My website and articles www.chasinglatitudes.com
Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my RUclips channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!
It's not Granada it's Grenada. Pronounced grenade ah. I'm here in Grenada right now in anticipation of Sailing Week racing on a Leopard 47
Yup!! Gren-Nay-Dah.... At least that's how it's pronounced in Grenada, where English is the official language. You are pronouncing it in Spanish..... Google is fine, but not always to be trusted.... you ding-dong!!!
You are right, Chris is...I don't know...misinformed? It's gre-NAY-dah. Duh.
It always amuses me to hear our transatlantic cousins struggling with the English language.
It's Gren(AID)A
Not sure what language pronounces gren that way. Maybe French? Not English or Spanish. Otherwise, it is a good enough plan to buy where you are going to sail. The downside or at least a consideration is fixing a boat and getting parts is rough. This is compounded if you don't speak the local language well.
It's Spanish morphed into French.
Named after the city Granada (Grah-nah-dah) in southern Spain, the island was originally named Concepcion by Cristopher Columbus during his third trip. Somehow (the background is vague), it got renamed Granada, after the city.
Then the French arrived, and named it La Grenada, a name that sticks around in its neighbors, The Grenadines.
Finally, in 1794, the English took possession, maintaining control until 1958. English became the official language, and in English La Grenada, became Grenada, pronounced the same as one would the thrown explosive.
And now you know the rest of the story :)
Im comfortable being a patron of Lady K
Your disparaging comments dont make you sound better
AGREE. I follow a few sailing channels. Lady K is one I always catch. I've been sailing all my life. I don't know it all, but I know a bit. I scratch my head more times on this channel than many of the others. I guess it is a style, but with this video, I've had enough of it. Never looks good for an expert to be slinging mud all over the place.
Always look forward to your vids. Feedback: Your sales pitch at the end of your vids is getting to long.
How do I buy a boat down there and avoid taxes if I’m Canadian?
The looking up the mast shot is the "live laugh love" sign of boat sales.
English from England is Proper English the rest therefore would be something else
That checks out
6:31 if you’re sailing consistently how long would that trip take on average?
Funny, all these sailboat channels and only one that I don’t watch. Not sure why but not a fan of Kay. I’ve never made it through one of the videos 😂😂 guess I was right thinking he was talking a bit above his actual knowledge.
You love that vagabond channel, don’t you? Lololol they quit didn’t they?
I respect the fuck out of you and your lack of "me,me,me" but you should have another channel or Even thisbone vlogging your journey on these boats, you can talk about each boat your on. Why it's good bad ect. As well as for those of us who want to have the same job it would great insight.
I do them on here sometimes
Thanks. Very interesting. But please don't criticise other peoples pronunciation. In the UK we pronounce both different to you and it could be argued that Granada and Caribbean should be pronounced the UK way rather than the US as you do. Also please avoid my pet hate, the unnecessary use of "literally" overused, particularly by the teens, when there is no doubt that your head "metaphorically" exploded, not literally.
fair enough
I hear a lot of US east coast folks pronounce it that way (right or wrong) too. Seems a bit petty.....
I think this emphasis was done for comedic effect-or affect, and to literally annoy those who obsess over Oxford commas and grammatically accurate statements on RUclips videos where the occasional errors are made even within run-on statements made in comment sections, this is usually done to belittle someone else to make one appear bigger or better than others. Then again I could be wrong-maybe it just literally annoys him to no end. either way it’s his channel and no one is forced to watch it. 😊 this is supposed to be fun
Ah fk Brits bro! They speak kinda funny anyways 🤣
You do you homie!!! 💪🏻🔥
@@ChasingLatitudesbrits just be wrong
Do you have go through customs / ports of entry when moving between carribean countries ?
Yes
Really enjoyed being informed by this content… great logical presentation concerning buying in Grenada and island hoping the way north… makes sense
OMG, this is so funny if you’re really high and watch it at 1.25 speed… It’s Gr Naaaaa Daaaaa………..
Did you pronounce Dominica correctly?
6:15 kew-lay-bra, gaaaah! These people that can't pronounce names...😂
Buy some pants Chris and come to Lake Michigan in July.
Great info. I got it installed and also found kmz files from the NWS to overlay marine advisories. I screwed up and posted this on the wrong vid!
Thanks!
Excellent! Thank you so much
I'm buying my first boat in September. I will be using Chris to help me purchase and register the boat. Just this video alone just made me aware of the tax breaks and already potentially saved me thousands. Talk soon,Chris 😊
I grew up in st.Lucia and we call it “granayda”
Funny note, you bashed Grenada pronunciation and whiffed on pronouncing "Culebra". Proof that we pay attention to your content ;)
@@commontater4920 fair enough I'll take that L
Another great video!
Best sailing youtuber hands down. Finally a no bullshit kind of guy
Excellent info, sir.
Great advice and bloody funny to boot. 😎👍
Learn to pronounce DomiNICa
Go back to lady k poser
Things haven't been this HOT
since JEFF got dunked on.
DAMN!
What is it like getting parts in Grenada? No, I'm not talking about doing a full refit in Grenada. I'm talking about things like oil filters, fuel filters, ship batteries, a Volvo Penta alternator... Things that might pop up on a survey and need to be fixed before sailing.
😂😂😂😂😂
Wow….example of the ‘dog eat dog’ world of sailboat sales and consulting…..pinch of salt required for most of the video…..ps locals disagree with USA way to say the name of their homeland!😊
Looking forward to sailing with you
repair boats can be fine, but beware boats repaired from hurricane damage because the folks doing the repairs are flooded with work all at once and are in a rush. shoddy repairs are a real thing. especially for charter companies. it can be handled, but takes some extra work. a boat repaired from an everyday grounding not right after a hurricane is less risky.
Just found this today, July 4th. Unfortunately buying a boat in Grenada is now a bad idea.
Funny that people from Grenada pronounce it GrenAYda. How dare they decide how to pronounce the name of their own country?
great success
Let me guess, your buddy, lady K. L O L.😎👍
What cost (estimate) would you say it would cost to sail a 50ft beneteau from caribean to Perth Australia?
If one is an Australian citizen, and buy a boat in caribean, can one register the boat somewhere else and thus cut down on tax / vat?
WOO HOO!
Nice little friendly jab at Elena 😂 I was thinking something similar when I saw the tour. 😆 You always keep people informed and entertained! Keep it up
Idk about friendly LOL
You crack me up! Thanks for the information.
Appreciated as always
Much appreciated
Enjoyed the video-- great real info. .
Can I ask where would be the most cost effective location in the Caribbean to leave/store a say a 38 ft yacht when your not actually there sailing?
Grenada
So could you not buy a boat cheap in Grenada, and sell it in USA for a profit? 🤔
You would have to pay the duty and taxes first.
Chris, do you have website or any other place to see your resume of delivery captain besides here?
Not really, I am in a position, where I don't have to solicit for work , I wont take random for hire deliveries any more and I only help people who ive worked with finding them a vessel.
Liked, subbed, bought the book
Youre a riot Chris! Thanks!
Ronald Reagan pronounced it Grenayda
He was correct. I find it hard to believe that Chris has actually been there. Native Grenadians would correct him immediately.
What is the sailboat in the b role with the large windows? Deck saloon?
Nvm moody 41 ds
@@nathanlief Yeah, it's a very interesting boat. I think the b-role may be the Moody 45. The Sirius line has a similar true 'deck saloon' look.
Also how do we get ahold of you?

Why not Cuba?

and hot chicas!@@doodlegassum6959
You need special permits and permission.
You taking questions?
What can I help you with
Heard you ragging on island packets last week, is that because they are full keel or are they especially bad full keels?
Also curious about this
Just overpriced for the value
This plan only works for the rich. The trip back to the states will cost 30k and that’s not paying a captain. If you’re married the trip will end your marriage. Basically if you don’t have 100k minimum for the boat and another 30k to get boat back… There is a ton of boats there and they are less money but once the rest of costs are added.
Uh what? I deliver boats all the time up to the states for a fraction of that cost
I helped a friend bring a boat back from the BVI. Not as far down the chain as Grenada, but nonetheless it was much less than that. If the boat isn't registered in the US, there can be additional expenses, but if you find one that is, it can be a good deal. He made a nice profit when he sold the boat.
It is easy and fun to sail from the Eastern Caribbean to the US. It is all downhill. Going there is different. It is called the "Thorny Path".
