When I was 15 I found a French cookbook in the school library and decided to be ambitious and make a fancy meal for my family. Flan was what I made for dessert and I was so proud of myself when it came out right.

Any other Brazilians here? We make something very similar here called Pudim, but it's made with sweetened condensed milk, eggs and milk and it's made in a blender. Very very common dessert. I love seeing other culture's renditions of this!

Being Hispanic flan is something that i love. It was always present during birthday parties and it's still one of my all time favorite desserts, also a wonderful version/variation is coffee flan as the coffee adds an amazing depth of flavor

My grandma and my mom makes this during occasions or randomly, we usually love to eat it warm because the taste of the caramel and the creamy texture really go together, but we also eat it chilled. We usually make it in big bowls so that it could be served as whole to guests who can cut it to how big they like. Really great and simplified recipe with the Legend Dominique himself.

My grandmother has been making this for longer than I have been alive and she legit just calls it pudding. She refuses to even register that this is not what a pudding is.
I mean, pudding means different things depending on where you grew up. Pudding to me is chocolate flavored oobleck, but if I go to a bubble tea shop its basically this but probably made with gelatin or ajar ajar, and pudding in Europe is a meat patty thing.

Just made these the other day, and I tell ya a rice cooker (the ones not only just for rice but also for steaming things in general eg. a Tatung rice cooker) makes these PERFECT! One steam and it comes out completely smooth with hardly any bubbles you see on the sides. Always how my mom made them and they were the best. Key is to pull them out when it still feels like it just set-- they harden up more as they cool.
You guys don’t even understand the finesse of one hand egg cracks. That’d be one of my biggest flexes in the kitchen. At the end of the day, it’s truly your hands that are your tools

I just wanted to pop in to say i used the caramel in this recipe to make the caramel for my brother’s birthday cheesecake and it turned out amazing, as a visual learner i want to thank you for helping me and others like me make amazing food

@@dancearoundtheworld5360 Haven't made flan with chocolate, but if you can make flan, it can't be that hard to pour a little chocolate on it and let it firm up before the flip. I'll try it next time.
