I have never heard of that braid before. Love your content and products! Hope the business and family is doing well brother. GOD BLESS and tight lines!!
Honestly, I didn't even know that Phenix made fishing line! I will definitely check it out. Thanks again for all the great content. My second order from Mule is arriving today. I'm like a kid at Christmas waiting by the front door! 😂
The best line for ultra light fishing without a doubt. Its thin diameter makes it so you can move up several lbs without sacrificing casting distance. The 5lbs iron feather casts just as far as all other 2lbs test competitors. The other 2lbs competitors test became a headache to use when every other fish can break off. Easily lost so many fish. Now with the 5lbs test iron feather I dont lose any fish
Big appreciation for your videos. My kids have rekindled a passion for fishing that I lost some time ago. My 9 year old has been bait fishing for a few years but last week I tied her first top water lure and she smashed a bunch of small mouth in a stream nearby. I've been fishing with a 5' St Croix UL I've had for 30 years, but I think it's time retire it or hand it down. I scooped up a St Croix Premier 6' UL, a Shimano Sedona, and some of your jig kits and line recommendations. Looking forward to trying them out.
🎣 for sure here and there's no question about it either, fantastic setup you have here. Also nothing but a great fish catching and releasing video. I haven't been doing any fishing in a while, probably 4 weeks give or take or maybe even more. Here in Pennsylvania it's been way too hot and The Creeks are very low, yes we do need some good rain storms to bring up the water.
I just got a spool of it and pared it up with the same reel (just the 2500 size) and the bass pro panfish elite (Like you said that rod is a bit tip heavy and the slightly bigger reel makes it balance perfectly). I am really exited to go fishing for some rainbow trout.
I have that vanford shallow spool as well and it's so nice. I don't use it as much anymore because I have some small BFS reels that I prefer but it's worth more than the price suggests
Phenix sounds like a brand to check out. I like power pro but it does have some shortcomings. This is worth looking into, investment forward to save headaches for future me. Blessings Ethan my friend
I have two rolls of the 5# on deck, but they will either wait a long while until my current line (Sufix) ages or I buy an unnecessary additional reel. Phenix sent me a 15% off code after my purchase, so perhaps an Elixir is in my future which of course would be worthy of a new reel and the line.
I would like to see you use the new all might braid it's very thin diameter than I thought it would be, but I will certainly check out that line that you have in your hands The Phoenix iron feather braid
Lately I have caught a ton of fish on a Horse Fly. However, I get a lot of short strikes using the 1/64 oz mule jig like you describe in the video. I cut the head off the Horse Fly and it reduces the short strikes significantly.
if your not using it on a bobber, let the fish grab hold onto it before you set the hook, its what i do to avoid small bluegills from biting the tails off of my plastics
Hey man i recently started watching your vids and i love the content, i started getting into UL fishing, im here in Wyoming and im trying out more lakes recently. What are the limitations of UL rods with bigger fish? Biggest ive caught this year was a 20 inch trout and it felt amazing fighting it im going to a lake with 20 inch+ fish and i thought about bumping up to my medium light
You can land big fish on ultralights but you need to be mindful of a few things… 1) how much are you wearing on the fish? it is important to be mindful of fish care if you practice catch and release 2) how much cover is there for fish to dig into and break your line? if it’s pretty open, your drag and patience will let you catch big fish on light gear no issues!
I'll still count the bigger bass for ya, we saw it and you brought it in :). I was hoping this was the new SUP video, but still enjoyable! What knot did you tie for your jig? I do mainly loop knots but sometimes palomar. Take it easy!
I haven't tried the TCB, but I had a neighbor break the tip eyelet on one of the "sore lip" series (also b&m made) and he gave it to me. I only lost about an inch of rod in the repair so it is real close to factory feel. I REALLY enjoy that rod and I think it punches well above it's weight. It has way more backbone than an ultralight while having a nice soft action on the upper section of blank. I've even thrown smaller topwaters, super fluke jrs, and other more traditional "finesse" sized baits and it handles it like a champ. So it is a good rod if you might want to throw some bigger stuff with your micro kit, or have the potential to be in bigger fish more often. It fills the gap between light and ultralight very well.
@@davidrosset8930 I get it. I never would have associated the Lelands brand with "good" rods but that one I have really changed my mind. I have an "extra light" all star and the lelands handles smaller stuff much better. I assume the TCB would be just as solid.
thanks for the videos, how do you spool your braid? off the top? from the bottom? counter clockwise with tape (thin scotch tape cut straight with scissors seems to work) over that stupid slot? bucket of water because it doesn't matter? i tried all kinds of ways and sometimes twist shows up quick and somtimes not at all, cant figure it out. What's your method if i may ask?
Honestly I just set it on the floor in a box (so the spool doesn’t run away) and face the label up and spool it on. I pretty much never get twist as long as I’m using quality line and keeping it tight on the spool.
That line looks great on that Vanford. I have that same exact reel. O.K. Ethan. Ya got me. I'm gonna try it! Also interesting fact. It's on my Dobyn's Sierra Trout and Panfish 6' 2" 1 piece ultra lite. ..yeah. I own that because of your review of that rod. I also have have a little Mule Fishing Tackle box that looks so similar to yours. A lot of the same jigs too. I may have to unsubscribe if this keeps up! Nah. Not happenin''. I do have a question though. That looks like 4 strand braid. Does it cast as well and behave as well as the 6 lb. Daiwa x8 J braid? It's just about the same diameter but 4 strand instead of 8..?? Actually .01 mm smaller if the boxes are correct. Good review! Thanks for sharing.
It doesn’t say how many strands it is but I highly doubt it’s less than 8. It is such a low diameter and smoother than any I’ve felt. Sounds like you have good taste lol
Just depends on your goals and budget. There are trade-offs by going “cheap”. The 13 fishing defy silver rod is still one of my favorite rods for the price.
For ultralight fishing I’ve always just gone straight 4-6 lb. Fluorocarbon, is it worth getting braid that’s under 10lbs? What kind of leader should I use at that point?
I personally feel you’ll notice a MAJOR difference between 4-6lb fluoro and 4-6lb braid. The diameter is lower, easier to see and detect bites, and it casts farther. I’d go with a 4lb copolymer leader or fluoro would be fine too.
I still use a 4lb leader no issues. I don’t love using 2lb leader because I feel the breaking strength difference is too great. I like to keep things semi close.
I ordered a spool Aug 5th using the Amazon link and it's still not delivered on Sept 1. im bummed. I was ready for a new line option. just my luck I reckon. just heads up for anyone ordering on amazon.
Is it possible to expand shipping to make Mule Fishing accessible to those who live in Canada? I really wanna order from your site but shipping is way too much to warrant ordering anything from the site.
If a Canadian retailer would take Mule on, that would be the best bet. At this time, the cost of shipping to another country is what it is and I can’t really avoid it. The cost to ship to Canada isn’t that bad compared to countries overseas.
Great video again! But as a bit of safety advice, try not to wade with exposed feet/legs. Any small nicks to the skin can open you up for terrible infections that can get you the nick name “Peg Leg”. Maybe it’s not as big of a risk in the north but down south it is a real concern. Be careful out there my friend.
@@FishAnything Yeah, these year round relatively warm waters down south breed some gnarly microbes that can cause big problems on the smallest of open wounds. I have a friend who had a two year battle with an infection from wading. He almost lost his lower leg. He has some nasty scars and missing “meat”. Now. 😳😳😳. Stay safe my friend. I’m
He made a fly fishing video a while back with a pretty nice short little custom rod someone made up for him. He was new to it but it looks like he enjoyed himself in the video. I love fly fishing personally and do it about 50/50 with my ultralight spinning. My 3wt Reddington trout/panfish rod is a fish slayer…LOVE IT! Small poppers, little foam spiders, tiny weighted nymphs, and baby sized boogers are just about all I need to have a good day. Of course like most fly fisherman, I take waaaaay more flies than I will ever use in a lifetime. Lol. I will say, a good pair of forceps are indispensable for me with their small mouths. Happy fishing my friend.
@@FishAnything You are right. You can “do more” with a nice spinning rig….top to bottom and all in between with more ease and efficiency. Fly fishing is something that has its limitations but man is it fun when the bite is near the top of the water column! Nothing like a scrappy 9-10 bull gill or 2-3 lb bass on a 3-5 weight “long rod”! Heart stopping at times. Lol. Happy fishing friends!
Great video you’ve never recommended a bad line yet. It’s hard to jump to a new line when the other recommendations are still working good
Ya no need to change unless you really need a new spool. This is my current favorite, but who knows what will be next!

I was using SPRO for a minute and really liked it but it's $10 a spool more than this stuff is. I'll have to give this a try sometime.
Honestly I love the Spro but the Phenix is even better and it’s cheaper! The price is right for the quality they offer.

Do you do a mono backing?
Yeah I usually put a few cranks of mono on as backing
I tried the 3lb it was always breaking off or the knot came loose probably too thin. But when it wasn’t a problem man o man loved it

I almost always do palomar knots unless I’m fishing vertically and then I use a loop knot.
Nice fish and nice review. Thanks for taking us along. Just out of curiosity, have you ever used the Leland Trout Magnet TCB rod?

Always use a 6’ leader of 4lb copolymer tied with a double uni knot

Never heard of the rod! I’m sure it’s a great setup as long as you like it :)

Thought you liked Spro Finesse braid?
That was my favorite until I tried this and I think this takes the cake! Always experimenting, still love the Spro too.
Do they still make this line , I can only find moss green in either 3lb. Or 5 lb.

does it fade at all?
I think all braids do to an extent. I haven’t had a lot of fade yet but I suspect it will soon enough.
Previously, the Spro Finesse Braid was your favorite.
What makes this one your new favorite vs. Spro?
It’s lower diameter so I find it’s even more castable. Also it’s cheaper! Both are great though.
