Freedom of speech has limitations on it. It doesn't mean that you're allowed to say absolutely anything without consequences. There is a point where even words can become crimes (blackmail, defamation, threats). It's been proven that the conspiracy theories Alex Jones was spreading were untrue, yet he still continued to do it and it caused lots of trouble for the families of the Sandy Hook victims. They were constantly harassed, threatened, and their reputation suffered. That's defamation and it is a crime. So no, this isn't an attack on freedom of speech. If Alex Jones had discussed his theories between friends and family, that would've been different. But because he wanted to go public with it and caused a lot of damage doing so, he has to deal with the consequences.

1. This is a trial for damages. He was not "automatically found guilty." This is the second of two civil trials for Jones. Because they are not criminal trials, neither even had "guilty" as an option. In the first trial, Jones was found liable for defamation. The verdict was basically the jury answering "Yes" to the question "Did Jones commit defamation?" It was not a "guilty verdict" because, again, these are *civil trials*... in other words, he was sued. That is what a civil trial is.
This trial is a second, separate trial. It's not a trial to determine whether or not Jones is liable for defamation. That was already determined, in the first trial. Instead, this was a trial to determine how much, if anything, he should pay to the victims of his defamation.
Again, neither trial was criminal, so neither trial even dealt with concepts like guilt or innocence. In the simplest terms:
Trial 1= Did Jones commit defamation? Verdict: Yes.
Trial 2 = How much should Jones pay because of his defamation? Verdict: $45+ million
2. The witnesses were cross-examined. No, they were not allowed to ask conspiratorial questions like "Why was a go fund me page set up days before (if indeed that did happen)" So you are correct about that. But to understand why, you should understand some basic principles of evidence.
In court, there are two types of evidence: Exhibits (things like maps, cell phone records, documents-actual tangible things) and Testimony (what witnesses say on "the stand").
There are rules defining what evidence is allowed to come into a trial. Every jurisdiction, like Texas, has its own evidentiary rules, but the two basic rules found everywhere in the US are: 1) Evidence must be *relevant,* and 2) Evidence must be *reliable.* That goes for both types of evidence-again, exhibits and testimony.
So, when a lawyer is asking a witness on the stand questions, they are actually introducing evidence into the court. That evidence, like all evidence, must be *relevant* and *reliable.* Even though it is testimony, it is evidence.
So to your point that they were not allowed to ask a witness "Why a go fund me was set up", the answer is that the testimony answering that question *would not be relevant*
Jones' trial (this one, his second) like I explained above, was to determine "How much, if anything, should Jones pay because of his defamation?" Any testimony-and therefore evidence-about conspiracies related to Sandy Hook would be irrelevant and, thus, barred from entering court under the rules of evidence.
Almost as if a man who truly had integrity in his words would have showed up and tried to prove they're right in court, given the chance, rather than hiding like a coward...

So hear me out. I don’t think she’s an actor but simply been through some shit. This isn’t about me however, when I was a child I had leukemia. My best friends name was Jontae Willams. He passed away in front of me, as a kid that really changes the way you see the world.
But his parents didn’t scream, or wail, or cry, or flip out. They sat down, touched his face and shed a few tears and didn’t break down until after the funeral. You don’t know how somebody else grieves and you can’t say they don’t care because you aren’t them. As much as I miss my best friend every single day… I know that they do more and I have no right to tell them how to feel about it. They don’t expect anything from anyone, they don’t have a bunch of pictures up of him, don’t make him every conversation or cry at the sound of his name. But they keep his memories alive and do the best they can. I know it seems odd to some and that’s okay, but it’s been 10 years now… Some of you don’t seem to understand how brave it is to come to a trail like this where the focus is misinformation about your dead child. Honestly I agree with some things Alex Jones says every now and then, but he also has a big imagination and when you have such a political fan base you gotta be careful with what your putting out there.
Please just be respectful because just think how you would feel if your kid died horrifically and a bunch of strangers online keep calling you “fake”.

Grief isn’t constant. It comes in waves. You’re not crying constantly over a loved one’s death. If that were true then NO ONE would laugh or smile. You might cry continuously for 20 minutes and the laugh about something you remembered about them right the next minute. I lost my cousin in a house fire last year. It was horrific. I still cry about him, but it’s less than when it first happened. And I can talk about him without crying. Sometimes I laugh when I think of something funny he did. Life goes on it has to. And no one seems to get this concept who posted on this video. Sorry don’t mean to single you out, cuz a lot of people who commented on this video think the same as you.

The mothers right to say that, what Alex Jones had to say about her dead son on live television, hurt her feelings, is the very definition of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech includes verbal backlash you get for saying things that are controversial to millions upon billions of viewers worldwide.
Yes, protect freedom of speech. Good thing that freedom of speech doesn't cover crimes, because it would be an awful world if people would be allowed to say absolutely anything without consequences. People would be allowed to threaten others as they pleased, they would be allowed to commit perjury, they would be allowed to ruin other's lives by making up lies about them and sending armies of loonies to make their lives hell.
Even blackmail would be permitted, because you could always argue that, "well, yeah I did tell them that I would beat them up if they didn't give me their paycheck, but because of freedom of speech, I'm allowed to say absolutely anything without fear of prosecution. It was their own choice to give me their money, they could have chosen not to. I would have only commited a crime if I had actually beaten them up. But since the only thing that happened was me saying stuff, which muh freedum of speech protects, I didn't commit a crime!"
It sounds insane, because it is insane. Words can be crimes. Defamation is a crime. You can't just publically spread around false information about a person that ruins their reputation and causes them a lot of harm in their life.
I 100% support freedom of speech, actual freedom of speech. No one should be censored or prosecuted for saying things, as long as they're not committing a crime.
