I predict that the number of fucks per minute will rise (steeply) for a while and then slowly go down as this car gets upgraded.
Definitely the wrong clutch and the wrong flywheel. They reused a Dual-Mass Flywheel with a grippier clutch which will increase the chance of failure of the flywheel and reduce the drivability with the power level the car has. A lightened flywheel and a more appropriate clutch would outperform what was installed by a lot.
@@Four-S So for the car they're driving - BMW M44 engine, road use with the occasional track time, and maybe a bit more power by the time they're done with BDS: An sprung organic clutch with a lighter flywheel will make a massive improvement to performance. The organic material allows a bit of slip so you can drive in traffic, the lower mass will allow for an actual measurable increase in acceleration (f=ma, if you reduce m but keep f the same then the acceleration will improve) and on that car it will be perceivable well into 3rd gear. By going to a solid flywheel and sprung clutch you've also increased reliability in a track scenario. If you want to get really specific, racehead.com.au sell a kit designed to fit an M20 clutch to an M42/4 engine. It's good upt to about 350hp, and then after that you can select a different clutch. You get an increase in NVH with the extra performance, but its still useable and won't affect reliability. The DMF is still in place, and having a button clutch like that will start to tear up all the rubber dampers every time he changes gear since there will be no slip. That flywheel will start banging and carrying on in a few thousand kms from that let alone the fact it was already old.
I really know what it’s like working on project cars now. At my job, I’ve recently been stripping out the unnecessary wiring and parts from police cars so they can be sold at auction and I cannot count how many scratches and bruises I’ve gotten from doing that but when I was finally finished, it was THE most gratifying thing EVER!
You need to do a lamp check, you've got a tail light out. I've done a motorcycle clutch several times, which is a half hour job, but never a car. Now that I've seen what a pain it is on a car I think I'll make sure and pay someone else to do it. 🤔

I bought a car with failed clutch slaved after the previous owner had replaced the clutch. The disc was installed backwards.
@@MsLoneWolf4 insurance companies require those anti theft nuts/bolts so alot of cars have em here
Alex goes like “ ahhh that’s looks painful. Did you get it on camera “ 😂 16:12
I can't stop laughing when Ethan picking up the bell housing for 3 time🤣😂😏
As someone who has a vague theoretical understanding of cars but has never done anything on an engine I am both empathic with and envious of Ethan that has a team to teach and help him (well, help might be a strong word).
Can I ask, what would be a more appropriate clutch?
Like what type of clutch?
@@Four-S So for the car they're driving - BMW M44 engine, road use with the occasional track time, and maybe a bit more power by the time they're done with BDS:
An sprung organic clutch with a lighter flywheel will make a massive improvement to performance.
Finally the Z3 is back!
14:00 How long until we see Ethan brand head wipes?
I really know what it’s like working on project cars now. At my job, I’ve recently been stripping out the unnecessary wiring and parts from police cars so they can be sold at auction and I cannot count how many scratches and bruises I’ve gotten from doing that but when I was finally finished, it was THE most gratifying thing EVER!
Watching Ethan struggle is like watching a cow trying to use a shovel ....
You need to do a lamp check, you've got a tail light out.
I've done a motorcycle clutch several times, which is a half hour job, but never a car. Now that I've seen what a pain it is on a car I think I'll make sure and pay someone else to do it. 🤔
Ethan, you have to return your non-car guy card now.
Respect
The confidence at 1:06 completely contradicts how he’s feeling at 10:42 😂😂 how every car enthusiast feels at 10:42
I watched Zack from donut media do the same thing,(replacing the stock clutch into a weird newer clutch in his Miata).
17:57 that quattro yea timing just perfect lol
Doesn't everyone like watching Ethan get forced to work with cars against his will. Quality content here.
Could you add a wood interior in the z3, Ethan's wood needs to be part of it
Ok guys- clutches on an awd car using jack stands in the driveway without a transmission jack is difficult.
With a lift and air tools… not actually that bad.
I love the ‘non car guy’ videos, such a great idea.
Ethan, brakes.....clutch.....I am going to buy a car for you and Alex to fix/light restore now!!!! Wowwaahweeehwaawaaah!
I was wondering what happened to this channels videos, glad to see it in my feed again with new videos in this series.
I feel like the headgasket is in dire need of replacing (by Ethan of course)
It's a BMW. It'll need one soon enough.

3:32 I don't think Ethan caught that, he was too happy with having just got that bit of climbing frame off :)
“People want to see you suffer” 🤣🤣🤣
Gareth 2021
Yes, people who enjoy other people's suffering (psychopaths).
There’s no doubting that Ethan is the star of the show here. Massive respect for tackling that when you have Alex the Disruptive around.
Anyone see a resemblance between Ethan and Harry Kane? Or is it just me 😂
Ethan is really my spirit animal for sure now! He is the true king of this channel.
The next episode should be like: can non car guy make a engine swap to a v12
The simultaneous "yeah yeah yeah yeah" at 17:58 honestly kills me😂😂
My back hurt by just watching him lift the gearbox. You really shouldn't have let him do that more than once. That was pretty dumb.
It’s all in good fun and enjoy watching these videos and I have to say as someone who likes learning how to do things on cars it’s nice to see someone learning these things. Get on Ethan! A clutch is quite a big job to be fair.
The brake light right at the start; cant Ethan change that? :P
He replaced the clutch with guidance... So I think he can replace the brake bulb too
My favourite bits of these non car guy videos is where alex and gareth tell ethan to do something and he refuses, then in the next shot he's doing it, it cracks me up
Alex making the odd short person jokes about himself is too much 😂
0:24 Don’t forget the left breaklight ;-) It’s at the back of the car on the left, Ethan. Color is red 😂
He got something in his eye from Alex moving the undertray and they still continued without goggles? Bit daft.
that should be your cue the whole thing is scripted lol
Gareth and Alex being the class clowns, Bruno being the helpful teacher and ethan being the poor student, what a brilliant episode.
Idk can we call Ethan a non-car guy anymore... we should call him an expert of the non-car guys
Wish my buddies were this "helpful". They'd just sit and watch and laugh. True friends they are
