- In an unexpected but very welcome twist, I finally acquired a nice example of the only generation of Prelude that my family hadn't yet owned. Will be fun to play around with this a little. Thanks for watching.

What sets your channel apart is you get the cleanest cars in stock form. Love it
Thank you! I love the originality
I still own my 1996 Honda Prelude VTEC in Azure Blue-Green exterior color and Ivory color interior leather, and manual 5-speed transmission. Garaged car with ultra low mileage, so today I drive it for fun a few times a month. This generation Prelude was and still is such a well-engineered and innovative styling (both outside and inside) sports car I cannot ever part with it. This was Honda's golden years for pushing the limits on cool designs and bringing their F1 race technology to their consumer automobiles.
Wow your Prelude sounds amazing
4th gen Prelude. The best generation of preludes ever made.
Glad someone thinks so! Thank you!
That is quite the pickup. I was hoping to see you restore one of these. God knows that generation deserves some love.
Right? I know, this gen is so underappreciated / obscure.
After just over 19 yrs, Tuesday, April 30th, 2024, I sold my 1999 Prelude Base 5spd in Milano red. After being hit head on back on Sept. 15th, 2015, it's been super difficult to drive a manual. Sad to see it go. 111,264 miles on it when Lucy left.
Sad to hear that. I still drive a 1994 Toyota Corolla LE I bought from the previous owner on November 27th, 2013. She also had back issues and could no longer drive it, so she decided to sell. It has just turned 173,000 miles last week, and I restored it to its former glory last year: new paint job, headlights, original upholstery, etc. And I'm keeping it forever. I Hope Lucy finds another dedicated owner like you. Cheers!
Aw sad. I hope that car went to a great home!
How much did it sell for?
@TysonHugie the guy who bought it, got the 25yr old classic AZ plates for it and got tags for 5 yrs. I think he plans on keeping it. He owns the local tint/stereo shop and plans to do nothing to it. I was surprised.
@@jay.fromthebay you can ask, doesn't mean you will get an answer.
You’re bringing back memories. I had a ‘94 Prelude VTEC back in the day. Didn’t honestly realize how special the car was while I actually owned it. Would love to have it now.
Totally, I think over time this generation was sort of forgotten
I just bought one for $3500. '94 5 speed vtec, black on black leather(leather needs saving), But zero cracks in the dash, and she shifts amazing. You can still find them for cheap. My find was in Northern California last week 🍻
I met her briefly at the Walgreens off Elliot and I10 a few months ago. Told her , her Prelude is pretty desirable and an easy sale.
Yes! That is exactly the area where she lives, haha. Small world.
She knows her Hondas! Credit points for loving the CRX 😂! Beautiful ride! Going to need more garage space!
Seriously! Thank you
Incredible condition. The Arizona climate helps with keeping the tin worm at bay too. 👍🙂
That is for sure!
Congratulations! it's Beautiful and very hard to find a rust free non modded one.... I Love the Prelude ... I've had a silver 85 ... A blue 88 4ws .... A red 93 4ws .... A black 96 vetch ... And currently we have a red 01 with 54,000 miles ... I have 7 cars right now and if they all had to go it would be the last .... As for the oil consumption .... They all eat some .... 1 quart per 1,200 mile is within factory specifications....
Good to know! Wow you have had a few Preludes!
Those prices for maintenance are insane! I am glad that I do all of my own work.
Definitely big $
Now you can see why America is broke! Everybody has to keep up their show 😁
Absolutely beautiful car. Watching your videos has definitely inspired me. I now keep a records binder for each car that I own/have owned. This also just motivated me to show my 7th Gen Accord 6-6 (78k miles!) some love today.
That is awesome! Glad to be a good/bad influence however I can, haha
The car drives, feels and looks good because this owner cared. So many people are pigs with cars. I've looked long and hard for good Hondas and it's tough. Congrats on this good pickup. It goes from an excellent owner to someone even better.
I really appreciate that! I hope to preserve it as well as Julie did
Beautiful Prelude love that gen! Here on the east coast that car is a rare find! Little red seems to not need much at all.. Great find
Definitely! Planning on having some fun with it. Hope you are enjoying the weekend
The dash on these preludes were so awesome
Agreed!
You find all the GEMS 💎!!!
Thank you!
My favourite gen Prelude, I had a chance to buy a milano red H23 5spd 2 years ago but passed and have regretted it ever since. So jealous of this one!
Thank you, definitely going to have some fun with it.
Congrats! Looks great!
Yes, rare to find owners committed for the long haul. Being a 1-owner is probably the best part of this.
Definitely takes a level of commitment to not give up on a car as you and I are well aware.
Couldn't agree more! Thanks Justin
Nice pick up Tyson! Vroom Vroom! Little Red fits perfectly in your garage! 🤩
Thanks Penny!
All of the unique little sounds of the Prelude. They carry over generation to generation. It's so cool
Haha I noticed that too!
I've never seen a 4th gen Prelude this clean! I feel like every one that I've seen has been horrifically modified to the point of no return. I'm grateful that you ended up picking it up :). Excited to see what you do with this one!
Agreed, thanks Sunny!
What a gem!!! So rare to see these nowadays, especially in such amazing original condition
Agreed, thanks Brandon
What a beautifull car. They drive so well. The gearbox is amazing and very precise. Love it!
Totally agreed, thank you!
In November I bought a ‘93 Civic del Sol Si manual in Milano Red, 55k miles, stock condition. I love it, your Prelude is excellent and would look great next to it.
Wow, love the del Sol! Congrats!
What an awesome find there Tyson! This was definetely garage kept, otherwise that red paint would have turned pink with the clearcoat gone! I have a black driver and passenger side black floor mat set for this car in very good shape if interested.
Oh thanks for that offer! I ended up getting ahold of some nice embroidered aftermarket carpet mats for now... I will keep you posted.
Awesome, congrats on the purchase! I love 4th gen Preludes.
Thanks Pete!
I'm coming over to see this while I'm here
Haha deal
I had the same exact car. I really miss it. Beautiful car! Amazing how much cars have grown, that TLX looks huge compared to the rest of the cars.
Agreed, definitely a size difference!
A Prelude that can still make it over speed bumps?! I Haven't seen one in years! Very nice find, its in amazing condition. I still use a club on my Civic and Integra lol, any of the pre-immobilizer 90s models are way too easy to steal otherwise.
Haha yes, good point about the security system! And gotta love that stock ride height. I won't be going for a stanced look on this one.
Loving the new addition to the family it’s gorgeous Man U sure do have an good eye for these classic Hondas loving every minute that red is the best color in the prelude in my opinion well enjoy the new ride you have one of the best Honda Acura collection in the world 🌎 you the man Tyson hugie
Much appreciated, thanks for checking it out!
Aw man, nice!!! I I used to drool over my friend's Prelude. Can't wait to see what it looks like when they bring it back!
Agreed, that will be interesting to see what they have in store
Had a white 93 Si. It was the car that I bought when I landed my first job freshly out of college. Still missed the car til this day. Yep, also remembered reading that same car and driver comparison back in the day when it went head to head with with integra gs-r.
Awesome. Good memories.
Wow I commented on your last video about getting a 4th gen Prelude now this! I love it, were almost at the exact same mileage. I daily drive a 95 Si 5-speed Pacific Blue, bone stock a blast to drive!
Haha yep, you saw this one coming. That's awesome, I love the blue color on these.
About 30 years ago I worked for Honda here in New Zealand I once had the privilage of driving a brand new red Prelude VTi-R (on dealer plates) to Auckland International Airport to be put on display inside the terminal. Under close supervision of airport security I was able to drive the Prelude down the runway and past the huge international planes and then in through the baggage entry/exit which is alongside the baggage carousel and into the main terminal.
That is awesome! I wonder if there are any photos of that event.
Nice. That’s my childhood dream car 👍
It's a beauty!
Has to be my favorite body style Prelude. With the prior gen with pop up lights being a close second. What a score Tyson!
Thank you! Pretty stoked about it!
Little Red is a show stopper, that is for sure! Polishing those tips always helps! Congratulations on the addition!
Haha thanks Ian! Hope to let you drive it sometime!
My 1992 Prelude SI 5 speed in Blue was the last of the five Ludes I owned. I added the OEM spoiler, and enjoyed driving this generation for sure.
I wonder if yours was Fresco Blue or Brittany Blue-Green. Both such cool colors
@@TysonHugie Fresco Blue was my color. I loved the Brittany Blue-Green, which I think was on the VTEC top of the line.
nice new addition! my friend had a purple 5 speed Si of the same generation back when we were in our college years. First thing I did when I got my GS-R a few weeks ago was to get a "Club" type device because they are often stolen and also it kind of fits the period of the car lol
Haha yes it does
TH, I am always simply amazed at the vehicles you are able to pick up and add to the collection. Another nice one. Congrats
Thank you!
I had a red 1992 4WS 5-spd. I did an H22 swap and some minor bolt-ons.
To this day, one of my favorite cats ive ever owned.
I would like to get a 1994 4WS in the future again. (The interior and odometers are better in 1994-1996)
Most people dont remember/know that car critics did not like the dash layout. It was roo much of a departure from the 3rd gen. That is what encouraged Honda to do the electroluminescent odometer and change the center console.
The last Honda to have glass-housing headlights, too!
I was wondering about that. I love the glass headlights.
Milano red is probably my fav Honda color
It is a great one
I haven't seen one this nice in over 10 years. Can't wait for the upcoming videos on this one!
Thank you! More to come!
Beautiful acquisition Tyson! Love the amount of documentation included with the car. Red Preludes are irresistible.
Agreed, thanks Mark!
Awesome! Love it.
Figured you would!
that is a beauty.... I like it without the spoiler, less common. I am jelly.
Thank you!
OMG you actually got one. Big up! I remember buying the 1996 Si VTEC (Canadian) brand spanking new. Man that thing was fast for it's time. I had that car for 15 years. I had the addons of the spoiler, front fog lights, and leather heated seats.
That's awesome, I'm planning on adding the OEM spoiler
I remember wanting one back in the day but couldn’t afford it. Had my 91 CRX Si at the time. Wish I still hadn’t sold it years later.
Fun cars
That car is just a year older than me and it’s looking it great shape 😊
Awesome, thank you!
Just beautiful!!I it would have taken my month to enter that data.
Haha it’s a little bit of a tedious process
You're going to need another car garage soon with all these rare gem additions!
That's for sure!
My first car! Same color too 😍 I LOVE it!
I didn't realize that! Awesome!
Nice acquisition! Congrats.
Unique dash design and switchgears layout.
Thank you! I know, the interior is so unique for a Honda
Mother's Day is fast approaching... wink. GORGEOUS! And SO CLEAN!
So true!
I remember they came out with Unique Light Colored Gold 4th Gen back in 94 and it came with leather seats.
Yes! I think I've seen a couple of those online
wow, mint condition for its age...congrats!
Totally! Thank you!
red is such a fun color
Totally, love it
Congrats Tyson! (not my favorite gen prelude but love the color)
That is a common feeling! It is probably the least appreciated Prelude platform, which is part of why I feel like it deserves a chance. Thanks Emir!
Looks like you were in Ahwatukee, this amazingly taken care of Lude. What a great score. High miles but who cares
Exactly!
I had a Milano Red 93 5spd VTEC back in 96👌
Amazing car!
Gorgeous Prelude!
Thank you!
That level of commitment from an owner is nice to see. Nice find! I was a DSM fan back then but always admired the Prelude. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't it come from the factory with a power antenna?
Correct, it should have a power retractable antenna! I am looking to convert it back
Fckn beautiful 4th gen. I had 3 and I miss them all! Get a spoiler on it!
Yep spoiler coming soon!
looks Great in your collection, NSX watch out!🤔😂
Exactly!
She killed it with that antenna get the oem that goes up and down
Agreed, I'd like to change it back
It’s like that line in The Hunt for Red October when the national security advisor asks the Russian ambassador: “Andrei, you lost ANOTHER submarine?” “Tyson, you bought ANOTHER Honda?” 😀
Absolutely love this acquisition. The 4th gen Prelude was a great car - very cool to see such a clean survivor. The paint seems pretty clean, at least from the video - was it resprayed or is that the factory finish? Any road trip plans with it?
It was a full repaint in 2018. I am not sure where to road trip it first!
yes! i love this gen of prelude and i never see them anymore. good buy. dont add the spoiler!
Thank you!
Just a car fun fact for you Tyson! But, back in the 70's, 80's, and even into the 90's, cars could be optioned with a Moonroof (which was the tinted glass roof), or a Sunroof (which was the Hard color matched metal roof. Either roof could be optioned depending on preference. Looking good btw Tyson!!
Thank you!!
Exquisite example Tyson!!
Thank you!
Arizona seems to be a beautiful, sunny place. Its weather is kind to older cars, too. Very nice to see a well-kept machine like that. One problem I see even in those cars when they have high mileage, though, is that the steering wheel rubber doesn't age well. Is there a replacement? I'd pay top dollar for brand-new steering wheels for my '90s Japanese imports. Any idea where I can find it, Tyson? Thanks for the video, as usual.
Yes I am trying to figure out what to do about the steering wheel. For my Legends I usually have them redone with leather by a company called Craft Customs in Texas
@@TysonHugie Cool, but a leather wrap makes the steering wheel thicker, and it kinda loses the original feel you only have in older cars. A company could build rubber-wrapped steering wheels that looked identical to the original ones. That would be a profitable niche for enthusiasts like us.
In regards to the paint matched sunroof … I could be mistaken but didn’t Honda call those “sunroofs” and glass versions “moonroofs”?
Yup - he mentioned the same later when he's going through the original manual and materials.
Yep definitely!
Strange that this was the only generation to get sunroof rather than moonroof on ALL others (ok JDM 1st gen got sunroof unlike the rest of the world).. Good that isn't rusty!
I've never seen a garage like yours. Looks like it seats 6 cars. Incredible! Did you have to modify it or is that how garages are in Arizona? lol
It is all custom
Amazing condition, I'm jealous of those desert cars! You ever had or driven a 5th gen Prelude? Any thoughts on the new Prelude concept?
Yes, I love the 5th gen. My brother had a base '98. The Prelude Concept looks cool, we will have to wait and see what the production version specs are!
Only 2 cars worth having is the NSX and a 2001 Prelude type S. I have owned all the Hondas you have in your collection and then some. 93 were junk. I have a 94 NSX and a 01 Prelude type S, both great cars.
Awesome, great cars. You owned an SLX?
@@TysonHugie Never owned an SLX, no Cadillacs for me
A little foreshadowing in the last video when you were commenting about the 4th gen Preludes gauges. I wondered why you were spending extra time with that blue (originally red I believe) car.
Haha yes, glad you caught that.
Omg daddy that clean im love its
Thank you
Everyone looking @ tge Prelude & NSX... I'm over here like "How da f*** he get a front & back door garage!" 🤯🤣
Do love me some Hondas tho.
Haha yes, the garage goes all the way through to the backyard.
@@TysonHugie ❤️❤️❤️ I'm jelly
4:45 And that is the true difference between a sunroof and a moonroof. The non glass panel like on this Prelude is a sunroof. The glass panels are moonroofs.
12:33 And I see I wrote my comment prematurely. I should have known you would know the difference. 😉
Haha yep! A few friends also pointed out, the CRX also had a steel sunroof like this
The only real flow with these is the oil consumption issues due to the rings wearing. Honda at this time was using something called FRM for their cylinder sleeves and it's not kind to rings over the long term do you end up with one rings slow compression and oil consumption. I believe the b21 and the third gen prelude was the first engine to feature FRM, but it was also used in the h23 and h22. Possibly the S2000 as well but I'm not quite sure. Great engines but one quart per a thousand miles consumption is not unusual.
That is good to know, I have heard it from a few people now so that confirms it
@@TysonHugie absolutely. The frm liner is interesting since apparently it's much much harder than the rings, causing the rings to car most all of the wear. Frm liners also are matte in appearance, and don't have the typical honed cross hatching at all. I'm not sure if this affects oiling to the rings but I can imagine it does and perhaps that's another wear factor. Also, frm liners cannot be honed or machined at all! I've read over the years the best thing to do it to toss in new rings and not even bother with honing, and the rings will wear themselves in. Pretty interesting stuff. Fun facts, Porsche also have used frm in the past.
One of my first cars was a red ‘93 Si just like this one. I found a ‘96 Si (2.3) back in 2019 with 103k for under $5k. Seeing this one I almost wish I hadn’t sold it during the pandemic boom now.
Do you know if this is the original paint? My Milano red was already fading on the mirrors/hood by ‘02, and that was under the more forgiving midwestern sun too.
This has been repainted, Milano is definitely known for fading!
Very nice find! How does the clutch feel on this car? Has it ever been replaced before?
I don't have record of it being changed. It doesn't slip, but I also think it's a little "heavy" and engages close to the floor. Will probably get a replacement.
@@TysonHugie yeah I am probably going to need to do that on my ‘05 CR-V as well for the same reason.
I've got a 1997 Prelude (Gen 5) with 190k and an original clutch. I'm easy on clutches, so I wonder how long it will last.
It's in great condition for a car over 30 years old
Agreed, thank you!
That's some car
Thanks
Arizona cars make you realize high mileage isn't a major project. The rust that forms from the salty roads in winter areas are ..
Agreed
How does your garage keep swallowing cars? Mines maxed out at 3, nice prelude and find.
Haha, I'm very maxed out too. It is an endless shuffle.
Hey Tyson was your current daily driver you drive the most? You have so many nice cars to choose from
I try to change it up so all the cars get exercised. But my 2013 ILX is a frequently used one.
That's a nice ride, however high miles really devalues it a lot. More than you can imagine.
Thanks for your opinion! I'd rather have a well maintained high mileage car as opposed to one that's been parked for long periods of time.
@@TysonHugie haha! I wish it was only my opinion!!! I have some higher mileage collectibles also. And if they were low mileage they'd be worth a fortune. 😁
But they're not. Because they're drivers. So that's that! Have fun with it. At least you have it. Not everything is about money anyways. But it sure comes in handy lol
Nice but I was hoping and praying that you would get a fifth gen type sh lol
Totally would. Electron Blue Pearl 2001!
@@TysonHugie Yessss 😍
What products do you use for restoring the exhaust tip finishers?
Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish
Here are two videos of my old Prelude. I shocked a lot of people with how capable this car is in the turns!

ruclips.net/video/lqeTNWQWFos/видео.htmlsi=ALiu61KyKlZixbpx
That is awesome! Vintage vids, looking good at VIR
What camera did you use for the walk-around of the prelude?
This was all just shot with my iPhone 14
@@TysonHugie that's amazing!
How did that paint survive 31 years of Arizona? Owner must have garaged it during the day and drove at night!
The car was fully repainted in 2018. Milano Red is notorious for turning Milano Pink around here!
Also, 31 years!
@@TysonHugie oh yeah, My G1 had Phoenix Pink bumpers!
@@TysonHugie fat fingered and edited. . . . hahaha
Really clean but having them stock is boring. Hondas and Acuras need at least an intake and exhaust on them to make them really fun to drive.
Right on
I gathered from watching Tyson's videos that as a collector, stock is important.
I have a 5th gen Prelude that's all stock and wish I had the time to rebuild and upgrade. It would be super fun to drive, which is what's more important to me.
It's so tiny compared to the TLX haha!
Haha, I noticed that too!
Seriously, when you first layed eyes on the prelude was there any doubt you weren't going to buy it?
Haha it was sort of irresistible
I actually have an OEM wing off of my 1992 si if you’re interested
Dang, I just picked one up yesterday from a local automotive recycling facility!
@@TysonHugie oh good for you! No worries, I kept a few parts from my old prelude with hopes of getting another one some day. It was my first car and I absolutely fell in love with it. Unfortunately I got into an accident in it one night and it was deemed totaled 😩 15 years later and I still can’t get over that first love. Hopefully one day I can get another one 🤞 congratulations on scoring this one, it’s truly a wonderful car! So under appreciated in the Honda community
My Prelude is in similar condition but less miles and different color
Awesome ride
@@TysonHugie very underrated cars.
How much was it
One million dollars
That’s a sunroof not moonroof moon roof is glass
Agreed
I find it hard to believe there ever existed a car-guy who actually lusted after this car.
The Legend coupé should probably be more boring but that one I would actually love to have. This thing? Meh.
Right? That's the exact kind of comment that made me want one. 4th gen gets a bad rap for its design, but it's actually brilliant to drive.
@@TysonHugie to each his own 👍(ppl think I am weird because I like Isuzu VehiCross)
@@TysonHugie My 5th gen's fun to drive, too, and I like the design.
