  • Have you ever wanted to build your own missions like those we fly in the Grim Reapers?
Well in this series I will make a new campaign from start to finish to show you how we do it.
In Part 1 we are setting up CAP for Day1/Mission 1 of the campaign.

I decide on the level of panic I want Cap to have, and go from there.

I start by coming up with something simple that i can make in 4 hours which somehow evolves to weeks and weeks of effort, getting progressively more complex as i keep coming up with new ideas to delay me finishing the damn thing

    A few notes on my mission-making thought process;
    1. Inspiration
    - Real historical events, scenes from a movie/book, nick ideas from other people's missions, expand on a quick practice mission...
    2. What's the big idea?
    - Long range bombing, tank battle with CAS, attack a naval convoy, intercept bombers...
    3. Setting
    - WWII, Cold War, Gulf War, Modern
    - Which map?
    - What's the current situation?
    4. Secondary and Tertiary objectives
    - Throw in some extra A-A or A-G objectives
    - Don't cram everything into one part of the map
    - Something useful for helicopters to do?
    - What if someone dies early in the mission?
    5. Easter eggs
    - Flight callsigns, unit names
    - Campaign characters
    - Throwaway details in the briefing notes
    6. Decoration
    - Intel photos, screenshots, maps, kneeboards

Well this is why we love your missions so much. Papers Please was one of my favorite campaigns for a while, the story and mission detail was just a different level.

Hi. Did you ever make any other videos in this series? Thanks

There is another video like this with the FARP thumbnail. It was made around the same time.

Do you choose a specific decade to have a rough time frame or is it a mix of different weapons and bandits?

That is another consideration. Usually, each campaign is set in a specific era or has weapon restrictions/supply limits to make the missions harder/easier.
I will be talking about these in the air-to-ground video.
