- Slow but steady progress on this one! I'm fixing up a 1986 Acura Legend sedan 5-speed as a way of celebrating Acura's upcoming 40th anniversary in 2026. Thanks for following along!

Parts hunting on 80s Hondas is always fun! Like Christmas morning when you find something you need! I need to take both of my 1st Gen CRXs in for a wiper recall. Be fun to see the reaction! 😂. Great content!
Awesome. Thank you!
Hold onto your hat - the canister style filter was also on our old 1987 coupe with the 2.7L engine. We ended up swapping the oil filter base over to the screw-on style later on just for availability sake. Oddly enough, BMW also used that canister-style filter through the 2000s, although those were mounted at the top of the engine instead of the bottom.
Good to know!
For the sunroof drains, I recommend blowing through them with compressed air and then dumping some windshield washer fluid down the drains. That usually does the trick. I had an issue like that on my CRV, which turned out to be that the sunroof wasn’t properly adjusted so it wasn’t sealed properly. I did also take the opportunity to degrease the tracks and pack them with fresh new synthetic grease. Probably a good idea to do that while you’re in there as well.
Definitely going to do all of this!
Acura Man - Like always like your videos, incredible job you do, so much work and time. Great Joby Buddy - Dave from El Paso
Thanks Dave
I have a few OEM oil filters from the early 90s that I bought but I'm afraid to use them due to their age. Worry the paper has degraded and may ruin the engine.
I wondered about that too, I am storing these indoors to keep them from becoming more brittle etc
Couldn’t you just get a regular oil filter?
You're an inspiration with these old cars and driving them like new! Downsizing everything and got rid of a 2021 Rav and P/U a 2010 Highlander, 110k granny and pappy owned Snow birds! All service at Toyota and it's paid for!!!! Hopefully get me some great miles and travels ahead!
Good move.
Very nice! Good score
So cool to see this old gem being restored to factory new (or as close as possible to factory new) condition! You know, I think it’s probably easier in 2024 to restore a 1969 Camaro than it is to restore a 1980s Honda/Acura product.
What about 111,111 as the mileage goal for the Acura anniversary celebration?
There's an idea!

Nice!
Great car! My grandmother drove one of these back in the day. Hers was an automatic, but these are way cooler with the 5 speed manual gearbox. My current car is a 2005 Honda CR-V with the 5 speed manual gearbox. I love it!!!
Wow that CR-V is a rarity with the stick. Awesome.
@@TysonHugie yeah I got it last summer with 200k one owner, very well maintained and no rust. What more could I ask for? lol well I've had to do a lot of upkeep maintenances here and there on a bunch of things but it’s never given me any trouble. It always runs. I plan to hold onto this car for a very long time.
Great job giving this Acura a new lease on life! Sourcing these older parts can be challenging but the hunt makes it exciting. If you ever stuck consider searching in Canada, I would like to help wherever I can.
Sounds good, thank you sir!
Your determination is "LEGENDary!" Keep up the great work, thanks for taking us along!
Thanks for watching!
9:32 4800rpm must be getting ready for a 50 roll in the 86 xD (i know the gauges were messed up).
Haha seriously!
Looking great my friend! Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see this one in person.
You and me both!
Coming along nicely bud! Always interesting to see how you source parts/service.
Thank you as always! Appreciate it!
I believe you can convert the cartridge style oil filter to the later spin-on style, car is looking great!
Oh good to know, thank you!!
Glad you fixed the tachometer. Chuckled at 5:00 when it was pegged at the redline.
Btw, cheers to the approaching 100k miles. My '23 TLX Type S just hit 20,000km yesterday :)
Thank you! Yes I'm planning something for the big 100k
Can you just buy regular oil filters for the 86-87 Legends? Aren’t some older models of Honda Oil filters compatible for the car?
I ended up finding some
My first Acura was an 85 5 speed sedan in this same set up. Awesome car!!
Nice I think the first model year was '86, I would love to see if yours was really an '85
@@TysonHugie my bad yes 86 lol. Typo.
Man I saw a 1994 legend automatic 4 door at my local junk yard and automatically thought about you hahaha
Haha, I am honored
Had no idea Honda ever used that style oil filter. Common on the German brands though still to this day. Was that Thompson Twins playing at the dealership? Haha. They wanted to make that old ‘86 feel at home 😊
Haha, I'm sure it was!
❤I love Mai Kar
Thank you
Time for new tires for my RL (the Michelins are cracking) didn't you put Hankooks on this Legend and what do you think of them?
I would have done Michelin but they don't make them in the size for this 1986 Legend. I believe they do make them in RL sizes. I haven't driven these Hankooks more than 100 miles or so.
Hey Tyson, since I commented on your video posted today, 4/20/24, it got me thinking. You seem to be the go-to guy when it comes to restoration. I figured I'd ask your opinion here versus bother you with an email. I have a Lexus IS and inherited a scratch on the center console (shifter area) which is the birds-eye maple wood (dark) with gloss over it. Is there a way to fix the scratch? Do those buff out? I just don't want to make it worse. Thanks for your assistance.
Galen
That's a tough one, I don't know if it will buff out. I recently tried fixing a center console by sanding off the top layer to re-clear it, and I ruined the whole thing.
@@TysonHugie Thx for the reply. I thought to re-coat that area with polyurethane, yet it might make it worse. It is not obvious to people but I know it's there. I'll check around the Lexus forums. Have a nice weekend!
So, did the Acura dealership replace your seat belt buckles for free?
Yes
I’m surprised they didn’t charge you.
@@joshuawick5382 for a recall? I’m not sure why any automaker would charge someone for repair of a safety recall.
Hello tyson would you ever do a RDX 1st gen? So many attributes to the tsx and its sportiness and a lot of people love them. Would love to see your take on one
Sure one of these days I'd love to try one out
