  • (25 May 2017) RISING STARS INTRODUCED TO CANNES AT FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS
Four of Germany's fastest rising stars were introduced at the Cannes Film Festival, as the Face to Face campaign continues to celebrate the successes of German film.
"Homeland"s Alexander Fehling, "SS-GB"'s Ronald Zehrfeld, "Dark" star Louis Hofmann and Volker Bruch from "Babylon Berlin" posed for a photocall the day after the annual cocktail party thrown by German Films.
The stars have some tips for fellow festival goers to stay fresh for the cameras the morning after the night before.
"Put teabags on the eyes, drink lots of coffee and a lot of water," smiled Zehrfeld.
The actors also suggested what "Toni Erdmann" director Maren Ade might be looking for, as she and the rest of the Jury consider this year's Palme d'Or contenders.
German projects heading to the international stage that excite the group include Hoffman's supernatural family drama series "Dark" - the first German language Netflix original series.
But the group have mixed expectations of the impact Brexit might have on pan-European film collaborations.
"Makes me scared at the moment because of Brexit." says Zehrfeld. "The last year was very good due to companies working together, it was getting better and better and now it makes us scared, what will happen next. It's not so good for the film companies, that makes a lot of things much more difficult to push films, to pitch topics and knock on wood Please, the old way please."
"No, I don't think that will in any way stop the collaboration, neither Brexit nor Trump, I think," insists Hofmann. "Germany has just doubled their fund, their film fund, especially for big international productions. So that is all in the coming and it's raising the amount of international productions in Germany, the co-productions. And I think also the filmmakers in Europe - or probably all over the world - see the advantage of working together and putting together different aspects of film and different ways of seeing film, different ways of working and so I think it's going to raise."
And while Hofmann is open to offers from Hollywood, should they come, Fehling will be staying put.
"I don't want to live in LA," he states. "It's totally fine to be in LA for a couple of weeks but - have you ever been to Berlin? Berlin is really the place to be at the moment, so I don't have any reason to be anywhere else."
Face to Face with German Films is also spotlighting actors Jannis Niewöhner and Tom Schilling.
