It isn't all done. Still have a couple of buckets to go through and still wNy to work in my cubbies but it is pretty and it is my happy place. I also use it as my office since I gave been working from home for a year. The last day we were in the office was one year today today.

@@marnieandrews5459 I love my space too!! I do hope things settle out for you. It's nice to work from home but It's also nice to see people a couple of days a week. I've been home working for years so I'm used to it, but I often think I would love to use a co working space a couple of time a month to get out and see people. I miss seeing people.

My space is very, very small but I'm moving in April and will have much more space...not a dedicated room, but definitely room for the Ikea Tornviken and Kallax... maybe even a larger Linnmon/Alex when back in stock. Thanks for your cute and genuine videos.

My sewing room is also my dining room. The table doubles up to measure and cut the fabric, and the sewing table is a folding table from Sauder that conceals the sewing machine when not in use. Sewing also brought an interesting bit of decor to the room. How many dining rooms can one think of where mannequins and bust forms are part of the aesthetic?

    • @Carolmaizy

My sewing room is a work in progress. Ive driven 35 miles to IKEA twice looking for the deeper (Fluggis?) white lidded bins for fabric storage, but they're still out of stock, 2 months later. I have overflowing baskets everywhere. My smallish room doubles as a home office area, so I definitely need to rearrange the furniture too. I'll get it done eventually.
I use an IKEA Linmon table for cutting fabric, a corkboard for hanging tools, and a tv tray and wool mat for an ironing board. Office supplies and fabric are in different styles of fabric and plastic bins in cube organizers. Eventually I'll have a more cohesive look, but grateful to have a space of my own. I agree with you- my space is fine for now, too. Im lucky to have it!

You are exactly right about waiting to use your space until it is perfect. I just didn’t realize that I wasn’t the only one who was “afraid” to use my space when I wasn’t done with it! Why did I wait so long before accepting the reality of life as it is. I need my space, my “I can do this” space where I can make all the decisions and I am in charge of my own little world. I think that we all want to be able to escape from the inevitable ups and downs of everyday life as it is today. (And going forward too!)
Thank you for reminding me that enjoying the journey is actually more important than getting to the end.
And it’s so much more fun traveling this way when you can take your friends with you!

Such a lovely message Nancy! Thank you so much for sharing this today. It's a constant battle to accept things and be grateful vs pushing for more and feeling unsatisfied. I can get a ton of work done in my space and I love using it. But it's a constant mess in the middle of those big projects. Like now. Oh gosh. It's really a mess. But it's my mess and I'm grateful to have it!

Your sewing room is organized and personalized for you. There are sewing rooms to admire and there are sewing rooms with a story. I adore using objects I already have, getting creative repurposing age-old, ordinary-looking staples and working with any limitations (as space is a luxury to begin with). The resulting look is unique (though not Instagram conformist) and dignified because it respects the space and the user. Also love that your room will grow with you over time. What could be more authentic and... Beautiful?

I love to clean out my sewing area, keeps me on task. Also keeps me from buying more fabric that I don’t need. It’s like shopping for free! Life is always changing to include our sewing and crafting places. We may not always have the space we want or the natural lighting we crave but I think we all try to make it own, and how cool is that! Thanks for sharing your ideas and your very positive smiling face!!

Thank you so much Susan! I completely agree with you! As humans, do we ever have everything we "want?" Part of our nature is to always be searching for more. But...remembering to appreciate what we currently have being grateful for that is incredibly important. I know you understand, and it's always a joy to have our very own space to enjoy our sewing.

Exciting evolution, Patty. Can't wait to see what comes next! I think by taking it space by space, you will make the space you have work for YOU! Also, I think your space is REAL! People sometimes have their office area in a corner of the dining room, or their sewing machine in the living room, not in entirely separate rooms. They just don't admit it. But it is what it is and your attitude of gratefulness is a good reminder to celebrate and enjoy what we do have. Appreciate the visit! See you next time. From Cheryl in AZ.

      @PattymacMakes  3 года назад

Oh Thank YOU so much Cheryl!! I appreciate such kind feedback. When I started getting more "serious" about creating my channel, I decided that being very real and upfront with viewers would be part of my branding. I really am the same as my wonderful viewers at home. I just film and share my escapades here. I think in this current environment where, honest to goodness, we truly do not what is real anymore, that it's critical I stick to to the foundation of authenticity. It's not flashy or glamorous, but I know that personally I'm sick of that kind of thing, and I feel that many others are as well. I appreciate your kind support and I will endeavor to continue to share my own style of content creation.

Thank you so much Susan! I'm still over here in a bit of shock that it's taking me such a long time to get all of this sorted out. It's been eye opening to realize how long I've let things go and how much I needed to do around here. I'm so grateful I can stop and take the time to get through every thing like this. Otherwise it would never get completed and I think I'd be in a perpetual state of stress about it. I'm getting through the garage and shed now, which is a massive project to complete. Then I have quite a bit of paperwork to complete and a car to sell. So still a lot, but I am making steady progress even if it's not as fast as I would like.

We had better be grateful for what we have as we are seeing so much being taken away destroyed etc. in this country on all levels of life. I love your space...it looks so happy. I gave up perfection years ago and feel all the better for it. My space is a rather cramped dining room but adequate work surfaces for what I do. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend :)

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  3 года назад +2

Thank you Kathy! Oh yeah, don't get me started. I try my best to stay off the current events, because we all already get so much of it, and I think it's important to provide an escape from it. A place where things are still normal. I pray the rest of it gets back to normalcy again. And soon. The best work space is the one we have and that does what we need it to do. Because I film videos, my needs are very different from my viewers, so I always like to remind people of that. I need that space and light for filming, but to be honest, it is FABULOUS for the work! I'm taking time outside this weekend while the weather is so nice to finally get some of the outside cleaned up. It's been an absolute disaster, so it feels good to start cleaning it up.

This is of the best "sewing room" videos I have seen. I work at the Kitchen table. My husband and I are both artists and do our work where ever there is room in our little apartment. I can leave my sewing stuff all set up but, it never is neat and I have stacks of materials and supplies everywhere. This is the year I get more organized and straighten up. Thanks so much for your videos. Love them and you.

    • @PattymacMakes

Thank you SO MUCH Bea for an incredibly kind comment! I'm not sure I deserve that level of praise, but I appreciate it nonetheless. Yes, we Artist folk are some messy people!! LOL!! It's always several works in progress and stuff everywhere. I'm working on getting things tidy and coming up with strategies for keeping myself better organized. But it's a difficult thing for an artistic spirit! I believe in sharing my real journey and how I honestly do my work. It's an imperfect solution. but I am an imperfect person. I won't apologize for being authentic. I believe it's what people need right now. We don't know anymore what's real or what is fake, so my goal is 100% real all the time. Then we all have something grounded to hold onto. I appreciate your comment SO MUCH.

I love watching your videos! My sewing room is very small. Years ago, I had a corner in the family room -also very small. Our house is very small. My sewing room is the room that used to be my daughter’s and when she moved out over 13 years ago, it became mine. It keeps get smaller. I have a table that I will never get rid of but it’s a little high for short me to set up my sewing machine, so I got a little table with an acrylic insert specifically for my machine from Leah Day. It was a couple of years ago and it was an incredible deal. I have a Sullivan folding cutting table too. There are other furniture items, so the room keeps getting smaller but they all serve a purpose. When everything is set up, it’s very tight. I have to move things around to make it all work. I love my room though. I spend so much time here and it looks over my backyard (right now it’s totally snowing in Aurora, Colorado!). My husband has said that if we ever moved, he knows that a sewing room is a necessity. I’m like you, I don’t move as fast anymore, but I still do move. I love you sweatshirt. I would totally buy it if I saw it at a store! My rule that I try to mostly keep -is that I have to clean up the entire room when I finish a project and before I start anything new. If I don’t do that, it gets depressing. My room is my happy place and I want to keep it happy!

Thank you Valerie! It is remarkable how much space it really takes to have a well equipped sewing room! I struggled with putting myself in this room, but the light is honestly the deciding factor in the equation. It makes all the difference in the world for me. And on the nice days, I don't even need to set up an artificial light which is the BEST. The most important thing is that we love and use what we have, and it sounds like you gets lots of use in yours.

I found myself forgetting to be grateful, too. It's easy to do when the news cycle is so terrifying and depressing. But I stopped watching all tv and that really helped! Now I make sure to stay in gratitude as I'm doing things that I enjoy and don't enjoy so much. Doing laundry is a good one because I can remind myself to be happy for the items I'm washing and for having a washer and dryer at home. That's a BIG one!

Don’t know if you’ve ever watched her but she has a very soothing voice and I just love her. It’s not really sewing it’s more about on her farm and she has recipes that she makes online and she’s just a joy to watch. I pieced my space together with what I had on hand but bought when absolutely nothing else would work. Like you, my space is not a boutique sewing area (although your space is honestly very lovely), but I feel like a million bucks every time I’m in there. Funnily enough, I spent my weekend reorganizing the whole space - everything in drawers, all my fabric was re-folded...it’s a very fluid space because life is a fluid experience and I was at a point where I had to rethink parts of it, as those parts weren’t functioning so well.

Thank you so much for sharing your process and outlook! I purchased the island to use as a cutting and work space about a month or so ago and the Kallax as an organizer at Christmas. Having fun is more important than being fancy!

Patty, I think I posted to one of your previous videos. My sewing area is a corner of my dining room. I dug out my mom's old sewing cabinet that has a chair that is part of the cabinet. It has drawers in the chair, and the top folds over when it is not in use. Our sideboard is the perfect height to fit underneath when it's open. I use the dining room table for cutting. It is big, and I have an inexpensive office chair that I can roll around the table when I'm cutting. I can't stand for very long without my back and knees hurting.

Beautiful room! My sewing room is a small bedroom with walls pale blue and the ceiling an even paler blue. White trim on doors and crown molding. The floor is hardwood, with a colorful, round area rug. I have white furniture from IKEA, including the 25 cubby system that I love for my fabric! Alas, my fabric has spilled out into other rooms. Hubby is very forgiving of my fabric expansion beyond the sewing studio! My sewing chair is Koala--which is excellent, especially for back issues and long sewing days. I found a large, ginger jar lamp at a store and filled it will old wooden spools of thread. My studio is my happy place!

Hi Patty! I loved this video and your thoughts about being thankful for what you’ve been blessed with💕You really inspired me to look at what I have and make the best use of it. My creative space is a small bedroom. My “cutting table” is a 4 ft x 2 1/2 ft folding table from Walmart. My daughter had four of those plastic bed risers for her dorm room so I have the table on top of those to make it a more comfortable height for my back. It’s not very stable though so your Ikea kitchen island idea REALLY appeals to me. You are creating a beautiful 🤩 space. I look forward to seeing each new step you share😊😊😊

Hi Cindy! The stability is an important factor! It makes a huge difference in your accuracy. The island was a big investment, and it was a job and a half to put together, but it's SO WORTH IT. awesome that you gifted yourself the right to use your living , big difference from the corner you once showed. my sewing space is not a designer perfect space either, it's a funny shaped 60 ft room. the entry wall has 3 ft, then an 8ft wall , then a 9 ft wall & finally a 5 ft wall, my sewing table is a folding table w/a 2 ft wide door, makes it more stable & gives space, the 9 ft wall has sturdy but cheap black resin shelves, holds all machines, books ,printer, various sewing & crafts stuff, 5ft wall has one other blk shelf for fabric. then closet holds other craft supplies, cabinet on wheels with my me made bodyform , plus a folding cutting table. used coat hangers to make hooks so shelves are covered with curtains on rods, crowded but things are easily accessed

Hi Kathy! Welcome and thank you for sharing your story. Yes, if I've learned one lesson in the past year, it's that I need to be much kinder to myself and others. And perfection is highly over rated. I'm just me and I''m hoping that by sharing my normalcy it inspires other people to feel comfortable in theirs. It is difficult to create a craft and sewing space, but I'm learning and I'm enjoying it along the way.

I will be setting up my room soon. I have an upstairs 12x14 bedroom that will be mine. I have to repaint and then paint a huge dresser that I carefully stripped years ago. I have a couple of other furniture pieces to be painted. That will cause me pain so it might take a while. I need to buy a bunch of Dollar Tree organizational pieces. I also have a twin size bed in there and had to change my intended colors because I may have a 21 year old grandson staying in there, too. Pink and lavender are out, I guess.

My old kennmore was my moms machine and i cannot give it up. Im going to do that!
And I am deciding on wall colors.. just got my chips from lowes. Looking for drapes, and a table with folding ends to use with my current table for quilts.
My ironing board needs a serious face lift.
I thought you were doing a live today? Did i miss that??
Yes! We get so caught up in buy buy bigger and better... we forget.
Most of what i use is repurposed items. My moms peg board will live in my sewing room with her machine. I have a used table that has large bamboo legs hahahaha! It must be an early 80s table but was given to me and is super strong. 👍

That sounds wonderful Charlotte! Quilting takes SO MUCH space. Oh my gosh. Congratulations on creating your very own space. I know you will love it!!

I love your cutting table as I use an older 4 ft table with a plastic 3 drawer drawer storage unit. I understand time is not alway available when you have someone to care for.

Thank you Margaret! It's not been easy to balance everything. I'm doing far less uploads than is my goal, but it's all I can manage. I hope to get caught up on some "life" things over the next few weeks, and be able to work more intently on video uploads. I also have my own website which should be updated a couple times a week as well. I do my best and pray for continuing health and that's all I can do. The new cutting table has turned out to be much better than I could have imagined. I absolutely LOVE it!

Went into my creative space. Yep! Its a derinite work in progress, but as i looked around at my zecond and likely third generation sewing machine, thrift store bought serger and multitude of fabrics. I am also blessed and at peace with the gifts of friends and family who donate as well. Its ok to never truky be finished per say. Thanks and blessed be.

It’s great that you repurposed your living room. Wonderful but I just wonder what do you do with friends and visitors that come over?

I don't have people over very often at this stage of my life, so it hasn't been an issue. I still have a dining table and outdoor spaces if someone does come over. Everyone is busy with working or chores or responsibilities so entertaining is not a priority anymore. Having a place to work is more important for me at this stage of life than having a living room that goes largely unused. I know it's unconventional, but it works for where I am in life right now. It's a great question!

I just found you, and I already feel like we’re old friends! Where did you get the floral rotary cutter? My sewing/stitching space is a basket and a folding table in the bedroom. But for now that’s enough.

What a nice thing to say, Gay! I'm happy to hear you feel so comfortable here. My hope is that people feel like they are having a visit with a neighbor, so that's what I always think about when I make the videos. The rotary cutter is something I picked up from Joann a while back. It's a 45mm size. I use it mostly, and like that size for my work. Your space sounds great! Any space we have that lets us enjoy our crafts is the perfect space.

Love your room! What you said about perfection stealing joy and gratitude is so true. I have been caught up in that cycle recently but now I’m feeling thankful for what I have ... which happens to be a very small bedroom. I Bought a trestle table from IKEA recently which is perfect for my machine and cutting mat. Feeling productive! Greetings from the UK x

In this current environment, I do believe it's incredibly important to hold onto gratitude and joy. You can do a lot in a small bedroom! If I were not filming videos I would be in a smaller bedroom, but it was becoming impossible to make the videos I wanted to make. So moving to this room with more space and improved lighting has made my video production 100% better. Though if I'm being honest, I do LOVE the extra space.

What a great way to pretty up the ironing board! Very lovely space! I'm sharing a sunroom where my work-from-home situation lives. (oh, well) Lovely windows but no place for a very-needed design wall. You're a fun YTbr! Thanks for your content.

Thanks Mona! I would love a sunroom! If I ever win the lottery, I would definitely add one off my kitchen. It's a dream of mine!

Your sewing space is really coming along beautifully! Love your fairy lights and furnishings. It feels like a peaceful, happy place. I'm working with what I have and grateful that I have a space in a small bedroom. After I get vaccinated, I plan on getting work done in my downstairs family room (kids are grown) and move my sewing. I look forward to frequenting Ikea! Stay strong!

Thank you Kim! You will love the change to the family room! I have thoroughly enjoyed my change and I'm excited to keep working on the space. I'm so ready to get back to Ikea! I have a couple of items on my list but they have not come in yet. So I'm waiting impatiently.
