Behind the board, he was BRUTAL with people. Almost everyone had the same story...they all had a moment where they thought they were nailing something and the headphones go silent and you hear “NOPE, DO IT AGAIN!” BUT, that’s why all of these guys sounded amazing.

Watching these is fun because I learned this whole album finally last year. As I've progressed in my playing(guitar) I go back to these older songs I loved and they all seem so simple now. I kinda laugh at myself but that's just a sign of the progress and picking things up way quicker. Love the technical aspect of these breakdowns.

Amazing song. Howard is one of my favorite vocalists, and I've always liked the way they blend singing and screaming in such a seamless way. They always seem to have riffs that are memorable too.
If you like that mix of vocals, you should check out And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope by Ne Obliviscaris. The violin playing in that song is absolutely beautiful, as well.

I've been listening them since school and all these nuances you spoke about is what really shone out in everything to me then as well. I don't know much technical musical lingo, but that thing of looping the sound between the ears and having something at the back holding the song together and some other stuff is really what makes me keep going back to some songs and artists even after many years. Great to see you analysing metal bands. Do check out Insomnium. I think you will find their work really enjoyable. Especially their earlier work from these albums: The Day it All Came Down, Above the Weeping World and In the Halls of Awaiting. Personally suggest - Disengagement, At the Gates of Sleep.

What a day for reaction videos for me! Geebz reacts to "The Arms of Sorrow", The Charismatic Voice reacts to "Harlequin Forest", and Doug Helvering reacts to "The Count of Tuscany". What do these channels (along with my other go-to, Critical Reactions) have in common? They're all musicians who dissect songs to explain what makes them great, and they all react to prog metal!

All That Remains' old stuff has a lot of interesting things to check out as well, Chiron where the Hungarian Minor scale is used comes to mind (RIP Oli). This vid was great, I love hearing more about the technical and compositional aspects of the music I listen to. Looking forward to more videos, great as always! EDIT: Oh about the screams you mentioned at the end, Adam Dutkiewicz (guitar) usually does the very low growls while Howard/Jessie do the higher ones and in a lot of songs they overlap them.

I like to switch my focus from one instrument to the next and learning your skills would definitely help me do that better.
