      Gin and Tonic works brilliantly tbh. 👍eta, its the Quinine in the Undian Tonic Water. the Chindits were given it in bulk when fighting behind Japanese Lines in the Jungle. My next door neighbour's Dad was a Chindit Surgeon. After WW2, and back as a Hospital Surgeon, he stuck with a half bottle of Gin to about two litres of Tonic per day, valong with Cigarettes (Nicotine kills parasites, Bacteria and viruses) and Teddy was still as fit as a fiddle, when he was in his 90's when I last saw him. Royal Navy Officers Pink Gin kept them fit too, same for the Rum Ration. 👍

      @@SailingGently In the industry, it is expected that scam companies pay a few claims to ensure they are not totally labeled as denying all claims. They will pay just enough claims to make them look legit. The bottom line is Ion, the underwriter, is not rated. This means you have no earthly idea if they have funds to pay a large claim, or not. There is no way to verify. Also, Ion is 2 shell companies upon which all the EW policies are written, American Somoa and Costa Rica. All policies they sell are governed by the laws of one of these 2 countries. You need to ask yourself why it is they do this. You get a gold star if you think it is because it makes them darn hard to sue if they deny a claim.

      @@MrMarkandMsCindy That is fascinating Mark and frankly you confirm my suspicions. I was desperate to find insurance when ORM became so impossible and expensive that in order to confirm my marina place which required proof of insurance I took on a policy of which I had serious doubts. Now EW appears to have changed ownership and moved to the USA it appears the use of 'get out' clauses is their way of avoiding major claims!

They will drain a 20 amp hour power bank over night as they are about half a small fridge. So when away from the marina the spray and cream are probably better. @@SailingGently This will make you laugh, getting home in a blizzard, 300 yds from home, this about 1992 ish.as I left the shelter of the forest onto the open hilltop, the car got buried in about a 10ft Snow Snow Drift. Literally 300 yards from the gate to the entrance to my place, and wearing pretty good clothing under an ex Berman Army Parka, I thought no problem, got to the other side of that drift, got through another about the same size, and the wind chill and strain of pushing through the snow was doing me in. Half way through the next Drift I collapsed into it, and just being out of that wind was absolute bliss. I was just dropping off to sleep and a thought hit me - Hang on, If I stay here, I’m going to freeze to death, but it was so nice in there, I didn’t really care. So I Managed to break out of the other side, Blizzard still going Crazy, but the next drift was only about 6 feet, the one after 5 feet, and a couple of even shorter ones and I was in the shelter of the Beech Trees around my place. Problem, my hands were so cold, I couldn’t even feel the door keys in my pocket, and it took about another half an hour before I could get the door open. Then Light the Morso Squirrel, with some South African Petro Coke, and put the kettle on.I’ve Never Been able to tolerate the cold ever since. Hence my need to get to the Caribbean. I can understand why when it was their time, the Native Americans would go out into the Snow, and get into a Snowdrift to Die now though. It has to be one of the nicest ways to cross over. I didn’t expect that.Bob.🤔🌟🌟🌟❤️

    Greetings from BsM. Bit of an update for you. Very soon Starlink version3 is about to be released in Europe. Big difference is that the dish comes in two versions motorised and flat without any motor. This the residential version not some esoteric super yacht item. This cuts the power consumption down to manageable levels. The whole contraption actually runs on 12 and 48 volts and I recommend searching for an Australian chap on YT who demonstrates a bypass box for the router, which is mainly a mains powered power supply, with a 12 volt box. Couple this with a soon to be no motor dish with the snow heater disabled and power suddenly becomes manageable, certainly with Lith batteries. P.S, its -5C here in the marina…but at least we don’t have any mozies!

    • @SailingGently
      @SailingGently  5 месяцев назад

      Just finished anointing myself with post bite gel!! Looking round the marina here at least 10% of the resident boats have some form of starlink and I'm sure it's the future... maybe to the virtual exclusion of all other systems! Not sure what the traffic capacity of their satellites are. However at this moment in time your router-simply system is a far better investment for someone in a boat

Mine is a lot bigger than the one you bulkhead mounted, that you can take it ashore looks great, and the cost for a 100 gigabyte SIM looks brilliant plus the router cost great value, so the important question is what Download and Upload Bandwidth are you getting as throughput with it ? As I may leave my monster router here, as a lesser performance would be perfectly acceptable frankly. Bob. 🤔

      Hi Michael , I’ve been looking into these M7350 routers the last few hours and they are really excellent, and only really lack an external antenna socket.For perspective, mine cost well over £100 more than one of these, and I have confirmed that with an external Power Bank and a USB to Micro USB cable plugged in, you can massively extend the hours of use say a 16,000 mah one (not expensive) you should be able to get about eight times as long as the 2,000 mah they come supplied with, and I haven’t seen any reports of them having poor reception if you are getting good signal for a obile phone. There is another TP Link Model, the M700 if I remember correctly which is available here for around £40 and I may grab one to compare, though it is a bit lacking compared to the other one, it may still be a great one to have as the performance appears to be about the same. I was providing TP Link Home Network Routers when I was still building Custom Computers, as they were great value and very reliable, so it’s not a brand I’m unfamiliar with. Thanks for the insights into this model, as well as that very useful sounding Caribbean Mobile Network provider with broad Caribbean Coverage If you are streaming Netflix and Prime, then that confirms enough Bandwidth for me personally as being in line with all I need. I agree that Starlink isn’t ready yet, but 4G LTE should always be able to significantly undercut them on Price I used to be a very big consumer of Data, from Updating the Software, Drivers, and operating systems of new Computers - when I started, it used to take a full week doing the updates per computer believe it or not, plus Testing Software for Microsoft and others, plus as a Computer Games Tester to keep an eye on AI research and development when it switched from Sussex University into Computer Games in the 1970’s. So when on a boat now, I like to turn it off tbh.Best Wishes. Bob.🤔🌟🌟🌟👍
