- HeyUGuys interviews Louis Hofmann & Lisa Vicari for their brand new Netflix TV show Dark - the first original show to come out of Germany for the online streaming channel.
Plot: When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids. The mystery-drama series introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that includes a web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town's troubled history -- whether they know it or not. The story includes supernatural elements that tie back to the same town in 1986. "Dark" represents the first German original series produced for Netflix.

I don't personally think the show is anything like Stranger Things. In most reviews I have read they are all saying that it is highly similar. This is totally different in tone and much more serious.

It has a lot more in common with Twin Peaks: The Return than Stranger Things. Especially in the last episode.

I was impressed at first by how light the German accent is in their English but my god, their vocabulary, is amazing for non-native speaker of English from a European country.
People in Europe learn English with British teachers generally, so the vocabulary is richer than Americans

@@alextjb Me too, I liked more season one because of that and it was better structured. I would've liked it more if they resolved the plot with just time travel things, I think they opted for that cause the story was getting kinda messed and the good guys didn't have much chances to really win

I think these two actors are very impressive and articulate. I've just started watching Dark and they both really stood out to me as talented.

I think it's because, they belong so same language family.. English, Dutch and German belongs to west Germanic language family.. There are similarities in many ways.. I think it's comparatively easy for them to learn than to others.. And most Germans begins studying English from the young age..
I'm having withdrawals. This was some of the finest science fiction I've seen in years. Perfect tone, incredible story, and the acting was so superb from every character. You have done something extraordinary.

The best part about this series is. THEY ENDED IT AS PLANNED. When the makers try to cash in the popularity they end up ruining the show. This show by far had the one of the best finale ever. And that is what makes it a great show. Trilogy was a great way to go. The pace just kept getting better and so it was really gripping. It is a great example for other makers to not over do it. Because the writing slackens when you try to stretch it beyond its original plan.
Love it. It is absolutely one of the best shows ever made. This and black mirror.
100%. I’ve said it’s like Lost, but better planned out. Its refreshing to watch a show that knows where they’re going with the thread of the story from the start.
Abit late but the show didn't end as they originally planned for it to end, the writers initially wanted the sudden appearance of SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
The sudden appearance of Jonas and Martha to be the CAUSE of the accident that leads tannahaus to build the time machine, meaning that the cycle will NEVER end and there will always be something that causes that chain reaction to start one way or another
@Sultaanash Dude that's crazy. I just finished the show and I absolutely loved every part of it including the ending which already was pretty sad. But that version you mentioned is even more sad.
@@Sultaanash what i meant was they didnt over do the seasons just because it got popular. For eg dexter, a great series ruined by 2 extended seasons because of the growing popularity. This, they planned it as a trilogy and ended the show in the 3rd season and not stretching it. Endings can be changed. The script is always a work in progress as they film.

Sadly the UK made learning a second language optional 10 years ago. Stooopid decision.

I also believe that learning another language is something very personal, I'm mexican and I've learnt english, german and french, it's something I did for myself cause here in México, the only language you have access to in a public school is English.

Here in Germany we have to learn English, so it is very normal for german teenagers to be good at english. :)
In Germany you start in year two with english, in secondary you start with a third language and some people are crazy enough to start learning a fourth one one or two years later

Edigator I know! French people talk a lot with their hands😂 but also with the facial expressions! While the German, well... they usually put on more of a straight face and keep their hands quiet when they talk. They are very serious, but it doesn't mean they are in a bad mood or something, it's just their way of being!

Couldn't help noticing that German teens look just like they're supposed to. Young actors from amercian TVs somehow look older in 16 than these guys in their 20s, like they've been subjected to a growth accelerator or something. %)

Louis is 21 (now in July, 2018) so he would have been 19-20 when filming Dark. And his character is supposed to be 16. I thought that he looked older than 16. But not as bad as some shows where the "17 year old" is played by someone who's around 30.

Gavin Greenhorn i think they both look 18/29 to be honest but it really doesn’t bother me anyways. but it’s common for studios to cast older actors to play teenagers as there won’t be many restrictions, e.g. how many work hours, parents being involved, risky scenes etc...
some tv shows or movies don’t follow this though, like stranger things, IT, and a bunch of other shows you can find on netflix x

Louis is going to be the male lead character in all the light we cannot see on Netflix alongside with Mark Ruffalo. I honestly can't wait to see more of him he definitely deserve the recognition around the globe and I think he's million times better than some of the overrated Hollywood young actors out there.

you mean mostly americans. Cause most people don't watch dubbed series/movies. Im from Greece and we all start watching with subtitles at like 6-7years old
Unless you're blind and unable to read then you should always watch foreign language films with subtitles, with the actors' real voices, delivering the lines the way they intended them to be delivered. Never watch foreign movies/shows dubbed. It's lame. Plus it's fun to hear the other language. You can learn some of it while watching. I've already picked up random German words from watching this show. Watching all these episodes....it's the most German I've heard spoken in my entire life. :D It gives me a real sense of the language.
@@CarissaConti well I have watched some of it without the dubs, but having to keep watching the subtitles sometimes would give me a headache. But when I re-watch it, I'll definitely watch it without the dubs. And damn that's awesome lol

What a beautifully intricately written show. So much happens in every episode that you really have to watch it multiple times to catch everything. The actors do an amazing job, particularly those 2-3 actors who play the same character over different generations. Please please please give us season 3 (and 4 and 5!)
