This song inspired lore for one of the races in my group's D&D setting.
The tutag are a race inspired by the Scots-Irish. Similar to gnomes and halflings, they enjoy the simpler things in life. But when war comes, some of them awake from their sleep having experienced the Death Kenning. They will dig their own grave and hold their own wake. And on the eve of battle, instead of woad, they shall paint themselves with ash. Then, they shall charge headlong into battle, heedless of their own wounds, ready to fight with bare hands and teeth if need be. Because they have prophesied their own death, and willingly embrace it.
So far, only one tutag has survived his Death Kenning. Pip Ban-Glas is now a shattered man. He refuses to wash off his ashes, and now wanders the world with nothing but his tartan and his baselard, going to the lands most steeped in bloodshed and strife. Always seeking and failing to find the death in battle that he demands. His warcry is known throughout the lands, one born equally of rage, sorrow, and frustration.
I don't want to be the dickhead party pooper, and i acknowledge that you mention it is just an inspiration, but this is Welsh, and although they are Celtic like The Scots and Irish, their origins, language, history and culture are completely different.

Here is a motto I made “FROM HEAVEN. TO HELL. ODST!!” What do y’all think? I tried to give it more of a Marine feel given that the ODSTs are still Marines. I wanted to make it sound like 2/5’s (2nd Btn, 5th Mar.) motto “RETREAT, HELL, 2/5!!”.
They’re more like paratroopers I feel
@@aaronrojas501 WW2 the USMC experimented with paratroopers in the Pacific, the ParaMarine, they eventually stopped early in the war because it didn’t fit in with the Marine Corps mission

This song seems more like something that would be sung before, or after battle yknow? The lyrics dont really fit with an active combat scenario. Especially considering swordfighting with a claymore while singing would be.. difficult to say the least. Unless he doesnt care to breathe.
