I have this lawn and so do some of my customers. It is amazing. You can have it long and Fluffy, or short and formal. It was walked on from day 1. Never showed signs of traffic. There is a small dog in the yard. The lawn doesn't show wear. My kids play soccer on it regularly. It needs sun though. So, if you have shady areas, you can seed those areas with RPR, from mckays grass seed online. RPR needs more water, but it blends perfectly with Tiff Tuff. It also dies off in full sun in summer, so you can rotate them during hot and cold months. Just dont make the mistake i did and continue to baby the RPR in summer, as it has effected my Tiff Tuff part of the lawn through over watering. The seed grass in perenial, so the leaf may die off in hot weather, but it will come back in the cooler months as long as you keep the roots alive. In conclusion, this is my favourite grass of all time, and I have 20 years of experience in the industry.
I’ve had this for over 4 years. And I find it a total PITA. Its brown stem continues to grow, forcing you to cut higher and higher each week… .if you have large periods of rain, like 2 weeks. It will grow and then when you cut it, it will die off and thin out. It needs mowing every 3 days to stop this stem from growing and forcing you to cut higher. If you do a half scalp it basically kills that section of grass. Its drought performance is impressive but it’s the best grass for only a few weeks of the year. The rest of the time is spent working on it. Recovering it from winter. Or endlessly mowing it else it gets long and gangly. So many turf suppliers advertise it as low maintenance which is total and utter BS. You cannot own this grass and just mow it once a week. You basically need to regrow it each year - that is if you want to keep it presentable.
Thanks for the video, I will be putting this down on my lawn, how long after you kill the vegetation can you install the sod. I will probably be using Roundup.
Don't buy Bermuda, get ultra dwarfed zoysia, it beats Bermuda in every category, stays green during winter, handles the heat and drought far better. Some of the best courses are already changing, out with Bermuda or bentgrass in with zoysia. The new cultivars are called, Lazer, trinity, primeo and prizm
Does anyone know if I am switching from Tifway 2 Hybrid Bermuda (only a year old) to TifTuf Bermuda do I need to kill all of the roots of the Tifway when I remove the grass with a sod cutter or will removing the grass with a sod cutter 2inches down do the trick and I am safe to just place the TifTuf on top after I place some new soil after removal?
Better watch out Bermuda will be on the way out with new ultra dwarfed zoysia grass that is already replacing Bermuda greens on courses and lawns at home once Bermuda. The zoysia plays far better than Bermuda, excellent green color thru winter instead of going dormant and requires far less input which means more money savings. The new zoysia can Handle the heat, drought and every other scenario better than the old Bermuda and far more shade tolerant. It can be used as far North as Chicago
I’ve had tiftuff for 4 years and I hate it. Very high maintenance grass if you want to keep it short. You will be forced to cut it higher and higher else it will scalp as its brown stem/ trunk of the plant will continue to grow. And if you scalp it. You will be left with big sections of brown that take forever to recover. You are basically forced to cut it to ground level (like soil level) and regrow it each year. I say it’s the best lawn on earth for 6 weeks of the year; the rest of the time is spent recovering it from winter and mowing it every 3 days else you will pay the price. And weeks of regrowing and watering it. If you have large periods of rain. Goodluck. It gets tall, gangly and thins out. Don’t let the turf shops sell you a “low” maintenance grass. Total and utter marketing bullshit. Don’t buy this grass if you plan to mow once a week. @3:46 is your warning. If you had 2 weeks of soaking rain. Your beautiful nice short lawn is now tall and gangly. It hates being cut when damp. Leaves will yellow off. And if you dare accidentally scalp it. The whole section will not recover. And you can never trim it down. You will always have to raise the mower between mows. The brown stem continues to grow until you strip and regrow it 1-2 times a year. I hope you like looking at dirt or having a tall green brown lawn.

My landscape report for my new build says “tiff Bermuda” is that the same thing?
Can I water this grass with soft water?

I place it directly on top and it came out great!
Also known as couch grass, why doesn't he say that?
