    This video was released 6-16-19
    It is 5-10-23 almost 4 years later and this is my dream style cottage garden. I have watched this video so many times. I have purchased a lot of these plants and as Laura says it can take years. I don’t have the roses. All 13 of the spearmint heucheras didn’t make it.😢 I think it is due to how rocky and old tree rooty my soil is even know I tried to remove as much as I could. I am loving the development of my area. I don’t have a fence. The year before I saw this video I had put in a whole row of arborvitaes. It is pretty in a different way…I put a wagon wheel in the corner and it added a nice charm to the bed. Mother’s Day is around the corner and told my husband that I would like a Lady Gardner Rose
    instead of a bouquet of roses. Last year I scattered cosmos seeds in the bare areas and it looked spectacular.

    Laura, I really appreciate this type of video. I like how you sat down and talked to us about the basics of cottage gardens. I would love to see more instructional videos like this. With you as our teacher we'll all have beautiful gardens! 🌸🌿🌼❤️❤️

    I may have already commented a few years ago...but I had to mention. The fact that you actually SAT DOWN and had a "CONVERSATION" with the viewers in the midst of your instructional video is what makes you magic Laura. I'd like to see an update of this area, as I have several of these plants but would like to see how they perform elsewhere. Thank You

    I am a little late watching this video but wanted to tell you since we have a smart tv I have been addicted to you on our TV by RUclips, of course!! We live in Aiken SC and are in a area of Sugar Sand....and we are native to Ohio; so what a difference!!....you help me so so much...right now I am fighting breast cancer and have 5 more treatments and then radiation.....we caught it in stage 2, Praise God....but OH, this changes our perspective of living....we are 70 and celebrated our 50th at the beginning of our Cancer treatment journey....so my hub buzzed my head 2 days later; as it was coming out in clumps....so when I can be in the sun again, I have so many plans for our farmhouse outisde....we also rennovated and added an addition to the house....I love how hard working you both are.....we lived in Lebaon Oregon area for a short time....LOVED SEEING MT HOOD ON A CLEAR DAY....AND THEN THE RAINBOWS!!!!!! WOW!!!!! GOD BLESS!!!

    Couldn’t sleep last night and stumbled upon this wonderful video and fell in love with your garden and your presentation. I do NOT have a green thumb but I SO desire a garden like this one. My husband and I turned a barn into a home four years ago and for the past four years I’ve been working on one particular area that’s visible from the road - trying to make it aesthetically pleasing. I’ve planted several different things but nothing has satisfied me, and now I know why. The cottage style theme is what I long to create. Thank you so much for these wonderful tips. I hope I can bring it all together.

    Although this is about a year old, I chose to watch it for some ideas for in front of our house this year. I love the cottage idea, but I get a little insecure when it comes to combining colors and textures. I know what I like, but it doesn’t always turn out quite like I’d hoped. Thanks for this great video! Just love what you do! 💖

    This helped me feel a little better about how my cottage garden is coming along. This is the third season since we created our front bed (an 18'x20' triangle) and I was sitting here thinking I've really messed up. But each of your tips I'm like, "yup, done. Did that. Did that too. Oh, be patient? Okay." So patience (and shoving in more plants) it is!

  • @tonyasmusic2011
    @tonyasmusic2011 3 года назад +3

    I've never heard of a cottage garden... until now. 😁 I'm super excited to realize that this is what I'm doing with my front flower bed without knowing it. 💖 I feel better knowing that I'll have "empty space" until my new plants have time to expand to their fullest potential. Patience is not my virtue, but I feel better about being able to enjoy each of the stages.

I'm one of 'those' people who loves to assimilate as much information as they can, so I'm hoping if I listen to these more than seventeen times I'll commit them to memory 🤣! So excited to see you talk about my favorite, cottage style gardening! Your tips are just what I needed, esp the one about planting in straight lines! I LOVED your color palette and how you explained how to use it to keep it cohesive, yet let the eye drift around and also use textures. I have a bad habit of buying a bunch of different plants I like and trying to make it work, instead of buying several of the same kind and actually making it look like something! I am learning so much from you... thank you!!!

    That was super helpful. I inherited a cottage garden and have felt so confused by it. This was just what I needed - the tips fit what I’ve been trying to do. I’ve pulled out what I didn’t like (mostly), added a Indonesian boat bench and some stepping stones and pots, and it looks so much better. It still seems chaotic, but the structural elements help so much! I also have a trellis for a new clematis. I’m anxious to see how it does.

    Can't wait to get started here in Missoula MT, in my new little yard! Had amazing cottage gardens w/many various vintage gates (still have), I collected over 25 years. Had a picket fence around my big side yard at my home in Frenchtown MT on wooded 5 acre property. It all evolved over a 26 yr period into charming/amazing smells/sites. I reeeaaalllyyy love this type of video. I'm new to gardening and love this type of garden. It's so helpful to see the thought process. I'd love to see a similar video and/or get suggestions on plants for a cottage *shade* garden. Happy fathers day, Aaron! ❤️

    Thank you!! It's 2021 and I'm working on my little seaside garden that I now know is a cottage garden, thanks to you! I love a sweet, wild garden planted with thought and creativity. My spaces aren't very big, about as big as the garden in this video, and I've worked so hard on color and placement. Your 10 tips were beyond helpful, bc they answered many questions I've had about, "am I doing this right?" So thank you again Laura, I'm a cottage gardener!

    Thank you thank you thank you!!! I had already decided on doing a small cottage garden (mostly shade loving plants) in front of our river home. You made that process SOOOOO much easier to negotiate (color, pattern, scent and form) I've already played this twice and have made notes on your 10 tips! You could not have timed this video any better for me!! Cannot wait to see how yours looks at the end of the season and then at the height of next season for comparison! Thank you, once more!

    Love this style of garden, so refreshing, thank you for the inspiration. We’ve recently built our home on our farm and I’m now living in what used to be a cow pasture lol, coming from a home we had lived in for 20 years so my flower beds there were really taking shape and were well established... this blank slate I’ve been given . Is a little overwhelming and I keep reminding myself the last place took time too.. shopping the clearance racks st the garden center has helped me in stretching my Garden budget and starting plants from seeds has helped too..

    So pretty! My garden is all cottage style beds and borders🌻 I drop in a glazed terracotta flowerpot planted with geranium or varigated spiller like lamium or a textured sedium placed beside a drift of medium tall plants and I have instant architectural features without having to build or install anything. Foliage become my feature rather than flower- between the blooming cycles of the bedded plants and flowerpots are the perfect vessel
