      @Barron Von Schneider nope , they where alerted they did this 10 days prior to it being released in the court. They had 10 days to contest it. Now if it was brought up in that 10 day period , then he might have been able to get one.... There will be no mistrial since they gave them time to act.

      Whether you like jones or not, this is not defamation and will likely win if the case is appealed. Reason being is that there is no evidence that Jones defamed any parent of sandy good victims. Defamation has to have intent and it has to cause substantial injury. The problem is that espousing a theory, as nutty as it may seem, is not by legal definition, defamation. Even if Jones theory is wrong, that means he is misinformed and misguided, but does not mean he has lied, nor does it mean he has defamed someone. Defaming someone has malicious intent. This sets a very dangerous legal precedent for all media. You can't get millions of dollars out of someone simply because your feelings are hurt. The first amendment guarantees the right of free speech, and while defamation is a crime, it has not been proven here.

If you shoot off lies and damage someone's reputation, especially on a show where you're making a ton of money by lying, you can be sued for a lot. Not to mention all the harassment and harm to their quality of life caused by Jones. That guy should have been hit much harder.

    • @FurnaxIkki
      @FurnaxIkki Год назад

      I would say that the harassment that ensued by Jones's supporters could constitute substantial injury, pain, and suffering being inflicted on families already going through the hardship of having lost their children.
      Texas law also has a lower standard for defamation, in that it only requires *negligence* rather than proving intent. Jones's insistence on crisis actors and that the parents are just brainwashed for so long would make it pretty easy to make a case for willful negligence of reality, if not gross negligence considering the extreme claims he made.

Also, those opposing his viewpoint should know that no one is entitled not to have their feelings hurt either. It's not something in law.
    I understand this trial was about defamation, not hurt feelings. Having watched this trial, I don't think as a juror I would have found him as responsible as the final judgement makes it seem. I don't think 90 minutes over 7 years could have afflicted enough reputation damage to the parents, to make this money judgement reasonable. Alex Jones did not harass or spend nearly as much time focusing on this subject as the media would have you believe. If anyone actually did research in this world, they'd know that. I would have personally supported a judgement of 500,000 dollars and no more had I been a juror.

      @@vmurvmur4937 you missed my point though. The prosecutor has to prove what he said damages the reputation of the person/s he said it against. All the prosecution proved is their feelings were hurt. Also how responsible is AJ for that when his coverage was so, so small on the subject? Plus at the time he did not know the event was real. This is common sense. We are moving dangerously toward an Orwellian society.
