Sometimes I see some War Thunder takes that confuse me, so I have to look closely at them. Many Russian tech tree players say that the 2S25M Sprut is not a good light tank. I had a great time playing it beforehand, and didn't have any major complaints with it, so I figured we could take a quick look at it. I do think it's a bit funny that Gaijin put a tank from 2022 at 10.0 in Ground RB.

People have called it a light tank with the mobility, traverse and gun of an MBT, while having none of the armour.
Fast TD? Light assault gun? interesting to categorize
To be fair, at top tier, you usually don't survive the first hit anyway
@@tonedeaftachankagaming457 It's 100% a light tank. Russia designed it to be air dropped with paratroopers, since all of their cold war ideas to drop in regular tanks were failures
@@filmandfirearms This. Mobility in top tier is useless when you gonna get your clown cheeks clapped by the first shell or Misile that heads your way. Going fast only means i can sit calmly and watch you head to my trap faster than expected. But hey, im just another puppet playing under the mighty Snail command.
@@filmandfirearms top tier Russian Armor does work a lot.
This thing feels like the final evolution of the PT-76. Fast, light, armor that can be penned by a pop-tart, but with firepower and gun handling which basically make it an extremely fast and agile MBT, as long as you don't get spotted and hit. Vehicles like this have the potential to be the best in the game, if used properly.
pt 76 ssj3 you say?
I mean, kind of, I'd say it's the final evolution of the ideal that created the PT-76, but the actual final evolution of the PT-76 is the E or as WT calls it, the 57, since that was designed and built in the mid 2000's.
Except CAS ruins all of the above
@@SovietUnion_ fuck CAS, all my homies hate CAS
Wonder if they’ll ever do the Indonesian-proposed PT-76 variant with a faster engine, better turret, a 90mm gun, and ATGMs.
Every fuel tank can stop APFSDS, except the one at the front of the Merkava that was placed there to stop rounds.
Gaijin logic be like:
Pretty much every fuel tank in the higher tiers is intended to provide protection for the crew
found my experience to be the opposite. nothing italy has can pin the merkiva from the front hull. the turret mantle is easier to pin
@@user-jw8jn7lh8c depends on the model, if you look at the xray as well, it is much weaker on one side
2:23 Unfortunately WT rewards kills more than playing the objective. In my experience I'd rather loose a game and not die and even get a few kills, than get wrecked, win and pay the repair costs (Looking at you AMX-13). Also the capping is really badly designed, if you cap 90% of the thing, die and someone else finishes the cap you get nothing.
They need to make it where you get rewarded every second youre on a cap. With a reduced rate once its captured.
Once I was playing the AML-90and i was capping a point and some german cannon cas mofo killed me when there was a pip of the capture point left to be capture, I never alt-F4'd faster in my lifd
@@robertharris6092 the battlefield approach to point scoring for caps is something nice
@@phial7616 i think thats something most games have. cod has the same system
@@xloltimex38 Perhaps, BF4 was the easiest example i had in mind where point aquisition is so easily displayed, ticking in in real time. a bit of a decade old example at this point, but still
In the wiki for 2s25, it said, the name "sprut" means kraken, not octopus. Not to be mean.
Slightly cooler, but basically the same thing
@@Spookston Kraken sounds epic tho
@@Spookston Kraken > white whale ;)
@@Spookston What do you mean slightly, it's a ship eating octopus of the seven seas or something, that's dragon status right there
Sprut is a colloquial term for giant cephalopod.
So while you can say that Kraken is a sprut, sprut ≠ Kraken, if that makes sense.
Only took 90 seconds for spook to mention the HSTV L this time, is that a new record?
94 seconds to be precise
The Name can also seemingly be translated as Kraken, which is much cooler
Hubby, wake up. Tank dog uploaded a new video
tank dog chain
Tank dog. :)
tank dog
Tank dog 😂
Panzerhund
I've heard nobody talk about this thing, I've looked at these vehicles and they seem pretty good. Probably just overshadowed by the copious amount of mbts they have
It’s probably because the BVM has basically the same mobility, a faster reload, and is covered in bias bag ERA
@@collander7766 yeah russian top tier is full of good vehicles
It's crazy when you start to be older than some of the tanks being added now.
The Mi28NM completed trials and was added to WT barely 1 year later
I love this tank, I became obsessed with it when Battlefield 3 armored shield DLC dropped and it was a “tank destroyer” looks cool and I personally love the name.
Also one of the mains reasons I started playing this game was for this and the Tunguska
Same bro, definately one of my favorite Russian tanks because of that DLC.
ARMORED KILL
I want this thing, it looks neat and would fit perfectly with the 10.0 line up
Good luck grinding it
I have it, stock grind for mango was very poopoo, mobility while stock is not bad, as fast as spaded t80b maybe a bit faster, HUGE THING but I usually lower the suspension to lowest possible since I noticed it doesnt slow all much while it makes much smaller becoming basically an unarmored t80b with great sights and longer but less wide hull, this thing would become EASILY fantastic if you can adjust the suspension so that you get more depression (dont know if sprut has it but I wish it does) while tunguska has it but doesnt need... but it's fun, but a stock grind cock and ball torture simulator for ussr enthusiasts
It is a soviet tradition. Good one.
MLRS "Katyusha"
"Shilka", "Tunguska", "Dvina", "Neva" - AA rivers
"Giatsint", "Tulpan", "Pion" - "Hyacinth", "Tulip", "Peony" - flower artillery
"Buratino" - "Pinocchio" - heavy flamethrower system
handcuffs - "Tenderness"
shot to an underbarrel grenade launcher - "Foundling"
"Surprise" - baton PUS-3 (telescopic and folding)
"Uyut" - "Comfort" - anti-fragmentation blanket
Т-72B "Rogatka" - "Slingshot"
"Bakhcha-U" - "Melon-U" universal turret combat module (melon here is the large round fruit of a plant of the gourd family, with sweet pulpy flesh and many seeds)
I think I actually prefer the original Sprut over the Sprut SDM1. The original sits at 9.3, gets the mango round, better traverse (turret and turning circle), better reverse gear (10.0 one is capped at 20kph, 9.3 one has up to like 70kph). The Gen 3 thermals are good on the thing, I just gotta remember to not over extend in it.
Wait, really? One of the best features of the Sprut is the full-speed reverse.
The point of the sprut series is for the vdv to airdrop it on objectives while the bmp3 is the ifv for ground forces
Does the VDV even exist anymore lol
Does the black sea count as a vdv objective?
@@NotWorthTheAirIBreathe Another person who thinks "Ukraine is winning!" as Russian territory keeps growing on the map. I guess George Soros spent his money wisely with this one.
@@NotWorthTheAirIBreathe yes little ignorant😉
@@NotWorthTheAirIBreatheyes, they're burning Leopards and Bradleys every day, there are so many of them now that it gets boring
Sprut also translates into kraken, sounds a tad bit better imo
I really like how the 2S5M looks like and it seems like a pretty solid light tanks, too bad I have to sell my soul and spend the next year grinding Russia to get it.
It looks and feels great, I have it, but honestly just dont bother, I feel like it would take too much time for what it's worth, but I'll try to spade so I can use it with bvm and ka50 >:)
I’m glad I only have to grind the Obj 685 to get it now after several years of playing
I like how the moment you reach top tier the maps are now available in night time. Which is only so that you can use those 10th gen thermals or idk, i also leaves any night battle. Just give me the regular map with that fricking Sun bias shinning brighter than the missile heading my way.
Sun bias is the worst... Yet another example of bad game design.
Octopi are one of the coolest creatures on this little blue green backwater of ours
The things are damn near sentient, can fit and move through damn near anywhere, curious, adorable, strong, taste great, and are just overall so much cooler then a stingray
Taste great.
they also make for good hentai okay i'm sorry
The newer varients are light enough to be air dropped along with the VDV.
i dont like the 2S25 due to the BR its at, 9/10 team members leave after dying once which means you lose every time
That would go for your enemies too though.
Thats why I use it in my 11.0 lineup. Perfect for long-range engagements, 2nd gen gunner and commander thermals + good reverse speed. Scouting is also there for a bonus.
@@robertharris6092 Which is boring. One sided wins or loses are both extremely dull and avoidable with some effort from Gaijin.
YUP TURMS PLAYERS RUIN THE GAME
@Allah man Ive been on teams that were literally every single one was a turms
Babe wake up, new spookston light tank video
i love watching Spookston jumping up in fear from being shot even though hes been playing this game for years
apparently it's so underrated that I had never even heard about it wtf
"People like using Tanks with actual armor." In the experiences I've had, the armor is only there to slow the vehicle down and create spalling since no angle I've been hit at does anything but cause me to die.
Armor against non tanks : yes
Armor against weaker tanks IRL (tiger 2 vs sherman, etc) : yes
Armor against "balanced BR" tanks : nope
I mean, at 10.0 USSR you get the T-72B whose hull can stop 120mm DM33 (or around 480 mm of kinetic energy) and if you're very dedicated you can grind the T-72B (1989) that has kontakt 5 and thus can stop around 600 mm of kinetic energy, so it's pretty good armor for 10.0 granted you use it the correct way
well, speaking of the round, if it was actually accurate, the sd would actually have access to up to 3BM60. It would make for a pretty cool 10.7 vehicle I think if the sd had it
The original one?
Er well BM59 in the best it can fire
Octopus: Can change skin colour, mimic its sourroundings, hunts crabs, is very agile and is incredibly intelligent for its size.
Spooks: What a terrible name for a tank lmao.
Man why you hating on Octopus man they hella cool
But octopus is really smart, can change color and blend in the environment. They are really smart and unique creatures. Maybe this is why they chose the name. Who knows. lol
Edit: I can watch hours of your unedited gameplay with live commentary. Keep it up man and good luck.
Continuing the theme of soviet-Russian names of military equipment, do you want to know what the shell for an underbarrel grenade launcher is called?
Foundling
@@user-hm5zm9rs1r I know Russian and they have some weird and funny names.
@@levi_exiled8579 For example, a self-propelled flamethrower multiple launch rocket system that has no analogues?
But octopi, like Russian tanks, also have a very short lifespan.
@@NotWorthTheAirIBreathe ahahahahha yep
That intro was hilarious lmao
1:20 One cool aquatic name they used was Kasatka, or Killer whale for the KA-60
That's the main quirk of the Sprut though - it has no limits on the rounds that go into that gun. That's why it gets overcomplicated suspension and gets kinda costly.
The role is kinda special as well - it's basically an SPG in name only, since the bureau tasked with developing it wasn't allowed to make tanks. And this is an actual "expedition" tank, meant to retain it's swimming ability to bring the big gun into places that seem impossible to field one. Bogs, swamplands, tundra at summer, island jungles - that's it's jam.
It's also compatible with the longer shots, with one "little" caveat - can't use lower part of autoloader for loading these. That's why you need about 20 seconds to use svinets-2/lekalo/vacuum-1.
Damn shame project SOLOP was shelved. Rocket-assisted kinetic penetrator with 2.8 kmps speed at 800 meters - more than enough to make tungsten rod a self-sharpening one.
What's weird is irl situation of the vehicle. If I recall right, it's the third time the production plant incorporates feedback from the military and military just says nope, not buying anyway and comes up with some more outlandish request. Now they demand this turret on chassis of BMD-4. Considering the monetary constraints and recent/usual performance of russian military, you wouldn't expect them to be THAT picky. "Beggars can't be choosers"... unless you're russian army straight up trolling factory design bureau for over a decade.
U think that after the Armata debacle, they would have figured it out. But...this is Russia we're talking about.
I feel like if they had someone further west sit down with cuppa at his shop and comb through their vehicles, they could make something decent, but Russia is so fucking bad with the way it is. They have this decent gun, so they hamper it with dogshit deflection and a super shite ammo rack. The rubber band sized tracks also piss me off. Respect the vehicle with good ground resistances/traction, ffs. "Built for the steppes" is code word for "embezzlement within a money laundering business".
On a NATO spares shoe string budget I can ship over CV90 tracks/suspension, flop in a super common clapped out 8V92T (550 horsepower) engine which is PLENTY for the Sprut and has transmissions for minimum hassle mounting to a tank (see Stingray), butcher up the turret for clearances, and bespoke some gun laying drives. The wider track allows for more cleaner fit sponson composite and fender storage. Of course this is not complete without the 50cal on the roof and the NATO splash guard that adds frontal armor.
The factory that was making the 2S25 and then the 2S25M was dismantled. The factory where the production can be shifted to has a state order for 500 lighter vehicles to upgrade and started making a new workshop for those and they aren't even fully delivered + VDV BMD4s have priority so it's cleared but I have no idea who was going to even produce it. Cleared for production in Russian parliance could mean anything from Cleared to production to "alright field test these immature prototypes"
I can see why someone might name a tank "octopus", being deadly ambush predators whose squishy forms hide a wicked intelligence and deceptive strength.
But what gets me confused is why someone would name a vehicle designed for airborne infantry support after a reef-dwelling cephalopod. That's like naming a submarine _S.S.N. Fruit Bat_ .
Well, it can swim
"Most underrated light tank"
Gaijin: money 💲
Didn't you know translations for russian SPGs? They really did name them after flowers
Yep, for example 2S3 “Akatsiya” (Acacia) that we have in WT
Why I love Spookston’s videos:
1. No bullshit music
2. Straight to the point
3. No useless, lengthy intros
4. Doesn’t rage or scream like a baby
5. Doesn’t make cringey comments
Keep up the good shit Spookston!
6.will be good regardless what you give him, so hence could review any vehicle.
I feel sorry for the LAV-AD because it was stealth nerfed like 6 months ago and when I say nerfed I mean hit with a 100 tone hammer level nerf, it lost 30% of it's penetration.
Yo what i didnt know that
Octopus: what did i do to you?!
I like Spook's new content model:
play a vehicle while talking about it, drop random hot takes throughout the breaks in conversation
Sure the things soft and squishy, but it has one hell of a punch. It also requires intelligence to use, something the octopus has in spades for what it is.
Nice choice of music general
1:30 there's your HSTVL cameo, take a shot!
With that breakdown on what an octopus is, maybe you missed your natural calling as wildlife narrator.
The gun elevation speed kills it for me especially stock, it gets me killed almost every time. I'm sitting there waiting 5 minutes for my 1.7d/s gun to move down 3cm and then die.
The sound on that gun is amazing. Other tanks youve had in these vids sound like nail guns and staplers...
The russian 10.0 lineup has become my favorite recently. All the 9.7 tanks can easily be used as backups and tbh its all around fun
I like the first sprut a little more ...mostly for climbing because it makes more horsepower at a lower RPM but this getting the machinegun up top and thermals makes it better tho it makes less power
Yeah there was a lot purchases and it being the only tank class that has a remote controlled commanders periscope with Gen 2 thermals

Bro your intro 😂😂 I love it
2S25M also have a brother as well, i think it's call Dragun 125, base on BMP-3 chassis.
It's equip with ERA and hard kill APS. i might wrong but also i see 57mm auto-loader on bmp chassis too.
Well that was just an idea that may or may not have been done irl
0:53 thanks for cutting the damage part
Tiger : cool name, like it.
HSTV-L : I love this name
Meanwhile : Octopus.
The Sprut was part of new vehicle package for their Airborne Forces since the one they have currently active in service BMD 2 / 3 are not able to defeat MBT's except if they got new turret/ATGM package.
The reason behind it was the Airborne to be able to have light, air deployed and mobile platform with 125mm gun potent enough to deal with any armored threads.
Also on the same platform ( BMD 3 hull ) they have created and mobile mortar - 2S42 - Lotus
- Mobile SAM - Ptiselov
- Tank Killer with Kornet ATGM
- Troop Carrier
Pticelov. Bird catcher.
i can confidently say a good reason people say the HSTV-L is hard to kill, is because they can't aim
people try to aim for turret cheek (even though it's one of the harder parts to hit minus the tiger 2 P) even with APHE, the hull is the best place to aim, especially in the ammo
It's because you hit its shitty armor perfectly and the round just randomly ricochets in to the space or get shattered.
"octopus have like 8 legs" the more unhinged these videos get the better
honestly I like night maps and would like to start seeing them again.
People say the HSTVL is hard to kill cuz they always react faster than they process, and aim for the turret ring area since they can usually get a kill that way. Shooting the HSTVL there might take out the turret ring and that's it, so against the common point click top br player, it has a decent chance of coming out the winner of a snapshot encounter
It an also disable people's gun and tracks really easily
Last time i seen one it bounced my merkava3 shot from front plate at same ground level
Yeah it's just genuinely hard to kill. Its UFP bounces 3BM60 at an even slightly bad angle and it can take multiple side shots without dying.
“Gelatinous and soft” I guess you could call it an OCTAPUSSY
The octopus is one of the coolest animals in existance though.
the intro was hilarious lol
The 2S25M isn't bad. It is just sitting at BR where 90%-95% of your team are turrms which pretty much automatically loose your battle. Other way, i would like to see you play Italy Ariete tanks.
that intro was priceless ahah
Lol the opening of this video was funny
ooh I'd love to see you on the AMX 10RC and your opinion on it especially seing gaijin pushing for ever smaller maps
as a USSR main this thing is worth it just for the mobility, jesus does it feel good after using the T-72s etc
True that. Reverse speed and low profile turret allows that shoot and scoot that makes all the nato stuff effective. Played right one can can engage and disengage at will. Spotting helps too
Sprut in russian sounds really cool though, concise and very agressive. A sprut is the type of octopus to drag you down into the depths and suffocate you with it's tentacles. We have a word for cute/normal octupi: osminog, which is lamer, but reading it in english just now made it so cool lol wth.
This is also one of the only Russian tank with commander thermals and it's gen 2 or 3, even tho they had shown thermals on the t80u when commander thermals came into the game
early spawn camp is a fast ticket for entire enemies team to quit and u barely get any silver lion and research point than a good long match
Awesome video 🥰
Soviet spgs named after plants are & will always be my fav. Idk why but it does sound very terrifying & gentle at the same time such as Carnation, Acacia & Hyacinth.
Been asking myself why I’ve seen so few spruts in game when it looks like such a good vehicle on paper.
bro cmon you gotta let the clip go on long enough to see the spall on the xray cam, its so satisfying.... something something edgi-
That dude using a Jumbo at top tier is a hero
some news about the sprut, this week it has finished state trials
Every time the gun fires it sounds like the “vine thud effect”
I lost it when you described octopi as gelatinous
it's pretty underrated IRL too
The 2s3m is pretty fun to play with the heat it gets
It looks like a Sheridan that has an Armata turret on it.
besides it having no armor it kicks ass, the pneumatic suspension can be very helpfull
edit: the sprut is in service since 2004, the airborn troops got like around 32 of them in service
The 2S25 is technically in service, but idk about the 2S25M
the base 2S25 is fun...
Spookston definetely has a vendetta against octopuses
Lol nice intro it got me, plus it's actually true
2:49 "What the heck is that?"
*obliterates a small child*
AHHH GOOD OL GAIJIN'D @ 4:21 you hate to see it
the spurt in 9.3 has 70km/h IN REVERSE
damm
I love the sprut, it bring me memories from bf3 days
wtf
I didn't knew what it's name meant, it sounds sick af
The octopus/kraken , fast, agile and can get into and out of anywhere quickly.
Do we need to mention the fact that due to your amazing skills in war thunder no matter what you play is a great tank
You should do a video over the Chinese wma. It's one of my favorite premiums and is absolutely OP
May I ask you what are your graphic settings? The game looks sharp and have a really good quality
I'm surprised as video didn't include any scenes of you being easily killed by fast moving tank with an autocannon
I will not tolerate any of this octopus slander, Spookston...
I have a blast with the Sprut. It gets 3BM46 with great mobility and great thermals.
Sprut actually means Kraken, not just an octopus
sprut being 10.0 and hstvl at 11.3 blows my mind.
When the era plates on a t72 or t80 block a point-blank side shot from an abrams apfsds something is broken with russian mbts.
1:28 honestly I get it yo, octopus are smart as fuck and can camouflage themselves good too so I think those are good traits to name it for
2:34 hey Spookston! Im pretty sure I was in this map with you, I was in an m18 that got slaughtered by a t-72 turms t
