There's some disagreement about J. None being part of the group. He was, and did leave because the US Navy Choir asked him to sing with them. But I just consider him to still be a group member, but one on sabbatical of sorts. Great reaction! Might I also recommend you check out some of Geoff's solo stuff?
I think of him as being on hiatus until his military stint is over.
@@nightthornkvala94132 Yeah, me too. Oh, I forgot to mention the Naval Choir has J singing LEAD! This is no small thing!
We appreciate the information about J.None and will get round to Geoffs channel 😊
@@nightthornkvala94132 He’s said he views the Navy is a career to him. So I wouldn’t expect his “stint” to be over until retirement.
@@Gael4ce Oh, I hadn't heard that. So I guess we'll still get the rotation of wonderful 5th members in their videos.
Geoff uses his hands quite a bit. He actually has calmed down because he used to drop his entire shoulder when he dropped a Subharmonic note. One of the things I love most about voiceplay is that I finally can understand all the lyrics to songs I've known for years. Their diction is so clear
Fully agree with that. Amazing
He's Italian so you know... if you tied his hands he wouldn't be able to talk let alone sing lol
Did you notice after Cesar's solo (with Geoff finishing the line), they ALL sang a note in unison?
Love when Geoff jumps up with the other guys and no one notices.
Absolutely beautiful
You have good hearing! I had to spend a lot of time listening to Geoff's solo stuff to fully know his voice. Now I can hear his voice in the higher registers as he harmonizes with the rest. Not many people can catch this!
Layne earned the nickname VioLayne after his first violin performance. Also, the hand gestures are used to 'guide' the pitch when they sing. It seems more prominent with VoicePlay than other acapella groups, but if you watch Geoff enough, you'll know when he's going sub-terrainian.
VioLayne is a great name 😂
Most A Cappella basses use the hand gestures. Check out Tim Foust with Home Free
This performance was blowing away every reactor when it was released.
It is absolutely incredible 😲
J.None was inVP for years until 2021 when he was approached by the US navy to sing with their music dept. He comes back when he's on leave from his duties. :). The hand movements are rather like conducting your voice. Also he's of Italian heritage and we know how Italians talk with their hands. Often he can be seen playing air bass gutar when he's doing that with his voice. And yes it's Geoff, (Jeff) short for Geoffrey. You must have seen other Geoffreys. And he impresses most people with his bass notes.
Thank you for the info 😊 I know Jeff's and Jefferys but Geoffery is a first for us 😊
@@highlyreactivereactions You probably never heard of Geoffrey Chaucer, author of the Canterbury Tales, but you may know of Geoff Boycott the cricketer? Or Geoff Duke, British multiple motorcycle Grand Prix road racing world champion?
I'm not really a big Metallica fan, but for me this is one of voiceplays masterpieces. Its so good, and geoff arranged this one! 😊💜💜
This was an amazing cover tbf 😊
@@highlyreactivereactionsif you listen to Geoff carefully you’ll notice he’s singing the bass line from the original Metallica version.
Layne is a very accomplished violinist and it was fantastic he got to use it in this video ❤🏴
He definitely was impressive
"That was done with violins." Oh really? **Secret Grin**
😂😂 it does work really well with violins
Another honest, great reaction. Keep them up guys! It's great watching people just enjoy great talent. I'm partial to Voiceplay - I love their sense of humour, varied song choice and sense of theatre.
"Boy Bands in 5 Minutes" is one of their older tracks and you'll see Earl (a previous member) in that. Their "Little Mermaid Medley" is great fun and you'll actually hear Layne sing in that one. I've got a soft spot for their "Shape of You/No Diggity" mash-up (also earlier). "Hoist the Colours", "Bang" and "Carry on My Wayward Son" also showcase some amazing guest artists. And finally (for now), "If I Were a Rich Man/Girl" is Caesar's first song with them as an official member.
That should keep you busy for a bit. 😁
Hello from South Africa 🇿🇦 by the way.
#voiceplay
Thank you so much for those kind words and information. We appreciate it and mad respect to you 🇿🇦
One of my favourites from them - what a fantastic arrangement... I bought it as soon as I heard it. I feel the same about "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. Thanks for the reaction. PS: they were all in Black because the song came from the Black album... 🌹
Well spotted 😊
J None was the baritone for VoicePlay when the US Navy approached him and recruited him into the Navy Chorus (very rare). He's about half way through his 5 yr stint. He has recently been promoted, moved from Seattle to Washington DC which makes it easier for him to slip down to Orlando and do another video. Their Halloween video is Hellfire with J None. It's from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Thought you might enjoy that one as well as In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Creep (RadioHead), Seven Nation Army (White Stripes), Drunken Sailor, and Whiskey in the Jar.
Thank you for that information 😊
This is one of the few Metallica songs I like. They did a great job of covering it.
Once again, a great reaction. You had me laughing again. 😃 Thank you 😊
Glad we made you smile Tina and thank you for the kind words. This defintely was an amazing cover
Another great reaction guys!! One of my absolute favorites from #VoicePlay. They absolutely did #Metallica proud with this cover of #NothingElseMatters.
This certainly was an amazing track 😊
Yes. One of their absolutely best covers. Loving the VoicePlay journey with you guys.
We have been loving it 😊
Geoff taught Layne to beatbox at the start - and he has just become amazing at it! J None is in the Navy in the choral groups - and recently transferred AND will be doing bass! I am sure Geoff has helped him with training that skill. Would love to see your reaction to Oogie Boogie or Queen in 5 Minutes! They are soo talented!
Thank you for sharing that info 😊
If you have Italian genes, the hands are connected to the mouth. You don't even notice the hand gestures. My dad used to do that even when talking on the phone with someone.
Haha love that
We should see more of J None since he’s now stationed on the east coast instead of San Diego. Since VP is in Florida it should be easier for them to collaborate
Sounds awesome 😊
To me as an old matalica fan in my youth , this felt like a love song to the song.
Couldn't agree more Liz 😊
I just found your channel. J-None was a part of the group but left for the Navy. Now he does recurring songs with them as his schedule lets him. I LOVE this rendition of this song. My Son's are huge Metallica fans and they had great appreciation for the way they handled the instrumental beginning of the song. I really enjoyed watching the way y'all have truly gotten into the song. Your expressions are priceless. I also love that Layne sings most of the song. THEN VIO-LAYNE begins while beatboxing. The growl noise came from him.
Welcome to the channel and thank you for sharing the info 😊
And VioLayne breaks more reactors. He also played the violin in Warriors. He's been playing since he was 4 years old. He's now 42 (43 next month). Geoff 43. Eli 44. Cesar 36. J None 38.
J None was a member from 2018-2021. He left to sing with the US Navy Choir. Hopefully the plans are he'll rejoin after his time in 3 years. Most fans including myself consider him a member just on hiatus. He was stationed in Washington State until a couple months ago when he got promoted to Musician 1 from Musician and restationed in Washington DC. Now he's closer to do more videos with them.
Eli is short for Eliezer.
This video genre was nicknamed Metallicapella.
We will have to check it out
@@highlyreactivereactions
Cool 😎
Eli rhymes with jelly. Layne is also known as VioLayne. He's classically trained violinist, and he and J None pulled out the violins in Warriors but that was 3 yrs ago. We had to wait that long to get his violin back again. Have you reacted to Hellfire yet? Or Geoff's solo of Jack's Lament?
It's short for Eliazer, and I know I screwed up the spelling. I can never remember the correct way. But you get the point. It's pronounced as part of the whole word.
Adored watching your brains explode 😅. Keep up the #VoicePlay! They are so great.
If you notice, they all move their hands up and down and have some gestures......Tim and Austin from Home Free do it too, plus Adam the beatboxer.........its a singer thing, i think.
All part of expression and passion I believe 😊
The intro they did is the full instrumental intro to the song. The violin came in for the guitar solo
They nailed this one very well 😊
Hi guys! Yeah, most still consider J.None as a part of the group - he joined in 2018, but was asked (!) to go and sing with the US Navy, so many of us are hoping he will be back once his 5 year service is up, he joins them whenever he is on leave, which is why he pops up fairly often! Here for all of it! #voiceplay I'll second any requests for 'In The Air Tonight' and 'If I Were A Rich Man/Girl'...!!
Hopfully he will. He certainly has the talent and well respected by the fans
Why does Geoff (Jeff) move his hands so much when he sings or when he talks. DUH! He's Italian. That's why he named all his clones with the different spellings of Geoff. #J. None. Joined the Navy in 2021 for 5 years. He received a promotion a few months ago. So the Navy moved him from the Westcoast, Seattle, Washington to the Eastcoast Washington DC. He is now just a short flight away from Orlando, Florida. For their cover of HELL FIRE, he flew down in the morning did the video, and then flew home that evening. Love the surprise ending with the HELLO VOILAYNE!
Okay - I'm sure this was just a typo - but I get of a kick out of VOILAYNE instead of Violayne. VOILA as in like TaDa! Especially considering what a surprise the violin entrance was!
😂😂 very true. Thanks for the info
Cover of Imagine Dragons song Warriors has Layne AND J None playing violin, also includes earlier member Earl Elkins (not Cesar), one of my favorites.
Thank you for the recommendation
There have been light hints that J-None might possibly rejoin the group full-time once he completes his service with the Navy.
No, there were comments that were misunderstood. He said only that he’d be back - and he has been. As a guest.
He has also said he views the Navy as a career.
People are hearing what they want, not what was said.
That will be cool 😊
#voiceplay. I absolutely adore this group. I'm not a huge Metallica fan but I love their cover of this song.
They defintely smashed it. Loved it
They are always amazing! Great reaction!
Thanks again!
Geoff finally names his clones in his cover of the song "Way Down" using all the mis-spellings of his name. Then in "Ghost Riders" he adds Darryl 🤣. For a great intro to all the amazing artists that Voiceplay has collaborated with try "Just Sing'. Voiceplay made it during the pandemic in aid of the artists that lost work. Watch it with the captions ON for artist intros and bonus snark. Always, always watch Geoff and Voiceplay with captions and until the credits, they often add a little humor to the captions and bonus video to the end credits.
Haha sounds amazing. Appreciate the advice 😊
#PENTATONIX GOT THAT GIRL TONE THATS WHY BOTH GROUPS ARE MAGICAL
I bout lost my mind when they released this one, lol. It's so crazy good!
Geoff (Jeff) once said they started moving their hands to show who was singing and what they were doing with their voices so people watching could follow who was doing what. His Italian nature just took over from there. 🤣
Once you guys start reacting to Christmas stuff, there's 2 that gotta make that list... VoicePlay's "Grinch" (it's so good and makes me nostalgic for the old cartoon. Geoff loved Thurl Ravenscroft growing up and that really came through). And then Geoffs solo cover of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
This one was very much amazing. Thank you for the recommendations aswell. Cant wait for the Xmas tracks to come 😊
An iconic song performed beautifully! I remember being a little shocked the first time I watched when Layne brought in that electric violin and played it with a passion! Love this cover!!
Pretty much many a cappella bass singers and beatboxers use their hands to , as you said, to either help keep rhythm or emulate the drum movement. Tim is a little more subtle at times. Chance does it, as well when he’s singing bass.
I think you two said you are gamers. Check out Voice Play’s cover of the music from Halo! It’s epic!!
It defintely was absolutely amazing
❤❤
If you watch Jeff sing "Ghost Riders in the Sky" on his own channel, you will see five of him all with a different spelling of his name apart from Daryl!!
Love that!
#violayne
Loving the journey down the #voiceplay rabbit hole with you guys. 👏🏻
We appreciate you joining us 😊
I've been waiting for this one - knew you'd be blown away (but we all were, so....) Completely enjoyed it! Voice teachers have mentioned that moving your hands while singing is really helpful as a memory aide.
Now you're going to have to watch Geoff's cover of Elvis' Way Down. Check the name tags on each of the Geoff clones...you'll be properly entertained!
Haha yeah this certainly was mind blowing
The hand gestures might have a bit to do with Geoff being of Italian (I think?) descent they are known for talking with their hands. There are a few numbers from both Home Free and Voice Play where they add an instrument here or there mostly on the solo work from members.
From what we have seen of the comments it sounds about right 😊
You do know that Geoff beatboxs on the side so he can take over some of the beatboxing as required :)
Thats amazing! Thank you for sharing
Knew this was going be exciting befire even watching it. Almost everyone breaks when Layne is tossed the violin.
Fun fact J None didn't know until the day they meet up to shot the video that Layne was going to play.
You should also check out Geoff's Solo Channel he has some amazing covers that he clones himself to sing.
Since its almost Christmas season you should check out
Christmas Don't Be Late (the Chipmunk Song)
Mission: Jingle Bells
Your a Mean One Mr Grinch
White Christmas
What do You Get a Wookie for Christmas
(And many more)

Thanks again for the reaction 🙂
Thank you for those recommendations 😊
I really enjoy the kind of your reactions - especially to Voiceplay - always here for it - also if you would dive into Geoff's solo art 😉
So many details, you are able to recognize on the first listening, wow!

Great Reaction to an epic Acapella Group #voiceplay#
I would recommend Warrior's by Voiceplay
Thank you for the kind words and recommendations
"why does geoff move his hands so much?"
*he's Italian*
If you really, REALLY want low bass, then react to Tim Foust & Peter Hollens cover of “Misty Mountains”! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
Can't wait for that one 😊
This was only the second time the violin was used in a performance. They normally use no instruments, as normal for most a cappella performers.
Yeah but it is a nice treat when they do cause it proper throws you off 😂
😊
Here for you.

Thank you so much Dawn 😊
There one other song that J.None and Layne has the Violin in the song. Love your Reaction.
We will have to check it out
I enjoyed your reaction- thanks! I think you would love Voice Play's cover of "Warriors" (both Layne and J None play violins in that one). Also, you will love Voice Play's "In The Air Tonight".
Thank you so much for the kind words and recommendations 😊
#VoicePlay Great reaction,
Thank you so much
This is absolutely amazing. It was giving me chills. Love your reactions!!
Thank you so much!!
If you like video games, they doing a version of Halo theme (with no word and it s just 🤯🤯🤯)
We will have to check it out 😊
J.None is amazing (as is Voiceplay, obviously) - one of my favorites by him is, "Friends on the Other Side"! Stunning cover of the, "Princess and the Frog" song!!!
Also, for more cool shaky cam movements, they did my favorite ever cover of, "Phantom of the Opera" 😍😍
We will have to check it out
Since you like bass singers so much, you should check out Bass Gang. It is a group of 4 bass singers from around the world who started performing together few years ago. I recommend their "Hooked on a Feeling" featuring Tim Foust.
Thats sounds amazing!
This VP song is still my favorite. I think, it's the best arrangement of Geoff until now, a real masterpiece.
They said, they did the solo part with vocals only, but they liked the violin (VioLayne) sound a little more, a better match for the song - and of course it's quite a surprise for the viewers, too. That is always a part of their creations. They surprise with setting expectations - and twist them all around. I love VP for that, too.
They defintely have serious talent no can deny that. Loved it
Creep! Amazing
Out soon 😊
Check out Warriors by Voiceplay to see Laynes amazing talent with the violin.
Recorded and will be out very soon 😊

💯
For more VioLayne check out Warriors. 🥰
Thank you for that recommendation
Geoff(rey) sounds like Jeff, conduct both himgself and the others.
Thank you 😊
Geoffs hands.. if you watch Homefree Tim does the same :-) Great reaction - with Voiceplay I just really want a good one where they let Eli cut free with the rock god voice completely... they do it to a point here but.. more please?
Noted! We will check it out
Love the reaction. Check our Geoff Castelucci's channel if you want to hear some more bass singing. Suggest his cover of "Sixteen Tons" or "Over the Misty Mountains". to start off with.
Thank you for the recommendation
Why does Geoff move his hands like that? He's a mage, and he's casting spells on the audience.
Facts 😂

A lot of people sing with their hands, like talking with their hands.
Very true

Geoffrey is a very traditional way of spelling Jeffrey He still makes the same sound as Je, why the O, I haven't a clue. Why do Canadians spell colour and honour with a u in it yet Americans leave it out? Geoff's last name seems to indicate Italian ancestry. What is the spelling of the name around the Mediterranean region and what is it in the South of the USA?
Learn something new every day. Didnt have a scooby doo 😂
Also, Lee J, can u plz try to not bite your nails ????.....it's quite irritating.......try some tricks to stop, you can if you give it a try......idk how, but i'm sure u can find tips on the web for how to quit doing that.
😂 thank you for the advice, it's a bad habit
