Rebecca has confirmed that Fusion is a metaphor for love, not necessarily romantic but it *can* be romantic, as shown with Garnet, or it can be familial, as shown with Steven fusing with his dad and the other gems, the other gems also being family and even maternal figures in his life. She felt it was important though for Peridot to be uncomfortable with fusion to represent the Ace/Aro community, and at the opposite end of the spectrum is Fluorite, who is a fusion of six gems to represent the polyromantic community.

Steven Universe wasn't like most 2010's cartoons. It had more depth to the story plot and characters, along with strong messages. That show was awesome

And that is it's biggest issue. It had issues with the story and plot itself. Filler is such a huge issue in this series because it cuts the amount of plot heavy episodes . It's also the reason for the show's rushed ending

The reason that I think that Greg and Amethyst had at least a short relationship before is that when she turned into Rose Greg was completely freaking out, "I can't let you do this to me again." I think that sometime after Rose died and while everyone was still having a very hard time about it Amethyst used her shapeshifting powers to basically seduce Greg, both of them looking for comfort and solace. It was a mistake that they both regretted and probably only happened once or twice before they realized what they were doing.

I think there's one small change. Amethyst relied on the physical relationship to feel wanted and validated, but Greg felt guilty and wanted to end that aspect. Desperate, Amethyst tried to become what she thought Greg wanted, turning into Rose. That broke Greg's emotional state wide open and they barely spoke since.
Steven Universe is definitely one cartoon I’ll always miss.

Honestly surprised that there wasn't a mention of when roses room recreated the entire town and how the pink whale was possibly the remaining aspect of Rose that helped Steven get out when the town "fell apart". That whole episode felt like something out of Silent Hill
i didnt get to watch steven universe as a kid because it was banned where i lived (turkey). no one knows why it was banned but many speculate it was because of the lgbt stuff (turkey is a not-so-lgbt-friendly country) but i got to watch all the episodes in around the end of 2019 thanks to a friend of my mother who let me use a VPN.

While it's true that SU was animated by 2 different animation studios, I'm pretty sure the reason for the inconsistency in animation was actually due to the storyboard artists having different, inconsistent styles of drawing. If you look at the picture at 7:15 it showcases the different styles of every artist/team of artists.
This is why in one episode Steven and Connie were drawn one way, and then in another episode they were drawn in sort of a chibi style. Or why Peridot has progressively shrunk as the show went on.
So no quality control

honestly this show amazes me, so much time passed since the show ended and during that time i grew a lot as a person, my interests changed, i made new friends and gained confidence, but still i caught myself smiling at the screen remembering how much i loved steven universe and how much it meant to me

Another fandom related incident was when an artist drew Rose and other characters with significantly altered features and was harassed over it. Not sure what happened to her since I've heard varying information about it over the years, but it was a pretty big deal and I'm surprised it wasn't here.

someone's probably said it already but the size inaccuracies has nothing to do with the difference in production studios, but instead because the storyboard artists had different nuances in style that caused the characters to look different depending on who boarded the episode. model sheets were also disregarded a lot which led to... that. it seems that sunmin did do a better job of correcting for this, however rough draft has made high-quality animation before so they shouldn't be discredited entirely.

I used to watch steven universe back in 2014 but i only watched a couple episodes since we had cable tv for a bit and after it was gone i couldn't really watch it but i been watching it on a site recently, tbh it's a really amazing show the artstyle, the aesthetic scenes and music really fit into the show but what i really like about steven universe is that the episodes are 10 minites long (excluding the intro and ending credits) so you can basically finish a season in a day if you binge watched it also even though it is 10 minites long instead of the usual 22 minutes of any cartoon it manages to make the episode worth watching instead of rushing it, this is why steven universe along with regular show and adventure time are my favorite cartoon network shows (i'm on episode 41)

The amethyst stuff is clear - her and gregg got close after rose poofed, which is probs why amesthys got taller and longer hair and fooled around - one day he asked her to be Rose cus he missed her and it ruined their friendship
I think the opposite, Greg tried to back away from their relationship and Amethyst, desperate to feel wanted and valid, took Rose's form. Greg snapped at her and they rarely spoke willingly after that.

Not necessarily. I think it was one of the episodes that foreshadowed Rose being Pink Diamond. Showing the giant gem ship which turned out to be a diamond ship, pink diamond's. I could be wrong but im pretty sure its the first time we see the legship.. which comes up later in legs from here to homeworld so i don't see it much as filler.

You know what i think Steven Universe took so long to reveal the Rose Quartz twist? Cuz the fans predicted it in season 1, so Rebecca Sugar wrote a lot of filler in-between so the fans would actually be shocked from the reveal! If the theories and rumours didn occur, maybe we would have gotten a much speedier show with the lore. Maybe Bismuth could have stayed unbubbled? Who knows what else could have changed?

I'm inclined to believe, in regard to the first injector theory, was that the gem people were at one point more like conventional humanoid aliens, organic and could probably reproduce naturally. Eventually their civilization learned how to break the laws of physics and eventually evolved up the kardashev scale into a type 2 to a type 3 civilization, eventually shedding the more organic components of their body and concentrating it into one of these near magical sentient gemstones, building injectors and and their intergalactic empire across the known universe. Somehow they also had the central diamond authority come to power? I think it was possibly the last biological family in all the gem race, which would possibly explain why they were all so close, and so devastated by the loss of pink diamond.
omg the size inconsistency has bothered me throughout watching the whole show, it always confuses me. sometimes certain characters look HUGEEEE like the diamonds for example but in other scenes they’re seem much smaller

This is definitely not canon but I believe white Diamond was created naturally somewhere in space, she was most likely self-obsessed or lonely and force created the 3 other diamonds in natural methods with lots of heat and pressure and time (which is why pink diamond is the “youngest”) and they then began forming lesser worth gems and expedited the process by inventing the injectors and later the kindergartens

When it comes to SU's animation, I highly doubt it's the fault of the animation studios. It more comes down towards the storyboards. If anyone's seen the storyboards for the episodes, it's clear those have sizes and proportions shifting really badly. The thing is, the animators in the animation studio won't fix up your work. They'll work with exactly what you give them. That's also why Mindful Education, which had a guest storyboard artist, looked much better in terms of animation.
If there's need for proof, Sunmin's body of work includes shows like Ben 10, 101 Dalmations the series, American dragon Jake Long and Owl House. And for Rough Draft? This studio's body of work includes: Pinky and the Brain, The Simpsons, Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, CatDog, The Powerpuff Girls, Spongebob Squarepants, Family Guy, KND and so many more shows.
If these studios produce so many well animated shows which don't have these issues the way SU has, I have no reason to believe it's their fault.
All though it fell off towards the end, it was one of my favorite shows and I watched it alot. So thanks for covering.

Seeing how garnet is like a mother to Steven, amethyst being like the weird aunt or maybe a cousin, and pearl being well pearl, I don’t think the storyboard people would have Steven having “intercourse” with a “motherish figure” through fusion but I see how people see it that way

I think having the first complete Fusion Dance scene as Garnet and Amethyst with Pearl acting like a pearl-clutching mother (no pun intended) and trying to cover Steven's eyes was a mistake. Show us Amethyst and Pearl creating Opal first, so we can get a good baseline.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the naked bismuth refers to the coloring error when her and pearl were fighting, you can see that the animators either forgot to color bismuth's pants or accidentally colored them with her skin color

It wasn’t because of the animation studios since from their other works (even one working on a movie) having a lot of experiences throughout the days. It was later found out that it was the storyboarding and the lack of professionalism within the drafts.
It's crazy to think some countries ban a show for SUPPORTING love and basic human rights, but those same countries are fine with promoting war, and sexism.

TBH I get it, but that dance should have been the second we saw, not the first. Letting us see Opal be formed would have been a much better baseline for fusion. We eventually see it for what it is, but that first time? I get why people freaked out.
