    Yes, I agree about using dishwashing liquid and water to deep clean the litter box. No need for toxic bleach! And please people, only use unscented cat litter for the health of your cat and yourself.

      And no need to use Febreeze in or on the litter daily either. A lot of people in my building will spray their litter boxes with that stuff before company comes over, and I'm allergic to it, plus they complain that their cats don't use the litter box after company leaves, they go in inappropriate places. I try to tell them their cats hate the smell "But it's deodorizing!" they say. UGH. I feel bad for their cats.

    Before I had to put my one cat down, he was 16 yrs old and had diabetes. As such I had to use the pretty litter with a low litter box and bed pads to monitor his health. It really help me to deter his health and when that time came, I had to do the thing. I miss him still.

    Please everyone...pay close attention to this video!!! My 1st cat baby started having a difference in the amount of water she was drinking, to the amount she was putting out. I took her to the vet and found out she had kidney disease. I did everything the vet said to do. Sadly, my baby passed anyway. If i had not been attentive to this, she would have lived a shorter more painful life.

      So very sorry that you lost your baby! Hopefully you will find it in your heart to care for another someday.... the inevitable heartbreak if totally worth the joy and beauty they bring into our lives!

      This is super important - Especially as a cat gets older. I lost my wonderful elder cat earlier this year to kidney disease. They are so good at hiding they are sick. Once kidney disease kicks in, it's very difficult to treat.

    Does anyone else think replacing the litterbox every year is wasteful? Scoop them every day and deep clean them regularly, but I have kept using several for more than a decade without any problems.

      I live in an apartment and am afraid of clogging my drains.
      I will wipe down the litter box when changing the litter and put a small amount of water with dish soap to clean the box. I sop up the water with paper towels . Rinse and dry, then refill. Paper towels are degradable, and I use the cheap ones.

      I kept my plastic litterbox for 20 years. Every time I washed it (with natural dishwashing liquid) I sterilized it in the sun. The sun killed germs and kept it from smelling. I could put my nose very close and smell nothing. I put it in the sun for 15 minutes on each side.

      I highly recommend looking into strictly wet or raw food diets. Unfortunately dry food is not appropriate for any cat. Mostly because it lacks water. Cats are supposed get hydrated from their food!

    I used to have 2 cats now we only have the one and she is a short hair cat and she loves her hooded litter box, when we had her and the other cat the other cat actually came to us having litter issues as he had completely rejected using a litter box and nothing we did could make him learn how to use one, he was also a very floofy cat and my sister also had a floofy cat and he cat also had rejection of any litter boxes/trays, so I have found the cats that reject litter boxes more are the fluffy cats.
    I've never had an issue with my short hair cats 🤷‍♀️

  • @FloozieOne
    @FloozieOne Год назад +1

    You forgot to add scented litter. In general cats really hate it. While it may smell good to you and keep down odors, cats amazing sense of smell makes it overwhelming to them. So just plain litter whatever type your cat(s) prefer. Clumping litter is best since you take less out while cleaning the box which is more effective not to mention less expensive.

  • @loretta_3843
    @loretta_3843 Год назад

    I've never had more than one cat inside, so I don't have any personal experience of having multiple cats and litter boxes.
    However, I noticed that it was said that people said you can have more than one cat using one litter box if you're good about keeping it clean. I can't help thinking this is similar to the litter robot you mentioned. If that can service multiple cats because it cleans after use regularly. It's pretty much the same thing, only one is mechanical and the other is maintained by hand.
    Sorry for my long winded comment - I can never seem to be more succinct!😄 I hope it made sense though!

    Whenever I clean the litter boxes I always put a layer of litter box approved deodorizing powder on the bottom before I pour new litter in. I also use litter mats that have a catch pocket. Makes it easy to pour it back into the litter boxes. Waste not want not! 😹
