    Bought the Maen Manhattan 37. Great watch. I believe in Maen.
    However, Hudson is at its 4th iteration. They need to do some upgrades on the clasp. On the fly adjustable clasp would be great.

    I bought a Maen Hudson 38 (MK4 no date) a little while back. The watch is truly awesome. The specs, proportions, and finishing are all excellent. It’s overall a great value prop and as far as microbrands go I’d put them right up there with Baltic. I really like the Chrono they have too.

    What I value here isn't just the (very) cool GMT this watch is, but being exposed to a watch brand I otherwise might never have known, and rather more interesting in both its origins and offerings than many others.

    I wish the lug to Lug was closer to 50 mm so it wore a little bit bigger. Unfortunately as much as I like this watch I don't think it's going to be one I can wear I have an 8.25 inch wrist. 38mm just won't look right. Great looking watch and as always love the video.

    Too small for me, but a lot to like here. I don’t love the logo marking on the dial, but the indices, rehout markings, and hand set are right-on. Good case, the bezel is nice and narrow (should be bi-directional for the price, seriously). Total strap monster, for sure, I see it on a black sailcloth. Love the use of the relatively rare Soprod movement. Very cool. One more gripe- at this price the six o’clock date window (yes!) should be color-matched. Anyway, fun review and very cool piece. Thanks, as always, for sharing!

    I was sold right up to the bezel action. 120 click unidirectional is for divers. GMT's should always have a 24 or 48 click bidirectional bezel. Microbrands far cheaper than this do it without issue. It's just lazy sourcing for brands to reuse the same bezel from their divers on their GMT's.

    • @ProperCh
      @ProperCh Год назад +1

      I agree, having a unirotating bezel on a GMT watch just puts me off straight away, Means the brand just repurposed their dive watch case and slapped a GMT bezel and movement on instead of redesigning specifically for a GMT.

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  Год назад

      It's a caller GMT, so the GMT hand jumps by the hour when setting, but the hour hand does not.

  • @johndesmond1987

    Is this a "real" GMT movement, or a "caller" movement like the Seiko NH34?

  • @ozludo
    @ozludo Год назад +3

    That's very nice - but my goodness, check out the Maen Skymaster ("coming soon"). That reverse panda is *fantastic* .
    I think Maen have a lovely design - very nice finish on the bezel too. Initially I thought the crown stood too far from the case, but then considered the diameter. Is the price right? Probably 🙂 (and in 12 months it will look like a bargain)
    There are lots of GMTs on release, and so few of them have GMT bezel springs. You're right that a 48-click bidirectional bezel is hard to source at an attractive cost. But that doesn't seem right at 7500 SEK (although Steinhart have similar prices and the same flaw).
    Off topic - missing a bidirectional bezel is not a significant issue for most owners, but it casts shade on the notion that NH34 has allowed an outpouring of designs. If that were really the case, why didn't anyone prepare? Of course, no-one seems to make 48-click bezels and 2-way springs that fit SKX cases either, and surely there's a market now?

    Unidirectional 120 click bezel on a GMT is a no-go. This is like that cheap watch tends to have a ghost date position. Except this isn't a cheap watch.

    • @derbagger22
      @derbagger22 Год назад +1

      @Bryce Kurtz am I often neurotic about things like this? Yeah. I can be. My issue is that this watch seemed to want to get all the little details right but then cheaped out on what makes a really good GMT. To see others offer cheaper GMTs with proper bidirectional bezels just makes this disappointing...

    Saw this at the Windup Watch Fair and it's great looking. It was one of the highlights of the Fair for me. Finishing is very good. The dial texture and bezel colors really work.
    The value for money is high up there, in my opinion.
    I think the bezel not being bidirectional is the only thing giving me pause from pulling the trigger...
    I would have also liked to see more prominent applied indices, but I do understand the GMT hand is working against the height of the indices, unless the whole case thickness were to be increased.

    • @andikasuhardjo4653
      @andikasuhardjo4653 Год назад

      My thoughts exactly - the looks, size, and finish are home runs but the 120-click bezel breaks some of the functionality of the piece. I'd even pay a little more if they could re-utilize this design and upgrade to Miyota's GMT movement.

    • @CombatRat
      @CombatRat Год назад

      @@andikasuhardjo4653 Yeah, I'd pay more for a proper bidirectional bezel.
      They wouldn't use a miyota movement though because Maen watches are "Swiss Made" and a Japanese movement would forego that designation.

    Do you have any issues with the finishing of the case and bracelet? I got the Manhattan 37 from them. There are lot of sharp edges on the case and bracelet. The bracelet clap really cuts into my wrist. I had to file it down. I also has issue with its dial. The color does not pop out as seen on the their website. They have a really good concept with the Manhattan 37. However, the execution is a big disappointment. I was on the lookout for the Hudson 38 and plan to get the VIP order discount. However, I won't order anything from them.

      Hi Francis, thanks for your feedback. Honestly we are a bit surprised to hear this. In fact you are the first person that mentions the quality is below expectations. We have not heard any issues with the clasp either, if you could please send us an email regarding this issue we can see what we can do. As for the color of the dial, it really depends how the light reflects on the dial, the pictures you can see on our website and Instagram are not edited so the dial definitely pops in certain conditions as advertised.

    Great size, good design, nice finishing. But for this amount of money, a bi-directional 24 or 48 click bezel and on the fly micro-adjust in the clasp are expected. Funny enough, I don't care about the Swiss movement. If this was Seiko or Miyota powered and cheaper, it'd be a very interesting option.
