    On the handles for holding, I put a shower safety handle on my long 26'' x 6'' ruler. It works wonderful and haven't had any more of my wrist hurting me. Fabulous

    Tracy,
    I have been sewing since I was a teenager at home and way back when they used to have home economics! Yes, I am old. I used to sew my 3 children's clothes when material and patterns were cheap! I loved it. I learned a lot from my Mom by using whatever I had. Actually, I sewed my kindergarten daughter a Christmas dress out of satin curtains!!! Lol . I LOVE your ideas! The ruler hook is genuis!!! I have started making quilts but was getting aggravated about the 1/4 in seam allowance and not back stitching. Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you!!! I learned today that there's no one who's going to judge me or put me in jail if I do it the way my Mom taught me...always back stitch and line up fabric along the foot to sew! I truly don't know why I let videos and quilters convince me that was the only way it is done because it's not!!! Now, maybe I can get back to loving sewing again!!! You're a gem!!!!

    Clever and nifty ideas all of them… the ruler and commandhook idea was GENIOUS .. I am not much of a sewer but I do tinker around with moms sewing machine when I am bored… the ruler idea , I will use ot when I make graphite pencil drawings and sketches. I will help me draw perfect accurate line without messing up.
    Thank you.. ❤

    Remember the baker's who used to wrap your goodies in a box and then tie it together with string? Then the string was cut with a device on a ring? Well, that was invented by my deceased father's grandfather, a man from NYC, named Seamon. Really.

    When trying to cut your pool noodles use an electric knife. Cuts through pool noodles or foam like a champ. I use it in my profession when making splints or using foam pieces to make supports for wheelchairs etc. Really saves the wear and tear on your fingers from trying to use scissors.

    I love old Singer Sewing machines. I own three Singers (221, 301, and 328K). Those old Singers are beautiful hard working machines. I have never seen a finger hook before. That would have been very handy back when I worked in a factory that made jeans (we used snips that had a built on finger ring).

      I use old tie racks attached with screws to the edge of my cutting table on the skirt trim that supports the table top for small tool access as well. Yes, the shoe holder is wonderful for many useful storage needs. I hang one (canvas) on the back of my bedroom door for all the stretch straps for physical therapy exercises along with a jewelry clear bag hung over it for all those sheets of special instruction. Helps with the stiffness that comes with all that sitting and stretching when we sew for hours 😆

  • @TrappedinSLC

    Ruler hook is genius. But it’s best to let it sit for ~24 hours for the adhesive to cure before using it. Also make sure the ruler is really clean. I use an alcohol wipe on the area I want to stick a command strip to, then let it dry thoroughly, then stick. Gets rid of any possible traces of oil like from fingers that might interfere.

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  4 года назад +3

      Great tip on cleaning it with alcohol first✅✂️🤓

    • @hartsarah12
      @hartsarah12 2 года назад +2

      Hmm that may be why mine never work. I do not let them sit.

    • @TrappedinSLC
      @TrappedinSLC 2 года назад +2

      @@hartsarah12 A trick I just heard about but haven’t tried yet for some really slick surfaces is to use a Magic Eraser sponge GENTLY on the area where you want to stick it, then alcohol. The Magic Eraser is a very fine abrasive so it can scuff up the surface just enough that you get better grip. Though this might make a mark on the surface you’re using it on so I’d proceed with caution.
