Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my RUclips channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!
There are some good honest reviews out there on RUclips from people who have actually purchased X-Charter boats and well worth watching if you are considering buying one of these - you will gain some invaluable information
I have dealt with around 60 in the last three years for clients and sailed them all, I've got a bit more experience than the novice RUclips sailor who has purchased only one
I hear you Chris and absolutely love good value especially with a depreciating asset.
I bought and paid $60,000 more for a 5 year old boat with just 60 hours on the engine. Sails are still crisp and the code zero never even used.
I decided to pay the extra as it’s a one owner, fresh water boat that was reasonably close for me to drive to, have shipped to me at a predictable cost. I wanted the newest or closest to new condition fresh water boat I could afford. Everything I need and nothing I don’t as in the Great Lakes we don’t need compressors, A/C, water makers etc. all shit that won’t be used and will break. Our boats are only in the water 5. Months of the year also and yacht clubs are seasonal and about $5500 a year to be a full member with a 36 ft vessel.
The boat I bought is sail ready, needs nothing and shouldn’t need much for a decade or more. I like that and feel like I know what I’m getting. Yes paying more up front for convenience and the new boat feel/predictable future.
It's all a dream, no hope, no freedom just potatoes.
Great video! So now you have me thinking charters again. At least you can get a loan for these newer boats.
Saving my money for that ex-charter 2018 or newer.⛵
Agree with you on deal on ex charter boat. They are real deals. Not pleasant to deal with charter company but it is worth it. Very low use during Covid years. If I was looking for a monohull, Beneteau 45 would be my boat but I like catamaran. Cat are better to live on. We are in a weird time. Some seller are still dreaming about getting covid time price but it is too late. Lots of boat are sitting on the market for a long time. I have not seen charter company lowering their prices like the are doing now.
The SO389 from Georgia is an additional $115k, but it has: bow thruster, self tacking jib, outboard, in mast furling and electric winch, and 1100 fewer engine hours. Also located in the U.S. Help us value these extras features. How much should this boat cost?
Bownl thruster 10k, in mast 20k, electric winch 7k, self tacking 5k , less engine hours not a huge added cost as they last forever, so let's call it 50k , still putting it 65k over, and if went the charter one all that gear would be new if you invested in it. Just things to consider
Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks a lot for this video!! I couldn't see any specific comparisons with respect to engine time, sail wear and tear, rigging, and hull time. I have no idea what that's worth? Could that account for the drastic price variations? Thanks again!
As mentioned in the video all the ex charters go through an extensive phase out , engine hours will generally be higher than private vessel but in no way can it make up for the difference in prices. Ex charters are by far the best deal on the market currently
Odd question here maybe.... What in the world keeps the boats from getting stolen?
I spoke with moorings on Friday. currently the phase out is taking at least 6 months, and likely closer to 1 year. so, while the pricing is good, you had better be prepared to wait a long time.
I'd be fine with waiting based on the savings invoked
Question, why is that jenny on your newest vid so cheap for 115 where everything comparable, even with Moorings is so much more expensive? I am very interested in purchasing that specific ex-charter. I sent a request for more details two days ago. Should I fly down there asap?
How did this work out?
The comparision vessel had in-mast furling. But what would that upgrade cost?
This 38.9 is in Roadtown? That is a good price!!!!! Add taxes and what other fees will there be ? .
Maybe he gold plated it lol Thanks for your good work.
I clearly need to get a way to make more money xD
Me too
Sorry I missed you. What time and time zone do you work off of? I travel for work and am always an hour ahead or behind.
I am in the Caribbean, east coast time currently, it will change with daylight savings as we don't have that here in the Caribbean , but its currently same as new York
Thanks
