hope you enjoyed this little tweak I've wanted to make for a long time! and before anyone asks, it's just going to be a separate mod people could download if they want. It's not part of any of my other Bloodborne mods. plus this video should show how easy souls modding can be, depending on what you want to do!
Will you make some AnimStudio fixes as well or just param changes? Some of her fire hitboxes come out before she actually swings, and it leads to getting hit by nothing in Phase 3.
I don't really like increasing poise on a boss like this, I feel it breaks the flow of the fight and kinda turns it into a thumb war of "will she stagger or not", especially with lighter weapons.
see, I feel the opposite where her low poise is what broke up the fight and allowed you to bully the shit out of her. which I get that Fromsoft did this with Malenia as well to balance her damage output, but with Maria I feel her low relative HP undercut this low poise
I feel the same with Maria, however I'll take the increase HP and keep the poise as it is. In the clip you had max (?) stamina if you try this fight with 10-15 END you can't spam 7 consecutive attacks :)
I always remembered the low poise really made the fight more fun, but wow I don't remember her melting that quickly 😅 It'd be great to see the fight be a back and forth. The end result here looks great, though I'm curious how that looks on an average character at that point in the game
yeah like in theory I like the idea of low poise to balance a hard boss (a la Malenia), but man, with Maria, you really can just wreck her ass so fast if you bully her lol
I would love to see her being invulnerable to damage during her phase transitions, and the blood and fire doing more damage in her later phases, rather than simply more damage in general. Love your videos!
This is great, mate! Either doubling the health or having the last phase be its own health bar would be fine with me. Poise is a non-issue imo. Don't get me wrong, this is a great fight, but she's too easy to counter and/or bully, so just having to survive for longer against her is all that's needed. Keep it up!!
She's a glass cannon, especially on phase 3. She dies and gets staggered easily, but phase 3 can oblitirate a well leveled character in 2-3 hits, which she can easily chain into each-other, with lingering hitboxes to boot. I think From lowkey figured it with Friede, she dashes out of stunlocks to not go down too quicklly. Also Ludwig's Holy Blade is notoriously busted everything gets murked by it haha!
You really shouldnt be doing anywhere near that much damage unless u have high level bloodgems or over lvl 120 on a normal playthrough. She has 14K hp, and orphan has only 19k. Not that much of a difference. So ur issue is either she has too little health OR too little poise, you cant buff both cause then its just unbalanced at all. Maybe a slight buff to both might be better
I feel that what he did feels pretty alright in the footage, but he was indeed extremely cracked. Maybe just 40 superarmor with the 2x health would be a good middle-point. I feel the health pool is a bigger problem, and it also makes viscerals make 2x less damage, in a sense.
definitely a good mod it's crazy i always thought the same that she had such a small health bar ever since i first fought her and she's weak due to that cause you could literally kill her during phase transition
Lady Maria kicked my ass the first couple of times, but after I got the first win she became a joke. Would definitely like to try out this buffed version to spice up my favorite boss fight.
I'm finishing my first DLC bloodborne run. I have a friend that's always complained about this fight being disappointing, but I've also seen people say she's still one of the best bosses in the game... And then I saw your thumbnail and I thought "Oh, ok, this seems like an easy fix". So I made sure not to level past 65 , and faced her with a +8 weapon I took all the gems out of, which almost halves my dps (The gems thing I'm only doing for this fight. Even without that Ludwig absolutely caved my face in, and I gave Laurence a try and HO-LY-FFF). You could also take out your Caryll runes, though I feel those make much less of a difference. I've been at her for like an hour and a half, and she's being super fun! I can stunlock her and land like 6 straight hits sometimes, but it barely takes out a 10th of her HP anyway. I do think that you might have overtuned her, since your character is so cracked. I'd raise the superarmor to about 30 or 40 and keep the 2x health, since that also takes care of Viscerals doing too much damage. Also check with a normal level character, lol. You could maybe try to make her take less damage from viscerals, or have a shorter window to actually land a visceral after a parry, or a shorter recovery time afterwards to handle the parrying vulnerability... Or just see if you can tighten her parry windows. (I know jack-shit about modding, I'm just throwing ideas here, maybe this is impossible or not worth the time, lol) Thing is, the first time I fought Friede I was pretty overleveled, so I beat her way faster than most people, but on my second run with a way more appropriate level I got properly whooped and had to learn her moves way, way better... Which was so much more enjoyable too. So deciding to keep my level low for Maria was a no-brainer. I get that we shouldn't have to balance the game, much less a single boss for Fromsoft, and it certainly doesn't work for a first-time blind playthrough... But the option is there, and it's way more fun.
The special thing about this boss is that it is difficult if you go through it low level. I don't think that such changes will make Maria better. Much better to fix the bug where the music doesn't change when going from stage 1 to stage 2, and from stage 2 to stage 3.
Yeah, what I have found is that their leveling system is pretty flawed. These games are, for some reason, designed for the bare minimum of leveling to occur, if you level too high (and its easy to do so) you basically imbalance the game from how it was designed. Its to the point where Demon's Souls literally only feels balanced when you are at base SL for your class. They may have learned from DeS but that is the biggest example: leveling is almost useless, gear level and upgrades are the thing that makes you win the game, not having slightly more health. I wonder if Fromsoft uses flat levels for testing, maybe that's why? They might test it by every 10 levels to see how "strong" their boss is relative to the rest of the game, but maybe they are forgetting about the damage boost from gear leveling. I don't think the enemies should boost in health/dmg as you level but maybe something like a damage cap for certain bosses, where they will react differently if you are overpowered and can beat them in a few hits, give them more evasion etc. to compensate
I always thought that this boss was overrated because I legit destroyed her in 5 minutes in 2019, I never even heard her song full way through. I saw someone say that lady Maria was harder then a lot of bosses in elden ring and all I can think is they haven’t played it in so long and bloodbourne was their first souls game
I also found Lady Maria easy as hell, now I'm wondering if it was because I used a heavy weapon. Felt a little disappointed because I'd heard a lot about her, these changes would help a lot. I'm on the fence if the poise increase would make it less fair for players with light weapons though
Light weapons staggering less is the point, so I dont' think it's too bad. 75 superarmor does seem like too much, but even with light weapons you can stunlock her into oblivion right now. If you don't want to wait for mods, I suggest you try facing her with a weaker character in general. I am lvl 65 and took the gems out of a +8 weapon, and I'm having quite a bit of fun with her. Her moveset is really nice to fight against, and even when I stunlock her it doesn't just melt half her health off.
@@SupremeDP I wonder if it is just me but i can pretty comfortably beat Maria and Ludwig in BL35 but i struggle so hard vs Living failures whenever i'm underleveled.
My Man you can't say she's too "easy" and needs that mod when you're hitting her with mega buffed damage and invincibility active I don't get why people think its bad to have some low poise bosses that get "punished" for not backing away and just spamming at the player when they're perfectly ok with the player being punished for trying the same thing😅😅😅😅 are y'all trying to root for an ai
My fav character in bloodborne and most likely all fromsoft games (put an * on that since I might have to recheck and rethink but as of writing this, she is and always has been) and yeah, I always thought her being too suceptible to parries was lame, need more overpowered Chady Maria
I’m not 100% that this is how I would change Maria, but I do agree that her fight is too short. She’s got a lot of really cool stuff going on and a competent player can finish her off before she gets to do most of it. Obviously this is only a quick edit for testing, but I think you could really improve this fight without altering the original intention too much with some careful thought and testing.
I do agree that she's too easy, but honestly giving a boss who already has hyper-armor during a bunch of attacks actual poise health changes the nature of the fight a LOT. The nice thing about 0 poise is that it rewards you for punishing quickly by giving you a second hit before she can do anything. Of course, if you can tank her, you can just R1 spam and win, so increasing her HP or damage is a nice cheap fix to that.
Thanks for these videos! I have a question: I loved the chalice dungeons in BB and was wondering how the emulation progress is on them? Are they playable yet, and if so do the glyphs from ps4 work or is online play not possible?
I think 2.5x base HP would be best. I play Elden Ring with a mod that increases the HP of all bosses by that much, and another one that slightly reduces the damage modifiers for areas past the halfway point of the game, and it makes boss fights feel a lot more dynamic and lets you do more complex stuff when you['re fighting bosses rather than just nuking every boss as fast as possible or getting nuked yourself.
she was always a massive pushover imo. the tipping point of bb's boss and design philosophy where the emphasis on aggression devolves into belligerent mashing and forcing trades. it's interesting to see how much more intelligent each interaction is with just a few simple changes, would love to see how you implement this going forward
Has max hp and stamina bar + hp can't go down and still gets hit a bit: Maria is easy. I would like to see you beat her normally without getting hit a single or two and I will maybe consider she is easy.
Hey is there a possibility to do a tutorial on how to modify enemies? Ive been wanting to mod dark souls games for ages but i can figure out how to modify enemies and the damage of your weapons.
Martyr Logarius has a bit of the same for me, not the poise mind you, but the HP. I obliterated him first try, was panicking as with most BB bosses but I could do it. I feel like in Elden Ring Maliketh, Godfrey, and Midra have this exact same issue. They're some of the best bosses and are over too son because of low health before you actually have to learn some of their trickiest moves. I'm sure there's more examples of this ocurring in other FS games. There are others like Artorias, Dragonslayer Armour, Gael, Ludwig, that feel like they have the perfect amount of health for the thing they're going for. I think the sweetspot for Maria would be ~2.3x HP and 40 poise. I still think 3-4 shotting her into a stagger animation with most weapons is OK.
You csn control her health with weapon level and bloodgem usage, and like all other hunters theres a reason she doesnt have poise unless its on certain attacks. Its like giving friede poise for some reason. Though I guess its cool for people who enjoy that, even though fromsoft catered to you in Elden Ring.
I appreciate the HP increase for a longer fight, and I like the idea of not being able to just beat her out of combos. But I'm not sure I totally agree on the poise, can you adjust it by phase, perhaps? First time I fought her I was on NG+ and had a glass cannon-ish skill build so I was dancing around looking for visceral windows.
