Oh that’s nice, the dryer balls even match the edges of the particle board lol. Thank you for making a great video on this kit, I was looking for a good demo
I took my dual zone snare an swapped it with the 2nd tom. Now I can use the rim of the Tom for a ride, while still having the three toms. This may be an alternative option for people who want a five piece and three cymbals!
@@Swayze1997 i don't have this kit anymore, but I'm pretty sure you plug the Tom cable into the dual zone pad (the one that was the snare but is now the tom) and put the snare cord into the one that was your Tom but is now your snare. If that doesn't work, then just keep the cords the same, swap the Tom and snare, and just swap the sounds in the settings. I know you can change the rim sound independently from the normal head, so either option should work. Hope that helps!

Great video, I even let all the adds run and I've never done that. I did a floating riser just to protect my flooring so I bought a discounted box of laminate hardwood with the foam backing attached. The stuff snaps together so they require no power tools just a hammer and cheap installation tool (Plastic Block) you can get at any home depot or lowes the planks come in a box, are just shy of four feet 47.5 inches and only 10mm thick, just snap together until you have enough to cover your kits footprint. If you find damaged or otherwise discounted or discontinued material you can get a really good deal. I don't know how well the foam backed planks will dampen the vibration transfer for the people downstairs but it can be a cheap and very easy solution for people with no tools to isolate their new kit from the floor of the home they love or the rental they wish not to damage.
Great video. Also, thanks for the link to the sound list. That other manual is light years better than the one Alesis provides. That's the way the Alesis manual should have been designed.

Could you please make a short video on how to adjust the splash on the hi hat? I have gone into the settings, and tried different kits but I can't seem to get it to work. I'm starting to think my hi-hat pedal is malfunctioning? I've tried Alesis support, but haven't received any reply. Forums have also not helped. I've even done a factory reset on the kit. Maybe I'm just missing an obvious step. Thank you for this video. The versatility of this kit is the reason I bought it. Great for beginners through intermediate and up from there.
There's really no adjustment for it. Are you using a replacement hi hat pedal by chance? I've tried other hi hat controllers on the Nitro, and none of them except for the original seem to be capable of making a splash sound.
Hey dude. Thanks for posting this video. It was really helpful. I wanted to ask what the measurements of your mat is, because i have the same drum kit as you and i'm gonna get a mat myself so that would be really helpful to know :)

Hi Justin I had the same problem with the sound through my head phones!!! Too quiet!!! So what I did was went straight in to eql and cranked it up and it sounds a way lot louder now hope this helps a lot of people.
I also recommend going down and just having a chat with them. Exchange numbers and see if they can give you their schedule so you can try to play more when they're not around.
Wow it is amazing how much better you made it sound. I know this is an older video but i just ordered the surge mesh se kit do you know if it's different in the settings?
This is far and away the best video for this kit. Aside from habing to raise the height of the kit..this is really a solid kit for the money. Im gonna buy a better snare because this one doesnt have great velocity capture, ghost notes are like barely there it is like all attack on these pads. But seriously great video! I also use the left rack tom as a ride..i extend it out to make it feel closer to an acoustic kit vibe, but i never tried new pitches. You just opened up my afternoon! Thanks brother.
Did you have problems with the headphone volume being super quiet? Even when the volume control is maxed out? I even turned up each individual pad and it’s still to quiet
Great info! Any tips on how to change the actual sensitivity of the pads for MIDI purposes, and not just the pad volume for a .wav kit sound? I find that the ride cymbal hardly gets triggered at a reasonable velocity compared to other pads and it’s quite frustrating.
go to utilities SEN...sensitivity Controls how responsive a pad is when you hit it. The higher the value, the less forcefully you need to play to generate a loud hit. ...then THR..threshold Controls how forcefully you have to hit the pad to generate a sound. The higher the value, the harder you have to hit it.
Really good video to assist with making a decision on whether or not to buy this kit. But can the hihat control pedal be made to sound like a bass drum pedal, so that we have double bass and the hihats be set as open hihats?
yep, it works! I can't believe I didn't think of that, haha. FYI, you can put a double kick pedal on it, but it barely fits and the sensitivity is a bit low since the beaters are so offset from center. That's why I'm not using mine, but this is actually a great solution! Now I can copy my custom kits with a double kick version when I want to use double kick!
That's great man. Thanks for letting me know. But the double bass drum pedals are a little expensive and the cheap ones are not any good in terms of life and durability, so I was looking for an alternative. Thanks again.
Demonic Sweaters For my acoustic, yes. My Nitro mesh will be here in a week. It really cuts vibration , grips the hardware and super ends any stand movement. I’ll try will the nitro. For an apartment with people below I might add DOW foam board under it, but I really like it better than any carpet I’ve ever used.
Hi i just got the Alesis Nitro Mesh and its my first electronic kit. I've watched a lot of your videos, but I was wondering if you could do one on how to use the Module ..... I know you have one that is somewhat close to it but for a newbie, I'm lost lol,, I know how to switch sounds but that's all, the manual that comes with it is pretty vague...... if that's all possible i would soooooooo appreciate it. thanks bunches,,,,Oh btw, YOUR ROCK!!!
Thank you, I have a ton of videos on the Nitro already and plenty of videos on using the module. I also have a full manual at my website demonicsweaters.com/2019/06/alesis-nitro-mesh-kit-complete-list-of-drum-sounds-and-missing-manual/. I won't be making any more videos on the Nitro because I'm playing a different kit now.
I've downloaded your lost users manual thanks for that, but since you don't use your ride for a ride you won't be able to get that bell sound which can be achieved by striking the ride with almost the stick striking across the ride
Since I already have a bunch of drum libraries like Battery 4 and others, instead of messing with the internal sounds, I'll apply this info when assigning sounds through midi. Very useful information, thanks for sharing the manual as well, I'm going to print it and place it somewhere nearby for reference.
Great video's, I am really enjoying your content. What is the size of the Carpet that you have you Nitro Mesh sitting on? It would really help me to see if that kit would sit in my space. I thank you kindly,
Hey Justin... Let me tell you why I am contacting you. I just got an Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit and I have been watching all of your videos. THEY HAVE BEEN SOOOO HELPFUL. Thank you. I have been a guitar player my entire life, but at 70 years old I decided that I wanted to try to learn to play the drums. Since I am not really a drummer, I don't have a really good feel for what my kit should really sound like. I would appreciated it if you could tell me what YOU feel are best "sound" numbers to set each drum and cymbal for my kit to have the sound of a simple generic overall drum kit. As if I bought a basic acoustic kit. This would be much appreciated and would help me a lot. Thanks
Thanks, glad you like the videos. I don't have an answer for you though. Just pick what you like. Everyone is different. Some people are fine with the presets.
@@demonicsweaters Thanks for getting back to me so quickly I really appreciate it. I hate the presets. You do one video that your kit kind of sounds like (to my ear) is a standard acoustic kit. That's what I am looking for.... Can you give me THOSE settings. THANKS SO MUCH.
Hey man, so glad you are taking the time to make this videos. They are so complete and informative. Also, I'd like to make a question and it is if you can configure the set for a left drummer, since I'm left handed, the only thing a I haven't found online is an answer to this question. Keep it up with the great content!
Sure, I don't see why not. You'd just have to reverse the L and R parts of the rack and put the corresponding drums where they need to be. It is more or less a standard drum rack, which can be assembled pretty much any way you like. Good luck with it!
Hey Demonic Sweaters! I wanted to come by and thank you so much for your input on the MIDI issues I was having. I got it figured out for the most part. Some plugins just don't pick up the drums kit at all like expand. Boom picked up every trigger while xpand did not. BUT, I also saw this video and this was SUPER helpful! I think with what you've taught me here as well as what your other videos offer, that may be all I need. I had NO idea that there were that many sounds in the drum! Thank you SOOO much! Keep up the great video. Also you r drum playing was VERY inspiring. You're an excellent drummer!
Hi thanks for the informative video. When your recording the video do u have ear phone jack on the module plugged into your recoding device. When I try to record a drumming session directly off the mic on my phone all it picks up is the sound of hitting a rubber hi hat or ride cymbal. Thanks
Does the hi-hat have a foot splash? I’ve been trying to get mine to do it but it doesn’t seem to work. Also, can separate hi-hat combos be combined? I like the closed sound on one and the open on another. Thanks for another great vid!
It does splash, but only with the official Alesis hi hat controller. Your second question, yes there separate hi hat sounds you can combine, you have to get out of the hi hat groups.
Thanks for the upload! Could you please share the measurement of your raised base? I am planning on buying this edrum and obviously will need to make a base kinda like the one you have. Thanks in advance
Excellent video! I just picked up this kit about 3 months ago and I am really enjoying playing it and your videos have really helped me explore all the possibilities. My question is I am looking into giving virtual drum lessons using Alesis Nitro and a Chromebook. I have a Simmons drum amp and I could purchase a webcam but I'm afraid that might make too much noise for the neighbors. I wasn't sure whether there is a way I can plug directly into the Chromebook and give lessons over the internet. Anyway thanks for the excellent videos and keep up the great work! And I have to agree with someone else who posted a comment about how terrible the rimshot sound is I totally agree and have changed it!
Glad to be of service! As far as I know chromebooks allow you to use USB audio interfaces such as this one amzn.to/2R6dA74 and you could use that for the audio and the webcam on the Chomebook. I’m not sure what the options are as far as video (if that’s what you were thinking) chat since I haven’t used Chrome OS in a long time. If you wanted to have a mic going at the same time, maybe just get a little mixer with USB like this one. amzn.to/37P08dX
Great vids! What are the dimensions of the rug and boards you're using for your drum riser? They seem like a perfect fit. I'm using a standard drum rug now but it's far too big. I'm trying to do the same thing but I'm using a 2" memory foam pad in place of the dryer balls/tennis balls.
Not being funny, but if I connect the foot pedal controller to the snare drum slot, will the foot pedal play like the snare drum? I've only got one arm so I have to play Rick Allen style!

Who says you can't sound great on a cheap kit? You're pretty awesome! I'll bet you could keep up with some Steely Dan songs pretty well.
Thanks man!
Great video. Thank you very much for this!
Looks like that’s not the original kick pedal that comes with the kit. What are you using?
It’s a PDP
Is there any rubber in the dryer balls?
Usually when neighbors bang on the wall it's cause they can't hear the music an want you to turn it up. 😊
Haha, true. Yep they’re made from a rubber-like material.
awesome video mate! best one out there for the kit
Did you have problems with the headphone volume being super quiet? Even when the volume control is maxed out? I even turned up each individual pad and it’s still to quiet
Yes! I can't figure it out either
make sure ur headphones dont have a mic that quited mine a lot then i used my beats and it was so much louder
Thanks for the info and help
The higher the value, the
less forcefully you need to play to generate a loud hit. ...then THR..threshold Controls how forcefully you have to hit the pad to generate a sound. The higher the value, the harder you have to hit it.
Phenomenal video! Pretty much everything I've need to know about using this kit. Big Thanks!
Thanks for doing this video. It was extremely helpful!
Really good video to assist with making a decision on whether or not to buy this kit. But can the hihat control pedal be made to sound like a bass drum pedal, so that we have double bass and the hihats be set as open hihats?
That's a great question, I'll try it!
yep, it works!
Tractor Supply sells a thick rubber mat for horse stalls cheap. Can be cut up.
Oh yeah? Have you tried one?
Demonic Sweaters For my acoustic, yes. My Nitro mesh will be here in a week. It really cuts vibration , grips the hardware and super ends any stand movement. I’ll try will the nitro. For an apartment with people below I might add DOW foam board under it, but I really like it better than any carpet I’ve ever used.
Thank you for helping me with my kit. You rock
You look like the divorced 40 year old guy on tinder
That actually doesn't matter. The cymbals on the Nitro are single zone. The bell is activated by how hard you hit.
Great vid thank you, have you experienced any difficulties with the hi hat pedal ? I just received my Nitro kit and the pedal is very inconsistent
Can you tell me the cymbal settings you settled on at the end there?
I have the Alesis Nitro Max and I am a new drummer. Is there a "print out" of all the suggested settings and how to get there?
Not that I know of. Also the Max is a completely different drum kit.
I know this is an old video, but do you know those cymbal settings?
Great video! Have you tried playing it through some software like ezdrummer or something? how`s the velocity playing out?
You are a hell of a drummer, you need a strike Pro!
Thank you. I’m really happy you are getting some useful info out of my vids and the inspiration is a total awesome bonus!
Hey there, great video(s)! Thanks for sharing your experience. What size is your mat?
Hi thanks for the informative video. When your recording the video do u have ear phone jack on the module plugged into your recoding device. When I try to record a drumming session directly off the mic on my phone all it picks up is the sound of hitting a rubber hi hat or ride cymbal. Thanks
Sorry I just got my answer at end of video
If you set your ride as a crash, can you choke it?
Only if you set it on the chokable cymbal pad, the one on your left.
You can make that isolating pad only under your pedals and tower btw. This will make all other pieces stable and not wobble
Is there a link for the sounds? Would love to have that list of the sounds.
www.alternativedrummer.com/2019/06/alesis-nitro-mesh-kit-complete-list-of.html
I wonder if you got two of these and put them together, if it would make an ultimate kit?
Does the hi-hat have a foot splash? I’ve been trying to get mine to do it but it doesn’t seem to work.
Also, can separate hi-hat combos be combined? I like the closed sound on one and the open on another.
Thanks for another great vid!
It does splash, but only with the official Alesis hi hat controller. Your second question, yes there separate hi hat sounds you can combine, you have to get out of the hi hat groups.
@@demonicsweaters ah that makes sense about the combos. I’m using the Alesis controller, the whole kit is stock. I wonder what the deal is?
@@demonicsweaters thanks again. I figured out the splash. You just have to do it super fast!
Thanks for the upload! Could you please share the measurement of your raised base? I am planning on buying this edrum and obviously will need to make a base kinda like the one you have. Thanks in advance
It’s 3x4 feet exactly!
@@demonicsweaters thanks for the quick reply. Keep up the good work!
@@demonicsweaters thank you so much for the quick response I will definitely look into those options.
Great vids! What are the dimensions of the rug and boards you're using for your drum riser? They seem like a perfect fit. I'm using a standard drum rug now but it's far too big. I'm trying to do the same thing but I'm using a 2" memory foam pad in place of the dryer balls/tennis balls.
4x3 foot
that drum riser is a hell of an idea ! thank you, when i finally got the kit, i'm gonna use this.
Not being funny, but if I connect the foot pedal controller to the snare drum slot, will the foot pedal play like the snare drum? I've only got one arm so I have to play Rick Allen style!
You can just program the hi hat pedal as a snare, you don't need to change inputs.
HI JUSTIN - GREAT VIDEO - REALLY HELPFUL IN SQUEEZING BETTER SOUNDS FROM THIS SUPER KIT ! I HAVE JUST BOUGHT ONE AND INVESTED IN THE ALESIS 14 INCH SNARE BUT ICAN'T SEE HOW TO CORRECTLY ADJUST TENSION ? ? ? ALSO WHAT STICKS ARE YOU USING PLEASE JUSTIN ? THEY LOOK TO BE LONGER THAN STANDARD STICKS ? ? ? KEEP THE VIDEO'S COMING PLEASE ! CHEERS - EDDIE ( UK WANNABEE DRUMMER ! )
If it's a mesh head snare, a standard drum key should be able to adjust the tension. The sticks in this video are Aquarian X-10 drum sticks amzn.to/2GPERbe. Happy drumming!
@@demonicsweaters Hi Justin - Thanks for your quick reply !
Sorry if I misled you - I meant to ask what the correct tension should be. Cheers ! Best Regards - Eddie
I just got this kit and your video help me a lot, thanks you so much.
glad to help
Which voices are the toms from 08:50 to 09:00?
I think those were the 1976 toms, see the manual for sound listings at www.alternativedrummer.com/2019/06/alesis-nitro-mesh-kit-complete-list-of.html
What are your rags dimensions? Thanks
And by the way your videos are really helpful. Like the way you explain in detail. Keep them videos coming.
glad to help
Nice video, do you know if you can set the hi hat to closed and if so, how?
Same way you change any sound. You press 'pad' then hit the hi hat open, then press the up/down arrows until you get the sound you want. You can program any pad to any sound you want.
@@demonicsweaters Thank you very much. Best video out there on how to use the module that I've found.
Thanks for sharing this.
do you think studio foam could work if you put it between a carpet or maybe your method but replacing the balls with the foam
Tennis balls actually seem to work the best. Foam could work if it were the right kind with vibration absorbing particles.
How does the frame look so steady? I tighten down a lot and the snare post still comes loose and everything seems to move so easily even when cranked down. Am I doing something wrong? Nice video btw
I never had a problem with mine
Great Video! My Hi Hat is a lil' unresponsive sometimes especially when playing quick doubles. Any idea on how to fix that? Thanks.
did you try adding an extra felt? Also, make sure the cable is tight.
