Do you have to have the fire shield for this to work. I’ve gone in and out in and out and still it won’t drop. I am using the heaven sword to kill the jack o bones.
It’s the dodo bird that drops the sword. The shield is nice because you can just run through the jack o bones to reach the bird easier. But, any weapon setup will do, just make sure to kill that bird.
Fun fact: The words left by the Rune Sword are "VERBOTEN", meaning forbidden in German.

true, dual heaven swords are the dream combo for a lot of the game
