  • A really cool and easy DIY welding project for making a portable camping/glamping/survival rocket type stove using an old gas bottle and some offcuts of round pipe. The pipes are from a refurbishment and the bottle was pulled from a hedghrow, 3 bolts from the bolts tray make up a tripod base thats pretty sturdy. Total cost is less than £5 worth of rods, grinding discs, biggest cost as usual is time, the more tools youve got the quicker youll make one.
    Unsure if Ive made the heat riser too long, im sure theres some calculations but i just made it to suit the height of the bottle.
    Ive started to use the 3.2mm welding rods which make for a much better and deep penetrating weld but does mean the welder turns itself off every now and then as it overheats, something its never done on 2.5mm rods.
    Just a quick light on this one, very windy, hopefully get some bacon on later for tea with the cats.

      Great project for me to try. I've got a powerplasma cutter so that should definitely help with some of the cuts.

      i paid £40 for it as part of a garage clearance when i bought the bench drills, its good for angled cuts and accuracy but youre quicker with a 9inch grinder doing straight cuts

    How hot can it get? I think I've got all of the materials I need to weld one of these with my powerarc welder now.

    That is a very interesting design. I might make one myself with my everlast equipment and an old cylinder.

    hello, couldn't you just make a small hole beneath the big feed pipe, instead of running a small pipe like you did??

    • @dorianbelen
      @dorianbelen 7 лет назад

      I will do the hole and welding the pipe but offset 2 inches in the same pipe with the wood. to have air flow in the combustion area

      yes, for cutting out quickly things like small 3 inch and 4inch holes which would be hard with a grinder it is a good tool, i am using it quite often now

      i did :( grinding looks good on camera but the metal bits stick to the lens and burn their way on, cant get replacement lenses, well you can but its more than the cameras are worth
