It may seem a ridiculous comment but this trilogy is among the best ever made. Many have one film noticeably worse than the others but this has three excellent films which all hold up great.

Andy Serkis brings so many characters like Caesar to life. It makes me mad how much he is overlooked when it comes to being nominated for big awards. Not even a freaking nomination
but he was nominated for Best Actor with Empire Awards in Rise of the Apes, Dawn of the Apes and War. He even Won for Dawn of the Apes. Also nominated in two towers and won in return of the king, won best virtual performance on two towers with MTV awards, nominated best supporting actor for Dawn by AACTA, nominated best supporting actor by Satellite Awards for Rise and Dawn, Won Best supporting Actor for Two towers, Rise and nominated for Return of the king and Dawn by Saturn Awards, Best actor for War by them as well, Film Critic awards won and nominated him for so many things I'm not going to list them all. Maybe those aren't considered as big awards, but people have noticed and that's still not all he has won/been nominated for.
overlooked in what universe? He is as known as most top tier actors anymore and has won multiple awards. If you want an overlooked visual character actor look up Doug Jones.
@@ASK2286 Yes, all those awards, but none from the academy. They definitely matter, but you just proved my point. I also googled his awards and accolades to make sure before I made my comment lol
this is a very underrated series overall, i only wish they could have continued and finished by bringing it full circle to the astronaut crash landing on future earth [the hints in the first movie with the Icarus space ship launch] and the last movies young Nova character [mute girl] - would have been very cool to see how they would have remade the original 60's storyline with these 3 movies of world building behind it to give it depth and history.
The scene where Gary Oldman pulls out the tablet after it charges just to look at the pictures. Gets me every fucking time. Like how long has he carried that around just hoping, waiting, for power to charge it just to look at photos of his family. That's the stuff that absolutely rips my heart out and Gary Oldman kills that small scene.
I can't imagine why this trilogy wouldn't perform well for views. It's so good. The performances are spot on. The effects still hold up. And, it's easy to relate to just about everyone's point of view and actions. One of my favorite trilogies.
Funny that George mentioned Plague Inc. Simian Flu is one of the virus options in the game. It’s actually part of a tie-in with 20th Century Fox and the in-game icon is Caesar’s face from the poster.
Simian flu, cool. I remember the old flash game Pandemic2 and evolving one of the three types of disease spreading classes. Virus, bacteria or parasite. Always trying to get Madagascar to win. Never got around to PLague inc. but I've heard it's the same. Talking bout Simian flu I remember that old 1995 movie Outbreak and the outbreak monkey too. That'd be another to watch.
1:05 The way Simone just inches forward with zero expression on her face, and just says "That was a good one, George." I laughed for twenty minutes straight... Perfection!!!
The only thing I've always wished was that there had been a final film...a true remake of Planet of the apes in THIS series. (Not that Tim Burton trash with Mark Whalburg.) I'd always hoped it would come full circle. But I guess that was never in the cards.
This was my favorite film in the new trilogy. Koba’s villain arc was incredibly compelling but also sympathetic. I remember crying in the theater by the end of the film, it’s so emotionally powerful seeing the film end how it started.
Gotta love that final line from ceaser to koba at the end "You are not ape". it goes to show how much ceasar doesnt consider hima fellow ape anymore because he´s shown the most horrible traits shared by humans. the capacity to manipulate, of murdering his own etc.
I thought it was a big improvement on the already good first one. I love the greyness of it but it still doesn't feel overly grim, like caricatures. Nice feel of a well-written tragedy. I also think that's it's still on origin story, at least if you've ever seen the original film. Too bad the original probably wouldn't do too well on your channel, but it's really worth a watch on your own time. Dated in some ways, but the script is amazing old school scifi at its best and overall the movie just works.
Thanks for coming back to this series, I hope this one performs better, all thee of these were great! (mainly just commenting for the engagement for you guys...)
Absolutely love this installment. You forget they’re apes. It makes it so glaring clear though how some hate just because they’ve learned to. It makes us look at ourselves. Are we helping or just continuing the old habits.
This is in my top 5 trilogies of all time..well I know there’s a new one but still…just the story telling, the balance of dark and very subtle light at the end of the tunnel they give, the performances of ALL the motion capture and voiceovers, and the way they portray such a relatable subject (given what happens to us in 2020) and how the world would change after such a disaster. Just overall movies I can watch over and over on any given day and enjoy it as much as the first time…chillls all day
The song they play at the gas station is “The Weight” by The Band, and I love that they use it in this film because its lyrics perfectly reflect the events of the plot: The first verse is about a weary traveler who asks a stranger for help, and the stranger can’t give him what he wants but still offers to lend him a hand. It’s a good parallel for Caesar agreeing to help Malcolm, especially since there’s a line that goes, “‘No’ was all he said.” That totally works as a reference to Caesar’s first word. The second verse is about a man seeing someone he knows walking side-by-side with “the devil,” and when he asks the person he knows to go somewhere with him, they turn him down and leave him alone with the devil. This works as a parallel for Koba’s betrayal, with the Koba that Caesar knows leaving and only his evil side remaining. The scene even times it out so that this verse plays during the moment when Koba kills the trigger happy human.
I hope this video performs well, I didn’t even see that y’all had done the first one, so when you said that in the intro I had to go back and watch it before coming to watch this. These movies are SO good, and I’m so glad you reacted to them!
War for the planet of the apes is amazing. The 2 protagonists match up against each other in a truly epic showdown. It also pushes Caesers moral compass in ways the first 2 haven't. For me it shows Caeser human elements which unfortunately means it makes him appear more savage. A great trilogy and I love watching you guys react.
38:45 George: have you forgotten that a palaeoichthyologist follows this channel? Fish DID have their turn--in fact, the Devonian period is sometimes referred to as the age of the fishes. They had 80 or so million years ruling the planet! Anyway, I hope this video performs well for you two, and happy 2023, @CineBingeReact !
I love all three movies but this is my favourite. Also when Simone laughed at the horseback apes all I could think was "wait for the horseback ape _dual wielding rifles_ ".
The thing here is, if you know the original planet of the apes movie, then it’s not this 1st movie here is the origin story but all 3 movies together. And Matt Reeves did hell of a job
A commenter on another video likened the piano-piece that plays during the Opening-Scene (titled 'Level Plaguing Field') to a "lullaby, singing the human race to sleep". I find that hauntingly accurate.

Really looking forward to your guys' reaction to "War for the Planet of the Apes." I certainly hope ya'll react to it sooner rather than later. It's the best one of the trilogy; it's darker, more tragic, more sophisticated in terms of both morality and character development, and as a character study it gives Serkis's performance as Caesar *so* many more layers, it's downright insulting that he was never nominated for Best Actor.
4:40 This shot confirms it 100%: Maurice is the Lawgiver of this new continuity. A holy profit who laid down the groundwork for Ape society and religion.
This is The Dark Knight of this trilogy. Just fucking incredible. I remember seeing this in theater. The hype building up with the reviews to actually see it. One of my favorites. War gets WAY too much hate. I'd say War is just as good as Rise.

If you're willing to believe it, the third movie bucks the normal trend of trilogies and is even better than the previous two films. It's also not what you'd expect based on the title. I'm excited for you guys to experience it.
Not sure if its been answered but the video camera had battery because they restored power? They showed the lights in the city so you suspect that is how it got charged. It was plugged in when Ceasar found it.
Definitely the best film in the franchise, because it’s not that one side is right and one is wrong, but both sides have legitimate reasons for what they’re trying to do, and both sides have good people on them, and both sides have people who push them into war. My absolute favorute type of story is two good people both doing good things who end up in deadly conflict because of it.
I know this is old, but there actually are other Apes that are like Caesar around the world. While Caesar ruled major parts of America, there was another Ape in France named Pug who took over the entire country and parts of Belgium.
Great reaction, guys. The films raise so many questions about human existence and our relationship to our surroundings. I'd like to think we would act differently but who knows.
There’s no Malcolm in War unfortunately. In a deleted scene, it was explained that the Colonel had him shot because Malcolm believed to the end that war can be averted and they thought he was crazy
Subtle touch I like in this movie: the chimps are physically strong enough to one hand the assault rifles which humans need two hands and their shoulder to use.
I'm pretty sure I saw your reaction to the first movie. I'm going to have to go back and watch it again. I hope you continue with the final movie. I'm happy to see/hear Simone's "woo" during the Patreon shout outs.
Apes would absolutely be more adaptable to this world than humans. That’s basically what this movie is saying that humans require energy to survive for heating lights whereas the apes do not they can climb trees they have enough body furs that they don’t require too much external heat. Not to mention that the apes are stronger than any human making them more adaptable
This is the best one of the series, IMO. It's just really, really good. Third one is surprisingly good too, hope you guys get around to watching that one too.
First time I ever saw Gary Oldman was in the 80s in "Sid & Nancy", where he played Sid Vicious. I have loved how great is he ever since, and he only gets better and better each movie.
This movie does such a good job of putting the audience in the other guy’s shoes: Gary Oldman’s character would never have gone as far as he did if he hadn’t been reminded of what he lost so soon before being bushwhacked, Koba being covered in “human work,” Caesar trying so hard to separate himself from humans that he made it his society’s number one rule (ape not kill ape) not thinking he’d have to defy it so soon. It’s so well thought out.
I also love the nuance of the two scenes with the humans having a conversation about the apes, and the apes having a conversation about humans. Showing that apes have become more humane, while human keeps fighting and arguing with each other.
It's not necessarily that. For example, I dislike the fact that they chat over a lot of important dialogue scenes. Not because I want to hear the dialogue, but because I want THEM to pay attention to it and react accordingly rather than chatting over and missing it entirely or not taking it in properly. People want to see them react to the movie, not talk over a bunch of it when they could simply wait till the end to do so and give the film their undivided attention during.
These movies are so underrated. My Favorite trilogy. I hate the corporate world, I will patiently wait for the "War" reaction. Rise is really good, Dawn is great, War is a masterpiece.
I like the first film, but this one and the third are definitely superior. I'm glad you continued with the series and I hope the others perform better for you. Please react to the original Planet of the Apes (1968) at some point. It's one of my favorites, but no one ever reacts to it.
I love the 3rd one!! Andy should have won the Oscar. Steve Zahn give an amazing performance. As does Woody Harrelson, but he always does. Who doesn't love seeing Woody in a movie!!
Everything you said just.. just wait til you watch the third!!! I gotta say, I was skeptical when this whole series was conceived, but it's just SO GOOD
I grew up watching and still love the original Planet of the Apes movies (1968) with Roddy McDowall (as chimp scientist Dr. Cornelius, then as Caesar in the sequels), so I want to suggest it to get around to at some point (please!). Of the two franchises it's closer to the novel the movies are derived from, La Planète des Singes by Pierre Boulle (involving space travel and time dilation), and its screenplay was co-written by Twilight Zone creator, Rod Serling. There is a total of 5 movies in the franchise; definitely give the first one a go, at the very least.
It's surprising how rarely that gets picked up on. I've a feeling Koba was Stalin's name when he was still a thug and bank robber - either way, it's telling they chose to name the villain in this film after a revolutonary-turned-dictator.
Always funny when I see George quoting George. My main question is, was there turtle juice in that serum, because this seems to take place at least a hundred years after the first one.
Glad you continued the series. Matt Reeves did a hell of a job with the second and third movies.

I had forgotten how enjoyable these movies are. Can't wait to finish them with you both!
The VFX is just unbelievably amazing!
Imagine going back in time and showing this to someone when the old ones first came out. They'd be blown away. Flawless cgi
You should watch the original 5 films. The 1968 film is iconic. And I think you would enjoy the third film; "Escape from the Planet of the Apes".
2:54 "Interesting font. Why is the L taller, I wonder?" I dunno, but it's been that way since the very first Planet of the Apes film in 1968. 🤷♂
By the way, if you didn't know, Koba was a nickname used by Joseph Stalin.
Just fun fact.
It's surprising how rarely that gets picked up on. I've a feeling Koba was Stalin's name when he was still a thug and bank robber - either way, it's telling they chose to name the villain in this film after a revolutonary-turned-dictator.
Looking forward to the 3rd movie reaction! Love this trilogy.
Please continue and complete the series. I really like these moves too.
Always funny when I see George quoting George. My main question is, was there turtle juice in that serum, because this seems to take place at least a hundred years after the first one.
Funny you mentioned Plague Inc as the Simian Flu was added to the game =)
