AS I LAY DYING Redefined ~ Composer Reaction and Dissection ~ The Decomposer Lounge
Old Composer Reacts to Rock and Heavy Metal
“Took a little break” is a great way to say the lead singer went to prison for hiring a hit on his wife 😂
Lmao my same reaction
Wait WHAT?! That's absolutely fkd up, but this ain't the same lead singer that did those things right?
@@haniffat it is in fact the same singer. Which made the "inspiring" lyrics on their latest album fairly off-putting.
What are their current lyrics about currently? Werent they a christian Metalcore band back in the days?
Another on of those "can you separate the art from the artist" situations.
As I Lay Dying’s best song that i know of is easily “through struggle” I wouldnt steer you wrong!! insane rhythmical arrangements in there.
"Took a little break" what a nice way of putting it :D I remember i stopped listening to them after that fiasco happened but recently got back into their old stuff. Its really good metalcore
despite what happened they're still a solid metalcore band
@Jimmy Hollywood nice song the new one 🤘
“Falling upon deaf ears” is still one of the heaviest songs I have ever heard. That main chuggy bit with the harmonic just DESTROYS!!!🤘🤘
Yeah, me too. I wasn't going to return to listening to them even after they got back together, but it seems like he really reformed (or reforged, as it were) himself. After listening to the people he hurt the most talk about it, I figured who am I to judge when they all forgave him and welcome them back
I concur!
This isn't how I expected post-rock week to start lol
Jordan is an absolute unit on the drums!
He's a beast. Saw him filling in for unearth in 2016. Was cool seeing him play a slightly different style of metalcore.
I caught his drumstick once at a show in 2006! And got it signed. Always loved him as a drummer
AILD are one of the best in metalcore! I’d love to hear your take on their songs Parallels, Forsaken, and The Sound of Truth!
Yes, Parallels!
Great Band that gets a very black and white reception these days. Their albums “Frail worlds collapse” and “shadows are security” are both ESSENTIAL metal core albums from that time. Frail worlds is probably still top 10 all time for me. Check out “Falling upon deaf ears” or “distance is darkness” for some earth shattering breakdowns!! Also “FOREVER” should always be the intro song for this band IMHO. Even non-metal heads love that song!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
BERRIED ALIVE - STRAWBERRY SERENITY
🤯🍓🔥🤯🍓🔥🤯🍓🔥🤯🍓🔥🤯🍓
Glad you’ve found these guys. Their earlier albums before the “break” have some really dynamic songs - Through Struggle, Confined and Forever are my personal favourites
Yes HERE WE GOO!! Geebz is back! 🤙🤘 Bring on the heavy stuff.
'My Own Grave' next please. Or if you're looking for oldie, 'Confined' will do the best!
As I Lay Dying is one of my favorite bands, pretty much one of the best examples of what metal core truly is.
All That Remains’ older stuff is also legit.
I AM THE WEAK WILLLLLLLLLLLLED
I think hed get a lot out of six. I know its well known and they have a ton more but its a great starting point for a great band
Anything off the fall of ideals would be killer. My favorite album of theirs by far
August Burns Red - I don’t know, pick a track. Solid, consistent metalcore.
Converge - heartless
Blood has been Shed - she speaks to me
Norma Jean - Memphis will be laid to waste
I just went back and listened to that NJ album the other day. Honestly I don’t think it’s aged that well
ABR never dissapoints, maybe Meddler to start is a good option, but every song is a banger
Anna - Norma Jean
August Burns Red is such a talented band! Can't wait to see him decompose a song from them.
@@tiltingatwindmills3243 I never know what to suggest for Norma Jean, I still think longest lasting statement destroys.
They have two great vocalists, one clean and one harsh
This is the band that defines metalcore for me.
I'd say them and KSE.
The people that requested this knew what they were doing. Awesome to to see
Dude you're awesome...I've been watching you critique some of my favorite songs over the past couple months and it's felt like you are right beside me on the couch headbanging with me. You analyze the song in ways I've never remotely thought of. It's awesome. So thank you.
All Shall Perish - We Hold These Truths
Can we get an Every Time I Die song?
Omg yes please
Nice! Got into these fellas when they first came out and really defined my taste for this genre. Love seeing anything and everything come up that's familiar or new on your channel. Cheers 👍
You can really hear the power of the mustache in those drums
I do believe it's one of the guitarists that does the clean singing and the lead vocalist does the growls.
@Jimmy Hollywood with this mix, I guess the bassist does need something to do.
The vocalist is actually the producer for pretty much all their albums.
Thanks for doing AILD!! I really appreciate this entire album, I think it may be the best album they have put out, but I really love Oceans.
their song my own grave is incredible as well
Great reaction, but now we HAVE to see some footage of you playing that new 7 string guitar, Geebz!
Next time you're in the mood for some ultra heavy 'deathcore' flavored music, you must check out 'To the Hellfire' from the band Lorna Shore--blistering speed, crushing riffs, massive sounding choral/orchestral elements, and their new vocalist does some truly inhuman things with his vocal cords. They have a way of making heavy music sound especially 'epic.' Would love to watch you pick apart this track, I've listened to it a hundred times but I know you'd still catch something I haven't!
Aloha! 🤙
Honestly, I think of the abbyss is better for a composer to listen to.
It's time for some ERRA Geebz! Eye of God is awaiting you! I will literally do a backflip the day I see you give them a listen!!
I’ve been asking for ERRA for a while now lol
Yes, we NEED some ERRA! "Vanish Canvas" or "The Hypnotist" would be my picks!
Electric Twilight or Spirits Away or Dementia or whole damn discography is my vote
@@tylerbaars1173 Most def 😄 ERRA is the best!
Thank you for finally covering AILD!! much more to dive into in this genre as well as with AILD
Might I also suggest from "As I Lay Dying"... overcome, meaning in tragedy, confined, 94 hours, my own grave, parallels, vacancy, the only constant is change, & last but not least - through struggle
Allegaeon “Proponent for Sentience III “
Allegaeon “Gray Matter Mechanics “
My favourite band ! Listen to “confined” if u get a chance .
“Forever” and “94 hours” are these guys best tracks
94 hours for sure
Beyond creation omnipresent perception
Killer live band.
Thank you for finally choosing as i lay dying, they have a really good cover of electric eye by judas priest if youre interested. Thanks as always for the great content!
The Chariot!!!!!
Anything of theres!
lol lets get geebz on more breakdowns
The former leader of As I Lay Dying had another band, a metal tribute to Arnold Schwarzenegger and his movies. The band is called Austrian Death Machine, and they released more than one album so there is a lot to listen to. Perhaps you could check out either "I'll Be Back" or "Get to the Choppa". Love the channel, hope to see lots more in the future.
Check out more of their album shaped by fire. Got so many good tracks, as well, their new song roots below
@Jimmy Hollywood yeah I was hopeful, but they also lost their guitarist Nick Hipa, so I think it's gonna be a min before they come out with something new
Excellent choice Geebz !
I've never really listened to any of their albums but now I will. It's some heavy shit ! 🤘
Thanks !
@Jimmy Hollywood Not that familiar with that "genre". If it sounds heavy, I'll give it a go.
Check out “frail worlds collapse” and “shadows are security”, both albums are near perfection IMHO.
@@mtgguiltfeeder4111 Cheers 👍
@Jimmy Hollywood I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve heard from them but am not as familiar with their stuff after “an ocean between us”. The two I mentioned as just personal favorites.
As I lay dying in the school bus in 2004. What a match. The new stuff. . . Can't touch it
I know you saw all the comments for that Lorna Shore : To The Hellfire 🔥 ☕️
Anodyne Sea! Geebz you will not be disappointed I promise.
I remember you saying you like acoustic songs, The Used does an acoustic version of a sing called Lunacy Fringe and it's quite good (also As I Lay Dying is the band that got me into metal so hell yeah lol)
I saw them at a tiny venue in my home town of Boise Idaho around 2003 or so, it was a great show
The Venue! I was probably there also
@@furyfilm yoooo no shit! It was called the Venue you're right, that's awesome you were there too haha✌
Aloha my friend! Cycle back: Katatonia - Heart Set To Divide, Draconian - Sleepwalkers, Opeth - Burden, Mastodon - Jaguar God NEW STUFF: Borkbager - Winter Thrice, Soen - Opal, Alcest - Sapphire....
Oohhh Borknagar! That'll be awesome!
Ooh yes anything Katatonia, Heart Set to Divide is such a great dark proggy opener, those harmonies in the later half of the chorus are so haunting and beautiful in typical Jonas fashion.
Jaguar God is a great choice. Need some The Ocean as well, maybe Holocene.
Great reaction and dissection and now that you've dipped your feet so to speak into metalcore maybe check out Parkway Drive. I'd suggest the songs Hollow, Leviathan i, Frostbite and Five Months.
He did Parkway Drive but it was one of their dad rock songs from the last 2 albums.
Parkway from the early years is best... they went the wrong direction.
Killing with a smile, Horizions, Atlas, etc...
You NEED to check out A Wolf Amongst Ravens by After The Burial. The gr00ve is incredible!
Yeees, love that song!!
While Tim "took a break" they did material under the name Wovenwar with vocalist/guitarist from Oh Sleeper, Shane Blay.
You should check out After the Burial's Behold the Crown
I would love to see some Minus the Bear or Portugal the Man reactions. Great jam music.
phuuuck yes a Minus the Bear reaction would be great. Thank you for reminding me of their glory. Old stuff tho - like planet of ice or earlier
Would love to see this too!
Great stuff de-composer!
Black Crown Initiate - Holy Silence, would love to hear your thoughts on that one, one of my all time favorites.
my favorite comment from the music video is "damn the only thing shorter than the solo was his prison sentence."
HEYA GEEBZ!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Wow 😅 I was totally considering requesting an AILD song (although definitely not this one 😏) but I didn't for a couple of reasons: First of which, I made the decision not to request anything at all, as I figure you probably have a million requests as is; and second is that I wasn't sure AILD was the appropriate request for your channel, and here you already have a video of one. 😂
Would looooove to see you do a video on Tethys by conquering dystopia man - instrumental technical death metal for the win!
Absolutely Excellent band! So happy you're doing metalcore
If you are wanting to check out a smaller band you should listen to some Affiance. Absolutely killer vocals
"Geebz is gonna pause any second now"
"Here it is, it's coming right now"
"Homie done gone forgot he usually does a pause and breakdown, ain't it?"
Great band!!!!
Machine Head - A Farewell to Arms!!!!!!
Roid rage is bad mmkay? Dude almost lost it all with bad misfires in his noggin, not to mention his friends and family. He’s blessed that his band mates gave him another chance to walk a different path.
“Confined” and “The Sound Of Truth” are still my favorites. The lyrics in “The Sound Of Truth” really made me a fan.
I think you would dig Born of Osiris!
Can i make a suggestion here? I hope i could because here's mine :
1. Gojira - The Axe
2. Slaughter to Prevail - Demolisher
3. Architects - Holy Hell
Btw, i love your reaction & analysis in this channel. I learnt a lot, even though i still know nothing about music. So, thank you so much geebz!
All that remains - Two weeks, As I Lay Dying - Forever, Parkway Drive - Prey. Welcome to metalcore edition
Dude, you gotta do Woods of Ypres, Travelling alone - it isn't mainstream, but it is brilliant, check them out and give the composer a post humous back slap for being awesome.
I'd love to hear you dissect Trivium. People often categorise these guys and AILD under the same genre, so it'd be a nice easy transition.
Nice video, Geebs. But I have to say it for everyone here… the last baron, THE LAST BAAARON (Mastodon). Please and thank ya!
Totally unrelated to this song, but really surprised to not find any The Dear Hunter reactions on your channel! Please add "Is There Anybody Here" to your queue, I promise you will not regret it!
Would be dope seeing you check on Psycho Choke. Really digging the songs since forever and pretty much no one talks about them. No Place In My Soul and Death by Words are prolly my favourites.
I love the song they had on Guitar Hero
You should deep dive into the story behind this album. The band's hiatus due to Tim's bad decision is crazy...and their comeback is inspirational. Saw the live shortly after Tim got out of prison, and loved the show. "My Own Grave" is also a KILLER track.
Such a great band. As a lot of people have said their older stuff is great as well. Would LOVE to see some Phinehas on here. I can't stop listening to their newest album. What an amazing band. Some August Burns Red would be great too.
Check out the band August Burns Red Marianas Trench, Meddler, Poor Millionaire, Majoring in the Minors, Beauty in Tragedy are a few great songs. But any song by them is amazing
Would love to see you react to Fit For a King- When everything means nothing
Do The Proverbial Bellow by Between the Buried and Me... NOWWWWWWWWWWWW
Wow, certainly in your face lol
❤️
I think you should check out All that remains "six"... i think youll have a lot to say about that one
Being a composer I think you would enjoy the production on the Twenty one Pilots album titled Trench. Any song, they all have something special and unique.
Did I mention, there's only 2 band members and they put on one of the best concerts I've ever been to in the last 25+ years of concert going?
Check out Born of Osiris, which sounds just like this band. Their album The Discovery is awesome, so I'll recommend the song Singularity.
Hoping for some Whitechapel at some point! Tracks to consider please:
Black Bear
Eternal Refuge
Possibilities of an Impossible Existence
The Saw is the Law
Elitist Ones
I, dementia
The Night Remains
Brimstone
When a Demon Defiles a Witch
Necromechanical
Kia ora, respect for the reactions, you need to check out Fat Freddy's Drop from New Zealand, you have never heard anything like this, try their first track off there first album called "Ernie"
you'd probably really enjoy the song self destruct by kublai khan. its more of a hardcore band but still very heavy. other great songs off the top of my head are boomslang and the hammer
Hey. If you could do more As i lay Dying. My favourite song from them is confined. Also 94 hours is pretty special. They had two really amazing albums Frail words collapse, and shadows are security. Not saying that there new stuff isnt good but the older stuff just has more heart into it. So yeah as i lay dying "confined" would be a great video for you to do. And they are Christian metal.
In Post Rock week, PLEEEEEEAAAAASE do Endless Dive. They're instrumental and they take elements of heavier music but maintain that post rock atmosphere. Their song Outgrown, Pt. 2 is my single favourite song ever, it is just pure joy
you should do some Shadows Fall
"Took a little break" XD
Pantera sir.. You need to do Pantera!!
You can't go wrong with As I Lay Dying, but if you want to hear some good 7 string stuff, check out If He Dies, He Dies by Glass Cloud. I know you're flooded with suggestions but I'll throw this out here. Keep on rockin
Do some of their older stuff.. ‘through struggle’ also Killswitch Engage and Underoath… the hardest concert I’ve been to (and I’ve been to them all(TOOL Is my favorite band of all time) was Killswitch Engage!!!!!!!!
We need some August Burns Red on here sometime.
Still waiting to hear your take on Lorna Shore. Either the track Hollow Sentence or Immortal. If you love the precision of this AILD track, you’ll love Lorna Shore. But they throw in symphonic/black metal elements
Review Star One’s album Space Metal.
Awesome Stuff Geebz! Could you react to "The Rain Formally Known As Purple" by Chris Christodolou? It's a wonderfully brilliant track from the Risk of Rain 2 OST. I think you would love all the flavor and texture it has to offer!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘😎🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have enjoyed your reactions to Tool and Metal as well as many others. BUT I typed in your channel and "Orion" and didnt see a video for the amazing song by Mettalica. It is a purely instrumental song by Mettalica. But it is utterly a spiritual ride. Try it out!
Next time you should do a song from before the "reunion", much better stuff
I see your picture matches your take
As I Lay Dying - My Own Grave
Fourth by Attic Arcade, please and thank you.
Death's Without Judgement (sic) please
Please do Dimmu Borgir "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse"
