Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my RUclips channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!

Dude... your biggest advantage is knowing many brands and models. TELL US ABOUT PERFORMANCE! You know...the stuff about keels and sail plans. Include performance in these boat reviews (I'm pretty certain it will benefit you substantially).

You are the first expert I've heard to praise an in-mast furler. I heard those fail all the time and are beloved by boat repair shops for that reason.

I' d love to get out there , but I 'm stuck with buying around $ 50,000 or selling my house and only having basic sailing knowledge+ aging is catching me. I have been schooled about " dumpsters " by your videos and 1 person. I was told recently that not buying yet is probably a blessing. I like marinas from time to time- unlimited hot water, laundry, bars & restaurants, street food, meet & greet people!! Boat brokers seem similar to used car salespeople

I’m way to poor to ever own a sail boat but I love listening to these videos while I work just for the voice 😂 and the insults towards brokers and trash can boats

I live on the shallow Chesapeake Bay. It looks like I have two options. A Prout catamaran or a Southerly sailboat with a swing keel. I wish I had a lot of options to chose from but I don’t.

Great video, Chris. Can you give us an idea of the slip rental costs for 30, 40, 50 ft boats? Or what the multiple is for each increasing bracket. I'm currently leaning towards an Amel 54 for cruising primarily in SE Asia & Oceania.

Thing you don't talk about that is very important is draft! That's major depending on your sailing goals. Much more important that low vs loa

Chris, really like your style! - calling a trash can a trash can. I bought a great older boat which the PO spent thousands and thousands on, and guess what I am still spending money on it. Anyway, I noticed you did not mention the used Charter boat market - are they all gone by this time? That's where I am looking and I was hoping (after a few weeks) to see that the prices were still going down even just a little bit more. Waiting until year-end 2024 to catch another low. Thanks and keep up the fire!

Id love you to do a video of sailboats you would buy that are built 1985 to 1999 (insurable but older). Maybe 50k to 100k.. live aboards.. please!

In all honesty I wouldn't buy anything from that vintage due to the age and lifespan of things on a vessel, those will all be considerably more in the long run due to upkeep. If it were me I would save for another however long in order to go newer.

What would you recommend for those of us in the Great Lakes? It seems like the boats in this region on YachtWorld are really overpriced, ancient, or trash.

Chris, I was just wondering if you were ever going to start giving us your candid view on whether or not you actually like a particular boat? I mean, really, stop holding back. Just give us your blunt opinion.

How can you sail that many miles per year? Thats over 50 miles per day 365 days per year.
Also I thought the LWL should be close to the LOA. Why did you like the last beneteau when they are not even close? I'm confused

Not hard to figure. Sailboats average 4+-6knots, 5-7 mph, 24 hours a day, is 120 miles per day at the slow speed. Get a good cruise at 7knots you are covering almost 200 miles per day or even faster

I am a delivery capt, my job is to get vessels as fast as possible from A to B. I do at minimum one delivery per month as filed here on my channel. My deliveries average 2000 NM each, thats 24000 NM a year. A 2000 NM delivery takes me on average 14 days. You will be able to see my next delivery as well on this channel. I will be picking up a vessel in Grenada and sailing to Aruba, then bonair and onto St lucia where I will pick up another vessel and sail from St lucia to Barbados, Martinique, Dominica, St kitts, St coix, St Thomas, Culubra, and then onto PR. My job is sailing and has been for decades ;)
