You are a star! I have been quilting for 25 years and usually do not find lists of quilting tools helpful as I have a great collection of my own… but you identified products I didn’t have and weren’t aware of! I have been ordering and then using the recommended tools with great success and enjoyment. Congratulations on a great video. ❤️
I just found your video today. Very useful and informative. Not alot of extraneous babbling about ??? You get right to the point. Thanks alot for the info.
Cheaper DIYs…..You can make your own clapper by buying a small wooden chopping board and screwing a drawer handle on it 🤗 And I got my hubby to cut and sand me a strip stick from a half round stick bought from the homewares shop for a few dollars 🤗 And you can do the same thing as the binding presser with a couple of safety pins on your ironing board 🤗 I hadn’t seen that fabric relaxing pen iron tool tho, that’s interesting 🤗🤗 and rulers are one of my fetishes… hehe… I’m a sucker for buying ALLLLL the rulers even if half of them do the same thing!
This video blew my mind! I never even knew those things existed! A wool mat for your ironing board? A pen that irons? Crazy. Thank you so much for doing this video!
Thank you very much for this video. I use some of these products already. Thank you for your demonstrations, like the diagonal seam tape. This was very helpful as it wasn't working for me before.
I used steam on fabric that was fused to my Pelon batting and it made my fabric come undone and it made pleats in it…never again. Maybe just for ironing out seams but I seem to have no problem with my squares laying flat.
So many great tools but…Washing Tape and Binding Ease Tool must be the first purchases…thank you for sharing…love the clapper tool… it’ll be the 2nd purchase🌝
I love the HST Blocloc rulers but they are really expensive. I purchased a large one and use it for all sizes of HST’s. It works great and saved me a lot of money.
I know they are expensive! But they are such a great tool! You are wise in doing what you did to help you save money. You don't need all sizes! Thanks for the reminder.
What a great video! I’ve never seen some of these items & I usually go online everyday looking for what’s out there. I had a good laugh when you were talking about the Block Loc. I don’t think I could say it as many times. The Strip Stick had me laughing again! You speak very clear and I found the video very informative - I’ll look out for other from you. Jenny Cross (UK)
I will try the Magic but, in a spray bottle. Aerosol is not good for the environment. Careful with the wool mats. I've seen others use them and depending on what type of face plate you have; the wool could damage your iron. Great video - thank you!
Do you have a recommendation for a inexpensive decent iron? And omg that binding tool!!! I must have that. Binding is such a drag. Question tho. How does it slide over the sewed together pieces?
Irons are so difficult to find one that you like. I have had several over the years from not so expensive to really expensive. You might try a Black and Decker iron. I wish they still made good Sunbeam irons, but they don't. Good luck! The Binding Eaze tool is made of silicone which is why the fabric slips through and the iron can rest on it. I hope that helps.
I have and use all these products except the strip stick. Who makes it or where can I buy it? Fabric folding pen is my precision quilting tool. After I apply it I open the seam and press. It eliminates turn of fabric bulk in blocks with many seam intersections!
The Fabric Folding pen is such an awesome tool! You can purchase the Strip Stick through the link I provided at Fat Quarter Shop or do a general Google search for Strip Stick and you will be taken to the manufacturers website to purchase it there. That is where I purchased mine.
1) 2:00 Diagonal Seam tape 2) 4:51 Clapper 3) 6:31 Block Lock Ruler 4) 8:40 Strip Stick 5) 9:40 Wool Mat 6) 10:10 Binding Ease Tool 7) 12:10 Fabric Folding Pen. Links are in the “more” description at the top for those looking.
Unfortunately, no matter how your 100% cotton fabric is pre-shunk, it stays shrunk. Most quilters use cotton which is very prone to shrinkage. There are some quilters who pre-wash or pre-shrink all fabrics before using them in their quilts. I don't recommend pre-shrinking the precuts like layer cakes, jelly rolls etc. Due to the nature of cotton fabric, even if you use just water to pre-shrink your fabrics, your fabric will not unshrink. If you are worried about that do a lighter spray and your fabric will not shrink until you wash it. I hope this helps to clarify your question.
Do you find that the Block Lock is more accurate than the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer? This product only makes you cut once to trim and has notches to cut off the dog ears…all in one step.
How do you get a wool mat that doesn’t smell like burnt hair any time you use steam on it. Mine stinks so bad I can’t bare to use it. Also buy a binding machine for $100, they are so cool. I’ve never been as successful using that mat with my iron though.
The wool mat I have on my ironing board doesn't smell. But, the small one did for a long time, like a wet dog. It's just something to expect with a wool mat since it's wool. I will look into a binding machine, that sounds like a good tool!
Thank you Maggie for asking. I have put the links in. Hopefully, your local quilt shop will also start carrying some of these items if they don't already.
I don't have a store. I work in a quilt shop in St. George Utah called Quilted Works. I am just a lover of quilting and love sharing my favorite quilty things.
That is always a possibility, but I have tried a lot of other sprays and this one just seemed to be enough different that I felt it was worth the price!

Did not care for the music in the video but agreed with all of your tips! I have (and love) all of these items!
I use the fabric folding pen for turning up an edge for a hem or a 1/4" when you need to topstich.
What a great idea! I don't sew clothing but this is definitely a great tool for sewing anything!
Thank you for all the wonderful information!

I use and like the spray starch. I use a mister spray bottle which eliminates the odd odor I notice with aerosol sprays.
That is great. This spray has no odor in either the spray or the aerosol.
Great video. Really enjoyed it.
Great tools. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Love the binding pressing tool. I think i saw it at my local quilt show. I walked away thinking to go back but I forgot. I'll have to pick one up now

There were definitely some tongue twisters in there! Thank you for watching. There will be more coming!
Love this!! So helpful!!
Glad you liked it!!
I love this video it was so educational❤
Thank you! :)
I always thought it was such a time involvement to use starch. But what a difference it makes in accuracy. It is worth any time spent.

The ironing stick can be bought lumber store. Think it is called half rounded molding. Cover with muslin & silver iron cloth.
Great video!
Thanks!

If the Faultless spray shrinks the fabric when ironing, does it unshrink when washed?

To make HST could you sew in the middle and cut on the center line?
I've always used liquid sta-flo starch, diluted as desired. MUCH cheaper & can spray or dip fabric., as desired. Keeps fabric from stretching so badly
That's great advice!
The environment says: “I vote for the liquid spray bottle!”
Like listening to a Dr Suess story
Where can I find these products?
I have put the links in the description so you can now go and purchase the products. Thank you for watching.
I like my fabric to feel like fabric in my hands tho. Isn’t aerosol bad for the ozone?
Do you find that the Block Lock is more accurate than the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer? This product only makes you cut once to trim and has notches to cut off the dog ears…all in one step.
I could not find the binding ease tool on line to order. any ideas?
These wooden tools are actually all used in tailoring
There’s no link for the folding pen. Here can I find one?

Where can I find the beautiful inlaid clapper?
They are available with a Google search, but here is the link
quiltclapper.com/
Can you provide links to where these tools are available?
Thank you Maggie for asking. I have put the links in. Hopefully, your local quilt shop will also start carrying some of these items if they don't already.
Could someone please tell me what tool #4 is, I missed it.
1) 2:00 Diagonal Seam tape 2) 4:51 Clapper 3) 6:31 Block Lock Ruler 4) 8:40 Strip Stick 5) 9:40 Wool Mat 6) 10:10 Binding Ease Tool 7) 12:10 Fabric Folding Pen. Links are in the “more” description at the top.
Where is your store?
I don't have a store. I work in a quilt shop in St. George Utah called Quilted Works. I am just a lover of quilting and love sharing my favorite quilty things.
I could not find the binding ease?
Did you click on the links below the video? There is a link to the peacock color and a separate link to the pink Binding Eaze tools.
That spray is way iverpriced compared to others out there with the same results. Every experienced quilter knows about and uses a spray starch.
That is always a possibility, but I have tried a lot of other sprays and this one just seemed to be enough different that I felt it was worth the price!
Are you kidding? That spray is about $10 a can and you soak the fabric. Who can afford that when you can use about 6 cans a quilt.
I have never used 6 cans of spray for a quilt. It actually goes quite far.
