- The "OG" Legend restoration is up and running. After two months, it is running and driving reliably. The next phase will dive into some cosmetic updates for this car that may be one of the oldest surviving Acuras in existence today. It was built June 1986 in Sayama, Japan and lived its entire life in California under one owner until 2023. It still has just under 100,000 miles on the odometer. More to come. Thanks for tuning in!

The patience it takes to go through this car by car is insane. Hats off my friend.
Haha yes I haven’t gotten tired of this process yet
Oh man! You just reminded me of a 25+ year memory of struggling to get the inside of my Legend wheels clean. Love the updates on this one.
Haha yep. Toothbrush is sometimes the way to go with those!
Love these resto projects of yours and all the comments you receive about vehicle memories. Keep up the great work my friend!
Thanks Ian!! :)
Great video as always. Isn’t it satisfying to receive new parts. Maybe it’s just me but I get excited when I get my parts to replace old worn out stuff.
I agree on the new parts thing!
You are my favorite Honda/Acura channel! I really enjoy your videos. I love your historic, preservationist, originality. I also think likewise.
Wow, thank you!
Love the 1986 mix tape! I got the original tape deck in my 85 working, needed a belt. Keep up the great video and Honda/Acura love. I have far fewer than you but love these cars as well!
Thank you!
Very cool to see the old Legend coming back to life. Good to see those old tires get replaced - I would have been driving about 5 mph to the tire shop. 🤣
Also… nice choice of music! (It’s the same song I used on my 200k rollover video - good stuff)
I'm running out of options with the free RUclips library!
The plates and stickers look great. Thanks for the shoutout. 😊
Hey you bet :)
Titlemax employees - "who's that strange guy filming inside here while holding up old Acura sales papers?" HAHA. Nice detailed video, Tyson!
Pretty much! Haha. And thanks!
What a beauty! I’d love to have one Of those. Not picky about colour , just rust free and super clean like that one :)
Thanks Charles
Your 86 Legend looks bread new car again, that’s amazing! You did a great job to do the car details for cleaning outside and inside. Great video! 👍🏼
Still needs a lot of work, but it's getting there! Thank you! :)
A wonderful bookend for your Legend collection!
I think so too!
What a beautifull Legend! And in your hands it becomes even better. I like these Legends so much. But due to the wetter and salt over here in Europe they have completely disappeared from our roads.
Yes even here they are starting to become quite rare!
Thanks for the inspiration. I picked up a 1998 accord with 92k about a year aga and have been slowly bringing it back to show room conditions. I still have paint and bodywork to go but the tan interior is like new and we have gone through the brakes, tires, and motor mounts so far. Amazing how many of these great little cars get tossed aside as soon as something small and fixable goes wrong.
Agreed, there are plenty of challenges with fixing up these cars but the driving experience is worth it.
Fantastic progress! Looking pretty darned great already!
Getting there :)
Your commitment to restore these older Acura's is amazing! Hats off sir!
Thank you sir!
Having stepped out of the 'old car' scene now, I don't miss the part finding mission or finding the knowledge of who's left around to perform certain maintenance items. It's fun watching someone else go through that grief online instead, so keep up the work Tyson!
Haha, you bet Adam! Thanks for tuning in.
Great to see how this one is coming along, and interesting to hear how you're sourcing parts. Take care bud!
More to come! Nice hearing from you!
Nice ride, I graduated college that year and a family freind had an Integra from later in the 80s . Good luck with the resto
Thank you!
Well done. In my practice, searching for spare parts for models of all markets is a common practice. The parts are usually the same, but have different part numbers for the European, American and Asian markets. So I have a lower ball joint from an American model, because the European one does not have a separate part number, only assembled with an arm, the transmission cushion is from Japanese model because it is cheaper, and so on.
I know where one dislike comes from. Don't be upset, it's not because of your wonderful blog. This is due to the Ajusa gasket.
Haha, good to know. And I know a lot of people can relate to the parts hunt!
Always intriguing content.
Thank you!
So awesome, glad to see you are making such good progress! Great tip on the O rings too by the way, I've found quite a few discontinued O rings for my newly acquired G1 coupe such as the ones under the breather cover on the front valve cover and other projects just by doing a Google search for the size. While parts availability is sometimes a challenge, I've actually found that it's surprisingly good for the age and rarity of these cars, especially common maintenance and replacement parts.
The O-ring saga isn't over yet, apparently there are different materials of rings based on whether they are being installed in brake fluid vs. motor oil environments. So I might be swapping out the ring for one that won't deteriorate in brake fluid.
@@TysonHugie Good point, I somehow missed the part about the O ring being for the clutch line. I know oil will damage brake fluid seals, but I'm not sure whether brake fluid damages oil seals.
I had an 89 coupe and can attest that mine had gauge cluster issues when I bought it. Speaking of the tach anyway. That's how I got mine so cheap! The Temp\fuel part showed wrong. It showed that the temp was pegged to hot and showed it was almost full on gas. It ended up not being over heated and was completely out of gas. 😂. I got really lucky! It was my first car and I loved every minute of it even being the beater that it was.
Haha yep, def have some bugs to work out still!
Your parts search I can sympathize with. Anyone owning an old car like me and you knows you have to be persistent in your search. Reminds me of my days working in parts. You'll find that part numbers get superseded and can change multiple times over the years. We'd have to leave no stone unturned to find parts for a customer. I love the 80's Acura's thanks for the update Tyson!
Thanks for watching!
Love these videos 😊
Thank you!
Nice!
Thank you!
Great update. I thought the Acura training video clip was a neat addition in your video.
I couldn't resist adding that!
Finding parts for a G-1 keeps me from owning one of these but I love the simplicity of the look better than my G2 sedan. Perhaps I'll buy one just to have then pass on to another steward. Love the video as I do anything you post. Thank You.
Thank you, I appreciate that! Glad you can relate to the level of detail.
Tyson, I see that you are into old dealerships like me. Im a Honda and Toyota enthusiast. Love Acuras and Lexus' as well. I wanna share with you an old Acura dealership that use to be in Columbus, GA. It was called Ken Thomas Acura BMW. It is now called Acura BMW of Columbus. My uncle still owns his black on black '95 Acura Legend LS sedan. He bought it new from Ken Thomas back in December of '94.
That's amazing! Would love to learn more about Ken Thomas Acura BMW. And your uncle's car!
@@TysonHugie Ken Thomas Acura was one of the first Acura dealers in the Southeastern USA. The dealer opened in 1989. It use to be located on Veterans Pkwy in Columbus, GA. Before Ken Thomas dealership was built, all Acuras were sold at Sport and Imports which was a dealer that specialized in Euro imports. Every 90s and 00s Acura that was seen in the Columbus, GA/ Ft. Moore area was bought from Ken Thomas Acura. Ken Thomas Acura sold out to a dealer network back in 2007. Ken Thomas building was closed down and bought buy an automotive custom shop called PTAP. Today, the Acura dealership is called Acura of Columbus which is located off of Whittlesey Blvd in Columbus, GA. My uncle's Legend is a Gen 2 '95 model. He has a rare model. LS trim, Bose Premium Audio, automatic A/C and black exterior with black leather. Not too many black on black Legends out there. He bought it with just 21 miles on it. It is on the 2nd paint job. The car has 487,000 original miles. Same engine and transmission except for the "transfer case". It was replaced back in 1997 under warranty. His Acura became his daily driver back in 2016 after his '98 Accord got totaled from a deer. He uses nothing but Honda/Acura parts because to this day his Legend is still dealer maintained. He drives his Legend from Buena Vista, GA to Robins AFB in Warner Robins, GA which is 70 miles one way. His Legend hasn't skipped a beat. The C32A 3.2 SOHC V6 in his Legend is still silky smooth.
I bought a 1990 Acura Legend LS sedan 5 speed manual as my project car, hope to learn some more information from your videos... it is in rough shape
Nice, we will go through this together
Oh, I see no auto reverse on the usdm tape deck. The edm version is a Blaupunkt headunit with an extra analoge equalizer below. At that time the same head units where oem fitted in Porsche and Mercedes, so the prize for a used one today is crazy high. About 400 to 600€.
Interesting, good to know!
With that white G1 - you should see if that yard would sell you that whole car - its even got a 5spd trans!
Yeah hopefully it got put to use by now! I'm sure it's long gone.
Haven’t viewed your vids in awhile. The 86 Legend I haven’t seen any on the road since prob the early 2000s. The gauges remind me of the 88 Accord I drove as my first car in the late 90s. I thought the 86 Legend had the “Acura” lettered logo on the front grille?
In 1987 they added the V6 logo in the grille. They didn’t add the word Acura until I think 1988 or 1989
13:14 Yikes! That’s actually the 37th week of 1998! 2008 would have had 4 numbers on the DOT code
Wow!
cant believe the algorithm hasnt found this video yet.. looking at the VIDiq plugin i can see you're not using any tags. You need to improve your description. This video should be way more popular than it is but the algorithm cant find it because its got no specific tags to push to particular users searching for them.
Thanks for the tip
Tyson, I wonder how many times we’ve been to the tag office in our lives? 😅
Haha, seriously! Too many...
where did you get the blue replica plates and the new floor mats?
California License Plates website. And ebay!
@@TysonHugie ah... thank you.
Where did you get the replica license plates, Tyson? And can they be used assuming you're using current stickers (I realize this may vary from state to state)?
I don't think the replica plates are street legal. I got these from a website called California License Plates. About $70 each I think. They are high quality.
What shocks do you usually go with on these restorations?
I think I have only done shocks on one car, the '95 Legend coupe rears. I think they were PRT
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks Torrey!
Hi i have a question what junkyard is that called??
U Pull & Pay
What is going on with that front license plate bracket? ;)
Not sure what you mean
@@TysonHugie I'll see if I can find the factory bracket if you want. Had one somewhere. Lol
I don’t think the USDM bracket will hold the Euro style plate I’m using.
Would you ever consider selling your Prelude?
I don't think so, that car has a lot of sentimental value
I completely understand, I received a brand new 1989 Prelude SI identical to yours for my high school graduation!
I still fancy the Rover 800 (Sterling) more. That 1986 Legend was quite ugly. The 1989 refresh worked wonders for this car.
I wonder how those Sterlings were for reliability.
That's funny. We know how that worked out.
He has a Honda Lawnmower as well? Typical 😄
You know it! With an Acura badge...
@@TysonHugie 😄
