    The probability that the Diamonds were a race of older gem beings and they were the last of this generation? Hence why the gems are created to serve their specific Diamonds.

    I think it's also worth mentioning that two gems (Lapis Lazuli and Rose Quartz) have demonstrated the ability to create semi-conscious constructs out of natural materials (water and plant life, respectively). Lapis could arguably colonize a water-rich planet on her own with little help from other gems.

    I think they look humanoid because they take the shape of the whatever life form is dominant in whatever part of the galaxy they are in. It would be the best way to have at least all the advantages of their immediate competition. They way they adapt to the gravity of whatever planet they encounter may be an extension of this.

    • @AJUniverse
      @AJUniverse  8 лет назад +8

      Then explain Homeworld Gems, back on Homeworld, who are humanoid despite being in a different galaxy.

    • @AJUniverse
      @AJUniverse  8 лет назад +12

      And the fact that the frame work that appears whenever any Gem regenerates is humanoid.

    • @leiflepton3993
      @leiflepton3993 8 лет назад

      I figured that when they showed Yellow diamond and her pearl that they were on some near by space station, but I suppose they could have been on Home World. As for the human frame, it could have been calculated to look human simply because they are on earth. The corrupted gems seem to be examples of this process failing, because they have a lot of characteristics of other Earth life forms. Even if the writers did not mean for this to happen, I still like the idea because it makes more sense for me.

    Something that I feel is wrong with your theory is that the gems aren't connected to their "original" home world. I feel that you're on the right track with the Von Newman theories. I just feel that they would be with their original home world. My idea of how it happened is that what we now know as diamonds were the first gems used by thus mystery humanoid race. But instead of going out and colonizing another home world. They'd instead go terminator on their creators once they reached self awareness. After their war, only 4 diamonds were left (the diamond hierarchy). But since the diamonds take so much energy and resources to make, they had to compartmentalize their gems (creating specialized purposed gems). Eventually they had to go out and colonize other planets to maintain their replications. Things were going great. Then Earth rebelled. After that, I think they had other rebellions popping up on other colonies (hint Jasper saying the first gem war). With resources getting even tighter, they had to compartmentalize their gems even more to sustain their resources (hint era 2 gems). This could all be curve balled with the resource crisis being a fake though. But similar idea. Different history from the creation.

    • @jameso322
      @jameso322 8 лет назад +5

      this is similar to what i was thinking because it makes sense about them possibly rebelling against their creators

    • @mortarion9813
      @mortarion9813 8 лет назад +2

      This actually fits with what I think. What if there have been multiple rebellions after Earth's? And what if there are still rebellions until now? (Hint the use of older gem tech) Or it might just be because they're recovering. But still. What if more and more are rising up? And if there are, what if they are seperated. Or they're different isolated reellions? And if not, then do they ever get to meet up?

    • @teengamerboss888
      @teengamerboss888 8 лет назад

      SCII RapterNew I don't think that they're having rebellions right now because if they were then why focus on earth at all? They're short on resources and they made a contingency plan to deal with them. You could say that's why they sent peridot. But if they hadn't sent any gems to earth then everyone wouldn't know about it then die.

    • @teengamerboss888
      @teengamerboss888 8 лет назад +2

      Extraordinary Adventurer Augustus I do too. But I think that if they did bring in a new alien species then it'd probably be a precursor type role (halo lore). In the lore of halo, they have a species that made the galaxy the way it is in terms of its political landscape. But you don't hear much from them in the actual games or in current lore. What I'm getting at is that they'd bring in a new species for world building and exposition purposes rather than have actual relevance to the present day plot.

    But in all seriousness, it's also possible that the gems' original planet had totally different evolutionary forces than our own, forces that didn't necessitate proteins to hold autonomous life or intelligence. Instead, crystalline structures. This way, there doesn't have to be a creator race or a long process of biotech integration/migration. I usually prefer simpler explanations.... But I Loved this video, it got me thinking. :)

  • @eliscore
    @eliscore 8 лет назад +24

    that's not true. steven is half gem. the projection of the gems must have dna. Thats why gems are able to blush, shed tears etc. and that's why rose isn't comming back. the code/dna that was rose was written into gregs reproductive materials. hence, if steven doesnt have roses dna, he would just be a clone of greg

    • @cauchyhorizon5983
      @cauchyhorizon5983 8 лет назад +8

      Wait, how does being able blush and shed tears mean Gems have DNA? Blushing and shedding tears may be biological functions, but so are walking, talking and eating, and we know that Gems can do those. Gems act like biological beings all the time, but we're always reminded that they aren't, and that Gems just mimic the functions of an organism.
      Also, Rose isn't coming back because Steven has her Gem, which contains Rose's code.

    • @Enderdragon1201
      @Enderdragon1201 7 лет назад +2

      The Improbable Space Neither walking nor talking are inherently biological functions. In any case, the Gems may be inorganic but they at the very least heavily mimic organic structure. When Peridot was being pulled in two different directions by Steven and Amethyst, a cracking sound could be heard, indicating something similiar to a bone structure. Amethyst seems to produce a mucous-like substance within her nose, and has stated that she pees in the ocean. When we see lion eating a Gem lizard, it is plainly shown with a skeleton. Gems are not biological, but their bodies function in much the same way as a biological being would, and seems to have a similiar structure.

    • @Maxolotl124
      @Maxolotl124 6 лет назад

      I mean, people have said that Steven looks identical to his father at his age. But aside from that, rose could've hypothetically used her gem to fill in the second half of Steven's genetic code, or at least shapeshifted chromosomes or something weird like that. My point is, there are numerous work arounds they could use if they really wanted to

    • @uploader109
      @uploader109 6 лет назад +1

      Pearl stated in Guide to the Crystal Gems that Rose converted her data from her gem into DNA for Steven. They weren't the same thing. Rose used her powers to change that. It's like trying to print an ebook back into a hardback book. They aren't coded in the same way.

  • @Jeannescaviar

    I have this one theory about how the Gem species came to be. While Homeworld was still forming, it possibly produced some form of bacteria into the atmosphere, and it harvested itself inside the materials used to make Gemstones. When the Gemstone began to form, the bacteria mixed in with it creating life. It needed energy to survive and grow stronger, thus it sucked out the energy from the materials around it. After a while, the Gem begins to form and it bursts out of the ground. And while adding what Amethyst said, that being "Parasites like me", it kinda adds to my theory of how the Gem species was born. As Rebeca Sugar revealed that Gems are like super computers that made things a bit more confusing. You see, Pathogenic Virus Injectors have this sort of robotic and organic look to them. Inside the Capsid (head) it contains its DNA and injects it through its end plates. It produces more of itself all with the same DNA and repeats the cycle all over again. I think that's where Gems got the idea that they're destined to repeat this cycle after they may have discovered the bacteria inside them, giving them life. And thus, Gem Injectors weer made to repeat this cycle.

      Anyway, all in all I'm just saying that homeworld either shattered cracked gems, collected all shards from the battlefield, or shattered crystal gems and homeworld gems that failed as punishment, or any combination of these things to create both the experiments and the cluster. Plus, The crystal gems are often referred to as a small group of rebels I assume 200-300 maybe more the cluster is HUGE. I just doubt it's 100% CGems.

    I think White Diamond is the mother of all gems, including Yellow and Blue Diamond. Here are the reasons I think this is the case:
    -White Diamond seems to have control of Homeworld, as evidenced by the mural on the Moon base.
    -White Diamonds, as AJ himself presented in one of his videos, seems to have a privileged status over the other diamonds, an almost deity-like prestige.
    -White Diamond is way bigger than Blue and Yellow. Why do I think this is meaningful in any way? Jungle Moon introduces the idea that Pink Diamond was smaller than Blue and Yellow and Yellow treated her like a spoiled child more than one of her peers (and Pink acted in such a way as to make it understandable), plus Pink was featured in the bottom spot of the Diamond authority symbol just like White is always on top, plus Blue’s desperation over Pink’s disappearance, when you think about it, has several parallels to a mother mourning a child. I believe Pink was a third generation Diamond, Yellow and Blue were second generation and White was the first. White is humongous, Yellow and Blue are “only” gigantic but of comparable size to each other, while Pink seemed to be more modestly sized; each generation being smaller than the previous.
    This following idea is mere speculations and I don’t believe it to be as likely to turn out true, but it might even be possible that White Diamond was the only naturally occurred gem and all of the others derived from her, one way or another.

  • @jshadowhunter
    @jshadowhunter 8 лет назад +1

    I'm pretty sure that Diamonds are the origin point of Gemkind... or atleast White Diamond is since she appears to be the 1st.
    But that brings the question WHO created her?
    The technology race being sounds good on paper, but then you have to remember that they're just gemstones, earthy minerals, with an ability to project holographic body made of solid light. They don't evolve, because they're not designed to evolve. Evolution is just a fancy word for adaptation. Since each Gem exists solely for a specific purpose, they have no reason to adapt to a new enviroment, not that they'd have to to begin with since they exhaust natural resources, reducing planets to dead heaps of rocks that they later use to live on.
    You have to look at it like this:
    Who would create a being whose main purpose in existance is the expansion of its own kind, at the cost of planets? Who would want to eradicate all life in the universe for the sake of making sentient non-organic life that is, if you look at it in a way... eternal?
    Certainly somebody or something that's lived countless millenia before Gemkind even existed and isn't organic itsel. Somebody... who is dead inside.

  • @sealpop090
    @sealpop090 8 лет назад +1

    An aspect of gem design that I am confused about, according to this theory, is why their base forms are gems at all. Gems are natural, albeit inanimate (and more specifically native to earth as far as we know. In theory elements all around the galaxy could combine in exactly the same way they do on earth to create the specific gemstones we know here on earth, but it's not incredibly likely. Especially not for the variety of gem types we see on SU). It seems to me that a humanoid race building some sort of mechanical servant-creature would create that servant to look like, well, a machine, not a natural gemstone. Let me be clear: it's not the humanoid form I am disputing. An alien race could design a machine to look humanoid. It's the gemstone base I'm talking about. It could, of course, just be a stylistic choice, either on the part of the alien race that created them, or on the part of Rebecca Sugar and the Crewniverse. Interesting nevertheless.

    I'm a little confused by what you mean when you say there are more efficient body types than Humanoid. Efficient at what? Different body types are efficient at different things. • @VespersBell
      @VespersBell 8 лет назад +3

      But what specific body plans are you saying would be better for human level intelligence? For instance, dolphins are more hydrodynamic, so they're better at swimming, but they don't have hands so their ability to put their intelligence to practical use is limited by their anatomy. I'm asking what sort of body would be better for doing normal human activities, which is what the gems tend to do.

      the gems may have resulted in their maker's extinction, but that doesn't mean they turned on them.
      Think of it like this: you're considering having children, but they come out with this new technology: androids that look and act like humans, except they are smarter, stronger, live much longer, and can be repaired.
      Would you choose to have a weak, cripple-able child who will die in 70 years, or would you buy an android child who can live just like a human being, but immune to disease and old age?
      Even if you would choose to have a human child, the longer the tech is out the more normal it is, and it could eventually result in the extinction of "biological humans"

    They must have been really sophisticated machines if someone like Rose could take Greg's DNA and produce Steven. Is that even possible? This would make Steven half-hologram?
    Also what a coincidence it is how these machines happened to form such humanoid appearances. I feel like it would be so unlikely that there's another alien race out there who would look exactly like us

  • @h.cschannel
    @h.cschannel 7 лет назад +1

    this theory is so close to mine!
    i think originally the whole gem race was created to conquer other worlds, maybe companionship and for politics by another organic life, and either that species died of or the diamonds killed them.(the diamonds[or at least a few of them] started thinking 'why am i following orders from a species that is inferior to me?' as well as 'why live in this society with on order or rules' so they had there own rebellion ) but what i really think is that our diamond sort've became the first crystal gems in the sense that they rebelled against their superior diamonds and shattered the rest of them leaving only these four left. and to make sure that the other gems didn't hate them or try to rebel against them for what they did they shattered all the gems for that time. they then decided to start gem history basically over. but even through all that there may be some artifacts left over from the original diamond court.(this would also explain why gems take on human forms can are able to eat)

    I think this makes enough sense to revise my own Gem origin theory. In fact, it streamlines it very nicely....
    My idea was originally that humanity might have "evolved" somehow into the Gems, but it's less messy to say that advanced humans sent a von Neumann probe out into space, where it encountered some sci-fi spacial anomaly which sent it back in time. This led to the alternate history of Steven Universe wherein the probe continued on with its programming, eventually multiplying and evolving on its own to create Gems as we know them, their forms, mannerisms, and language all still based on the human beings which programmed their progenitor (and possibly stuffed it full of cultural information as a possible "hand of friendship" to genuine alien races).

    I had a very similar theory, though it went a little differently. In my theory, Gems also originated from a biological species, though they weren't humanoid at the time, which I felt explained why corrupted Gems become animalistic when they corrupt: they're reverting. They lived on a planet where food was limited so they developed the ability, over time, to consume and derive nutrition from just about anything (because Amethyst at least can eat just about anything) as well as the ability to draw energy from the sun using natural armor which would become the basis of the gemstone. Eventually, a humanoid race came to the planet and settled there. They decided to make use of the indigenous life forms first as pets and working animals and then to modify them, slowly turning them into what we know today. Eventually, a war broke out between this maker race and another and the maker race was obliterated, with a few survivors escaping to Earth where they became the ancestors of the human race (explaining why humans and gems are both humanoid). The planet was desolated in the war and the enemy race moved on, leaving the hardy servant race of the Gems alone and leaderless. I theorize that, since they were designed to follow orders, the Gems sought out a master and eventually created their own in the first Diamonds. This system continued on with Gems developing over time into a more war-like conquering race and then the story starts off. What do you think? Too complicated? Too many assumptions?

  • @TheFanguy123

    To be honest, what I thought about their origins was that they're gods and created the universe and have their own god society but the universe itself adapted on its own like the solar system, and other systems across galaxies and gem colony decided to gain more control over the universe, since they're losing it to adaptation, they found the earth already on its evolutionary state where humans were starting to first take over, the gems decided to plant themselves everywhere in the universe to regain power and earth was one of the many places they'd seek to reproduce themselves on. This theory is way more interesting than mine though, although we can't really know for sure, since it's just a show. But kudos to this theory.

    I've always considered the thought that gems weren't a created race but rather one that came into being as sporadically as any other species just with a different base makeup, it would still make sense then that they'd slowly better themselves over generations as stated in the video. It would also explain, to me at least, why they reproduce how they do since they'd have to have realized how they came to be and then just copied the conditions.

    Remember when on the moon base where our Dorito explained why they adapted to the gravity of the celestial object they were on? I believe this supports your idea. A good probe shouldn't lose efficiency. Efficiency... This also supports your idea. The gems seem to be a very efficiency-based culture. Yellow Diamond said it herself when she said she didn't care about 'potential resources'

    I have a theory:
    Due to long time it took for the gems to incubate, their creator race gradually became more advanced, to the point where they mastered conscious transfer, at some point the race began to die out due to all their output on gems and four high ranking elites decided to create for gems, White, Blue, Yellow and Pink, they then transferred their conscious into those gems and became more powerful than they were before, as immortals they established the Diamond Authority while the creator race became extinct.

    (Unrelated Theory) I feel like the Crystal Gems have symbolized diamonds from the very beginning.
    Amethyst: Yellow Diamond, they get angry easily, rush to conclusions, chest gem.)
    Garnet: Blue Diamond, They're both relaxed and don't take action unless they need to. (Maybe BD is a fusion? A stretch, but I've heard that before...)
    Pearl: White Diamond, We haven't seen much of WD yet, but they both have head gems. (Pearl is WD's Pearl. not confirmed, but almost true at this point. That's why.)
    Rose: Pink Diamond, Both don't exist anymore, the rest of this comparison is a can of worms I don't want to open. (I'm assuming PD is dead.)

  • @bettythesouloffear9509

    This is my theory:
    The gems bodies are mostly made of light, but since gem shards stay when they are shattered, I'm guessing their made like normal gems except more evolved and able to create their own form and what they look like on homeworld, but not on other planets. My evidence? Well most gems are made in the ground, and some of the gems are made in kindergartens, or in the rocks or geodes. And I'm guessing most of the pearls are made in blue diamonds court, since lapis lazuli can use water and she's blue and pearls are made in oysters, which form in the water. Their rooms also show what habitat they were made in like amethysts form in geodes, garnets form in hot places, and pearls form in oysters underwater.

    I guess the Von Neumann machine theory is similar to that, but I feel that those two properties were specifically what inspired the gem backstory (if I'm correct, anyway.)

    I like to think that "homeworld" is a planet that once upon a time had really good recourses but the diamonds that were growing finally finished and started incubating other gems. • @GuiSmith
    @GuiSmith 8 лет назад

    I think that the Gems were made sentient, in order to be able to think and feel like their creators. I personally like the idea that the Gems are a sort of super-enhanced organic species that pretty much become purely living, thinking machine. It explains where the original species went, too: the creators likely didn't have the ability to survive, and that's why they needed the Gems to go and collect resources from space. They could also have had a start from being a sort of re-designed brain scan of the creator species, a sort of recreated and then randomised being that is given individual persona traits that best suit their type, which is possibly something like the creators had, what with how we humans already group like-minded people together, but the Gems are given some random traits that make them unique and individual. If the creators were at an extreme resource shortage, or possibly in likelihood of dying due to an event that could kill organic beings, but not artificial ones like the Gems, then it's also possible that the Gems were made to preserve the essence of those people in a sense, spreading in a way they never could. The built-in extreme survival and powerful abilities are something that I doubt the Gems made themselves, probably just as the creators didn't want them to face death and doom like they did.

    I have a theory: I believe the Gems were the original speakers of English, and when they came to Earth the Humans learned English from the early Crystal Gems or other Gems. That could've been one of the reasons for the Temples, because we have seen no Gem worship a Diamond, but just see them as leaders. The ancient humans worshiped Gems and learned English from them, created temples with the Gem's help/technology.

    While I like the idea that they are machines built for a precursor civilization, I can't help but feel it is a cop-out. Saying that they work the way they do to fit in with the precursor civilization conflicts with the idea that they are machines built to explore space. I think they are actually a post-singularity society. That they evolved as silicone based life and developed technology to create the far superior holographic bodies.
    We know that they have a distinct culture, as seen by the aristocratic upper class, so it would would not be reaching to suggest that the form they take on is similar to their physical, biological bodies, of which would of had cultural significance. This also explains their obsession with the preservation of "Homeworld" which, like our planet, has great significance to our evolution and development.
    Aspects such as emotions, communication and even love seem useless to an exploration machine, but make sense for an previously biological being, one that has the distinctive flaws of evolution.
    Sure, you could explain all this as a product of them developing their own society, or copying the precursor species, but why would they develop copy the flaws that they clearly have, such as a sense of individualism and the ability to rebel. Such aspects clearly do nothing but hurt the civilization as a whole when these flaws occour in the lower classes. So why would they have these flaws?
    And it doesn't help that there is zero evidence for a precursor civilization.

    • @theslavegamer
      @theslavegamer 8 лет назад +2

      That's true, but Yellow Diamond refers to humans as "organic life" in a condescending tone. This indicates that they separate themselves from carbon lifeforms. It would make sense that they are silicon, since they are essentially an AI operated on a silicon computer (the gem). Also remember that they're not actually the same as the gems we know, they are clearly different from mundane stones.

    this may sound a bit farfetched, but a long time ago, I had a thought that what if the corrupted gems were actually gems in a primordial form?
    Millions of years ago on a Crystal planet, an electro magnet storm covers the sky. suddenly, lightning strikes hit the gem clusters on the Crystal planet's surface and they react. the gem clusters then start to take form into animal like creatures. These gem creatures begin to evolve, changing form as millions of years pass becoming more humanoid to the point in which we recognize the homeworld gems as of now.
    just a thought...
