This is a very lovely rug, complex color mix and pleasing design. Thanks for sharing.
For those who don't want to pay for rug cleaning, here is the DIY method that many carpet people use too:
1. You can clean rugs yourself - spread on driveway on shady day - hose down, gently brush with diluted woolite, squeegee soap off, rinse, squeegee, and repeat rinse cycle multiple times. Then leave on sloped driveway to dry away from sun.
2. I did not like the quick fix on the missing square of rug. Professional rug sellers would repair that with knotted wool just like the original, and weave in some flat jute backing, then do knots on it. There are no shortcuts in life.
Thank you for the cleaning advice.
OH NO!! This is a horror film!! They took a small hole and turned it into a giant square using "authentic magic markers from Walmart!" I am going to have nightmares all night about this horrible job!!
This can't be real; must be a parody. No self respecting carpet repairer would use glue & magic markers?!
@@weeroonafarm5981 he paid $400 for the rug. the hole is not THAT big. Rewearing probably would be more than $400, plus, around here, professional cleaning is around $4/sq. foot. i have a friend who duct taped a corner of a rug, but it is hidden under furniture.,
@C. Lord for some people, money is no object!
Not a restoration by any stretch of imagination! I felt so sorry for the owner for having to accept that as restoration for such a beautiful piece of art! I would have repaired that for free just to save the rug from being cut out like that.
Why don't you put up a video to show how?
I completely agree with you I would not pay for this and I also would do it completely for free just so it wouldn't be destroyed I think the same way when I see a decaying mansion on the side of the road being turned into an apartment people just don't know how to do the same craftsmanship anymore
THE CARPET IS NOT A "HERATI". THE CARPET IS A MALAYER FROM THE HAMADAN AREA. THE PATTERN IS HERATI.
That's no repair, you made a bigger hole, glued a piece of crapric in the hole and drew on it with a marker. You made it worse,
Video is entitled " How To Repair An Oriental Rug"
Answer: Send it to a professional.
Not much of a "How To..." video !
Pity the owner of the beautiful Persian rug, no need to cut a hole. It was a matter of weaving the wool / silk threads back into the rug. Wow, if that’s professional I think I’ll do my own repairs.
My family has been in the Oriental Rug business since 1929. That is not a repair...more like a hatchet job. A proper repair would be to mount the area with a weaving frame, re-insert cotton warp and weft as a true foundation and then hand knot ghiordes or sehna knots depending on the type of rug or the actual knot used in the rug. Our firm has only glued a thin canvas on the back of a rug as a very last resort if the rug is brittle and falling apart and you are trying to save the look of the rug...however, this completely ruins its value.
Exactly true!
P. Allen, I am surprised that you even did this video. You can't cut corners with plants, so why with a beautiful rug?
So you decided to go out and invest in a antique carpet that is a BIG investment. Why cut corners if you want to preserve the the carpet and the value of said carpet you should send it out and have it re-weaved, in for a penny in for pound.
That's amazing how they clean the rugs, too. I never knew that. I just wish you would have shown the repaired and clean rug laid out for us! :(
Great Ideas! May I please ask you the color of your family room?? I love it!!
Not every rug is worth expensive professional repair, but is still attractive over all .
You sure are blessed to have that rug shop to clean and repair your nice rug. Looks great.
What! A patch! Alla Akbar.
My puppy chewed a hole in my wool area rug. He didn't chew out the backing.I was hoping to learn how to latch in matching wool. This video was no help.
That's horrible!
Why cut it smh

Too much about purchase price, size etc and not concentrating ONLY on repairs. Too much irrelevant chat.
Helo
Sad. Now the rug is truly messed up. Clean, but messed up.
🤣
Go to Stodoys page and learn how to do it.
That is NOT a repair!!! Do NOT let someone cut away and replace it with another piece and then color it with marker. Find a professional rug repairer
That's just to put e patch and drew on 🤔it's not restoration 👎
That repair is exactly what you shouldn't do to repair an antique carpet
That’s not the way to repair that rug. As l am antique rugs and kilim repairman. Believe me l do the best you don’t need to paint on it. If u have a rug just contact with me

That patch, yikes. Hiw to ruin thr value of a priceless rug.
Is this a joke?
It is not a professional oriental rug repair at all, you ruin the whole rug valued, it is horrible, it is a shame, why you are doing something you don't anything about that.
Gosh, what a pathetic 'repair'.....
