Nice truck. Just reminded my son this morning "you take care of your car, it'll take care of you". He called (uh oh), but just wanted a little review of checking the fluid levels before a trip. That was a welcomed call.
Nice Autocar!.. 58K Rears!... Sweet Jeezus!... I still have my 1969 R-686 Mack Tractor on the Road.... She is a good old girl.... The paint on it it starting to show it's age, but other than that, she is in pretty good shape... Hot, Cold, Rain, Snow, Whatever... I hit that Key Switch and she fires off every time.... It had the Walking Beam 58K Hendrickson Suspension under it...That daggone Truck would totally wear a strong, healthy man out in 8-10 Hours... At the end of the day I could barelty stand on my own... I literally felt like someone worked on me with a daggone Ball Bat!!...All you did in that Old Truck was Sweat, Get Bounced and Beat Around, and Shift Gears... Shift A Lot of Gears... You could skip some of them but most of the time you would end up getting lost and have to start over on your Main Box.... No Air Conditioning, Terrible Power Steering.... I remember backing in to Dump off a Load and having to open the Driver's Door, take the Chain off the Tailgate Release Lever with the Tip of my Boot, Then basically stomp down as hard as i could to get it to release... Then when the Bed was on It's way back down, I would stop it short so i could lift that Lever back up and put the Chain back on.... What a pain... Whoever invented the Air Release Gate Mechanism is my Hero!... Haha!
I'm 55 now..but drove one from lititz pa to Bethlehem pa for cement pulling a butler dry bulk tank...when I was in my mid 20,s..needed a kidney belt. It had a Eaton fuller double over 10 speed.
A trucking company in Chatham On. had a 63 Autocar with the butterfly wings hood on it. The motor was a 290 Cummins with a 10 speed road ranger behind. Fastest thing on the highway in its time.
@@mikep1085 Great idea, this interview was taken at a truck show so everyone was parked. I plan to get more content like that in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.
I worked for a company in Kentucky that serviced oil refineries. They had a fleet of AutoCar trucks fitted with massive vacuum beds for sucking out catalyst reactors. All 1970' and 80's models. Super tough and reliable but rode so stiff your fillings would shake loose from your teeth.

Ole dude has the truck of all trucks…… you don’t see many of those steel fendered A-Cars with the front axel right behind the bumper, until the name was being made to catch up with partner brands like White, White Western Star and Diamond Reo or maybe by then it was just Reo? (My rememberator is hitting only on a handfull of sparks these days) My relatives had one from the late 50’s/early 60’s with a butterfly hood and a 262 Cummings with a 4 and a 4 trannys.
I didn't hear him say the model but it looks like a DK64. The DK stands for dog killer as this was meant to compete with the Mack that has the bulldog mascot. I've sold a bunch of parts for trucks like this.

Badass truck Sir! I'd like to report a truck driver who's been endangering my life, you can't beat me on the grade, you can't beat me on the grade!_ David Mann Duel
Don't know if you knew what they meant. You still used the foot pedal to drive but you had a separate hand throttle on the dash that you would twist out when you were operating a PTO or running fast idle. You had to wait until the air compressure would shut down or it would over Rev. Some drivers would use it as a cruise control. It was replaced by an air throttle and now an electric computer controlled switch.
to bump the throttle when you need to yes. all diesels have them, but newer trucks you turn the cruise control on and hit the resume button til it hits the desired rpm. You never let a diesel idle when ditting. always bump to 1k rpm
...3406 with a 5 ann'a 4..... That's 20 forward gears with a 'double under' 😮😮😮 Yep. The good old days! 😛😛😛 (that's what we learned on!) Old vs new... nothing beats new stuff EXCEPT all the emission crap. Pure evil. Been driving and working on trux since '77... The new stuff is, quiet, runs strong, comfortable, air ride now is almost standard... ride like a dream compared to lets say a White "velvet ride" or Hendrickson.... anyways, new stuff is full of safety and emission crap that makes for a miserable day... I have a new Pete 579 Paccar and automated. Junk in my opinion. BUT quiet and rides pretty nice... gimme a 13 sp manual and zero emission and safety sh*t and it'd be a nice truck...
Where would you take this truck, and what would you haul?
