- In this video, I take you along the first week of securing my first ever project as a UX Designer (eeeps, it still feels so surreal saying that)!! To be clear, it's pro bono work but we all gotta start somewhere, right?
I'm only 1.5 months into my self-learning curve so this is an opportunity for me to apply my learnings to a real life project. I've been told countless times by mentors to jump on one although I may feel incompetent because the experience will accelerate my education. So here I am!
I'll be documenting the rest of my journey with this project. So stay chuned!

I'm a Boston-based pharma scientist who is seeking to leave my industry (I'm in my early 30's and it's a huge decision to abandon a 10-year career in science). as a former full-time graphic designer, it was also a big struggle for me to encourage others to look at the underlying problems BESIDES the visuals (the outer skin of the onion). what helped me was to confidently present the simplified work and explain my design decisions so they start to believe it too. the best part of UX design is that you'll have tangible metrics of success to back it up later on. best of luck with your project!
Bro, thank you for dropping this nugget of knowledge. Yes, that's what my mentors have been advising me to do! Metrics are critical to support design ideas, and simplicity (even describing things in layman's terms) is best practice when presenting to stakeholders. I'm also learning that while you're wearing your UX design hat at the table with stakeholders, you should also be wearing a business hat... because business acumen comes in clutch with negotiation!
