Year 174 > 173
3 Russel's Single Barrel 20
4 Russel's Single Rick 148 > 174
5 Forgiven 86
6 Longbranch 132
7 Kentucky Spirit 134
8 Rare Breed 105
9 WT 101 58
10 WT 81 125
11 Legends 177 > 164
Aren't there multiple more Russell's? It seems odd to include multiple bottles that are long gone but exclude some of the still readily available ones.
We just don't like the white label Russell's so we didn't include it
I just think of the words of Eddie Russell on barrel picks after 4 or 5 samples now you're just drinking lol
Y’all run out of RR13? Wonder how that would have done.
I have a CGF 12yr I purchased as a dusty in 1998... Cannot bring myself to open it
Oh....12yrs must be sweet spot for WT
Russell's Single Barrel and wild turkey Rare Breed are the only two in this list that you need, especially in their price ranges. When two people's pallets are always so far apart, that's a problem. You guys aren't together on a lot of stuff.
"It smells, more..." (insert awkward tickling balls gesture) - Dan Shook - This had me dying
Wow. The power of going blind is in full effect here boys! 😳😬Cheers y'all
Longbranch is good! Everybody knocks it because McConaughey put his name on it. Personally, I don't think it's Rare Breed good, but apparently you guys do!
Great blind tasting! Wish you could have had Russell's 13 in it.
RR13 slaps on single rickhouse imo. i bet it would win the whole thing
You had #2 as WT 101 in the 1st tasting. Then you had #2 as Wild Turkey 12 Year in the 2nd testing.
Did WT 101 make the top 4 or no?
Damn, Sean headshot quite a few!
LOL. Glad I clicked on "more..." before commenting. "THEY DID 101 TWICE!!! WTF!!!"
I love white label Russell’s, I get it for 32 bucks though. Seen it did 40, wouldn’t pay that
What’s the series?
Heaven Hill
Beam-knob creek
High west
Smoke wagon
Jack Daniel’s
You guys skipped russels 13 because it was an obious 1st place or did you skip in order to invalidate the test so you could taste them all again?
Are we really not gonna talk about 81 ranking above Rare Breed?
Personally ever since WT changed the bottle design the 101 isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Have blinded a new bottle vs and old bottle multiple times and it always tastes way younger and more grain forward than the old bottles. Even looking at them in the glasses the new 101 is much lighter in color as well
So glad a blind confirms my feeling that rare breed isn’t good. All I get is ethanol every time I’ve had it. So harsh, all burn, no flavor.
Great video. Please do this with all brands!
Great... Top 3 you can't get and one of them they don't even make anymore....Can't wait to try them.... Have A Great Day Everyone 🥃🥃 in short the best Turkey their is are the ones you can't get....
I mean... isn't that the same for any whiskey line up? The BT ranking ended with EH Taylor Single Barrel, WLW and GTStagg as the top 3. We can't all get those bottles, but just look at what finished highest that you can get and count that as your #1.
@@RocketSauce666 it was a Joke..first off. The only thing I have an issue with is including a Bottle that hasn't been made in over a decade....
@@mrjiggs8 Fair enough, hard to tell from your post... but I guess with all of these things, if you want to spend the money, all of those bottles are gettable. You can buy a dusty Turkey if it's something you wanna shell out for, just like you can get anything on secondary. I guess I still don't have any issue with just removing the banjo bottle from the list and seeing past it to what finished in 4th. But I hear ya. Sucks to not have infinite funds and unicorn bottles at our disposal.
Wish you had done the Russell's 10 year instead of the single barrel. Those single barrels can be hit or miss.
Alright, say I'm looking to spend $40, do I buy Russell's 10 or Longbranch?
Damn, RR10 is $40 in your region? $20-25 here. 2 different bottles there. RR10 is my daily.
Yup, out here RR10 sits at $40-42. And Rare Breed is $57. At least I can get the 101 for $22.
@Razieleatssouls Yeah, can't go wrong with 101 @$22.
You two have now been anointed the "80 proof junkies". Please wear your title with pride.
Russell's Reserve SB was last with 20. Do you guys just hate the taste of bourbon?
Are you guys cleaning the pallet between drinks? If you're not I'd wonder what your profiles and ratings would be. Building on top of each has to have some sort of negative effect.
We have water, we also make sure to take 2 drinks to use the first as like a wash
Gotta love what blinds can do to a bottle you weren't too fond of during the initial review.
Love the video guys. You guys have become one of my favorite channels to watch. Would love for you guys to have a meet up and have a drink or two with you!
We have a meet up currently scheduled for August 5th. All the information can be found on our page, www.bourbonjunk.com/pours-in-the-park-2023
#2 & #9 are WT101?
Decades retailed for 130 when it was around here
