My husband took one look and said, "Now I suppose you want one just like it." (He heard you say you were sanding and wondered why someone who usually sews would need to sand, so I showed him.) Actually, I would like one! It's beautiful 🥰❤️🥰
Thank you for showing all of the steps. So many videos skip steps or just verbally explain it and it leaves a void in my brain. Your process is how my mind works. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I'm returning to quilting at 70. I too have been looking for an extension table. Since I also used to do my own carpentry, you have given me to incentive to make my own (and a pattern).. You did a great job with very few "misstep". It really looks professionally done. Please let us know how it works.
Beautifully done. Once the varnish has truly cured through, you can wax it with car wax just like you would wax your car, and the fabric wil just slide ever so smoothly in all directions.
I would pay you for one fitting my sewing machine. Its metal, model from the 70's but I use it daily, its my working horse. Now I have started adventures with patchwork ..A table like that would help a lot....Thanks for sharing.
I am into quilting, an in dire need of this kind of table. I have a 1120 singer, an older model and no table is made forr it. Custom tables are too expensive. So I thought, I'll make one and researched. Found you video and it was very helpful!!😊
For those who do not do woodworking you could also use foam board. You can make card board legs out of card board folded into squares & hot glued to the bottom. Cover it all with contact paper to make it slippery. Most foam board is 20x30 and only a $1 at the Dollar Store. Don't worry if you screw it up, you are not out much! It you get it right the first time. It might cost you about $2 for foam board & contact paper. I suggest making a template from cardboard or poster board first to get it so it fits nicely then use it for the pattern to cut the foam board. You can double the foam board & legs if you need it more heavy duty.
Girl, I am super impressed! The extension you made is much larger than the one I spent big bucks for, and I’ve been wanting a larger extension. I don’t have any experience with a saw, but I’ll practice on some scrap wood until I feel comfortable
I was more lazy than her. I bought a cheap bed folding table from the supermarket. The ones you use for breakfast in bed, It was only 5 bucks - a sturdy wood plate with foldable plastic feet. I used a hand saw to shorten the feet and cut out the hole to slide my machine in. Took me about one hour and then off I went quilting..... 😁
Not just an extension table but a beautiful piece of furniture! I think the light wood is best to be able to see your projects as you work on them. Oooooh quilting, can't wait!
Great job! Now it's time to make drawers for it, OR, just use utensil or desk drawer dividers to slide underneath. It's a great place to store those often used items we always need close at hand.
This brilliant!! You are so clever! My husband made me one today after watching your video. I love it and thank you for showing us how to made it! You’re a superstar!! 🤩👍
A big thank you from France, finally I will be able to extend my sewing machine to the size I want (still too small for my convenience)..great video!!..
This was great! As someone who recently (pandemic times) began sewing and woodworking, this is a keeper. Yours is just beautiful. You did a wonderful job on those rounded corners.
Hola! Comencé a ver el video pero apenas te escuché decir que ibas a hacerla tú misma, ME GUSTÓ! Y antes de seguir pulsé el pulgar arriba. Te feliicito!
Wow! The extension table is absolutely beautiful!! You did an absolutely amazing job!! 👏 I can't afford a store bought extension table, but now, because of you, I will be able to save up and make my own!😁👏 Thank you!
I made one for my machine from cardboard & Paper Mache. The only cost involved was the glue & sandpaper which amounted to a few dollars. It's as sturdy as one made from wood.. and no power tools! I even painted it with flowers & doodles then coated it with a glossy varnish. I already had the paint & varnish from other projects.
I made one from Styrofoam and glue. My brother used Styrofoam and glue when he made a decorated arch for a room for his wife. When she wanted to change the look again it took a small sledge hammer to break it to take down. Yes it is amazing how strong cardboard & paper mache can be if done properly.
@@alissagonzales735 I am not sure I undetstand the glue, do you mean you glued on the legs, or was glue used over the styrofoam? At any rate, what an interesting idea. I know that Styrofoam structures for trim, crown molding and other usual wood items can be purchased. So why not make a table. Plesse post a video, I would enjoy watching you make one.
That’s brilliant!! It’s looks so lovely. When my husband used to travel for work he never knew what he would come home to. Once he came home to find I had ripped out the lower cabinets and built my own. He didn’t like the design but then did the job for years until he redid it all with proper cabinets! Then there were the animals lol. He got home once to discover a large cat had taken up residence. I asked the kids and a few friends we all thought it was a wonderful idea. Still miss that cat. Another time he came home to no wall between the kitchen and dining room and subfloor in the dining room. We were taking too long to agree on new floors and the dining room had an off white carpet! Our kids were were 5, 7 and 9 subfloor was much easier to keep up! He doesn’t travel much anymore and he’s ignoring the fact I’m ripping up the upstairs hallway to redo the floors. Then I think I will take the carpet off the stairs paint them and get a nice runner. Grandson still runs up and down so we need something for grip! I think I will have to and a table top for a couple of machines to my list!
A woman after my own heart! We built our own house some years ago and then 5 yrs ago I renovated the current house which had been trashed by a previous disgruntled tenant. Just because we are female doesn't mean we are not capable and/or totally useless. I've seen some men who wouldn't know which end of a hammer to use! ;-))
Lucky me found the acrylic extension table for my sewing machine second hand for 50 €. Never used, with the blue plastic sticking to it, an additional straight stitching plate and a quarter inch foot. The store price is around 200 €. Love it and sew seldom without it. If I hadn’t it already I would follow your instructions.
Thank you, I have just built a extension table for my sewing machine using your tutorial. I couldn't buy an extension table for my machine anywhere in Australia, only overseas and postage was more than the product. So thank you again for sharing this. I'm 62yo and if I can do it so can you. :)
Love it, and so timely, I just got a new sewing machine and the extension table is a ridiculous price for a piece of plastic. I will just have to get the tools out. At least you know it isn't going shatter or snap like plastic and it's more environmentally friendly. Thanks for the inspiration. 👏👏👏
@@EnchantedRoseCostumes I've made several extension tables for various machines, but used plexiglass. It's easy to cut with a jigsaw and comes with a removable paper protection layer, so you just draw your pattern on the paper and once completed just peel the paper off and doesn't need painting, only a quick sand on cut edges to remove burrs and protect fabric from snagging. Hint...sometimes plexiglass gets scratched at the hardware store and they sell it much cheaper. Small scratches will polish out with toothpaste but I don't usually bother because pins etc soon scratch it when sewing. You did a great job on your Spruce table and should be pleased with the results.
Luckily my own Janome had a quilting table extension coming with it, because I hate sanding with the heat of a thousand melting suns. But you did a wonderful job!!
Gorgeous extension table! GREAT BIG WARNING TO ANYONE DOING THIS !!!! It is mandatory to treat both sides of any wood with the same finish. If you only paint/varnish/polyurethane one side the table is guaranteed to warp over time. This also holds true with plywood. An unfinished side will absorb more moisture over time than the finished side causing warpage.
Pretty darn good! I've been eying off the acrylic extensions but they are so pricey. Might just have a try myself. Thank you for sharing your project. Cheers.

You did an AMAZING job on that sewing table! You should sell your idea to the sewing industry. That is the size of table that is needed for sewing. I have (2) plastic extension tables for (2) different expensive sewing machines and neither one fits the machine properly. That's what the sewing industry does is make junk. Have fun with your new table. I know you will!
KstieLove: Yes and she kept the table front a reasonable size. The table I purchased has way too much extension at the front. I do not want to be 8" from the needle. My table is a poor design, and not the configuration I was told.
Thank you for this video. I have started quilting using my normal sewing machine and looked at purchasing an extension table. You are right, they are far too expensive for what they are. I too am a little handy with wood, and had planned to make something similar, though I wasn't going to make it go as far as the throat like yours. I am now going to copy yours exactly, having seen the end result! When you are cutting wood or ply, if you put some tape over the cutting line, it reduces the splintering.

Wonderful project! A couple of tips: Most jigsaws let you angle the blade, so you could have undercut the sections against the curved part of your machine and had it fit tighter. Plus a little palm or 1/4 sheet hand sander is not very expensive. I like the 1/4 sheet hand sanders best - they use 1/4 of a full sheet of sand paper instead of custom sand paper so they are cheaper to use. I'm buying a new sewing machine soon and if it doesn't come with a good table, I will copy your idea and make me own! Thank you for the detailed DIY video.

Well done!! Sanding is always my least favourite part of pretty much anything I do, whether it's woodwork, auto body or drywalling... congrats on doing such a nice job!
I wish I’d known you were going to make this! I put a thick masking tape (not duct tape) atop the board and trace my pattern on the tape. Since I’ll copiously sand, it doesn’t matter that it has minute chips. Good news, you know for next time. P.S. I add a hard car wax atop my varnish (carnauba paste wax). Then buff with panty hose. It makes it slick as spit and since I do all the wood, no snags
Very beautiful!! My Brother machine came with a small extension table, but I've been wanting and needing something MUCH BIGGER and Nicer.... just like this one that you've made!! ♡♡♡♡ Thanks for making this video showing how you made your's! ❤ This is my task for this week!!! Thanks bunches!! I'm glad that I found your channel! I just hit the Subscribe button!!! ♡♡♡
Great idea! I had thought about making one for a Sewing Machine, but for some reason I didn't think to use wood. That is beautiful, durable, and customized. Great job!
Congratulations!!! It turned out beautifully. I hope it makes your sewing so much easier for you now. It's always a pain to try to keep the fabric from falling onto the floor without an extension and then of course, the straight of grain line gets goofed up and then comes the picking out of the stitches! So, congratulations again!!!
so beautiful!!! Bravo! I need to get the tools from my husband and get building one for my Singer machine! Thanks for such great detail on each step you took, and tools utilized.
That is fantastic! I think this is what will be done for my Janome Skyline S5 because I cannot afford the table specifically sold for this model. Wow, I love it!

Gracias probaré, increíble. Quedó perfecta. Y más grande que las que se ofrecen comercialmente. 💯💯💯💯💯💯
Wow this is truly a beautiful add on table you made. I was just looking to make one and this is just great. Nice job 👌👏👏👏👏
Отличная идея. Золотые руки! Браво! Я восхищена.
Great job! Thank you, I am SO adding this to my list, right under the wall rack for all my quilting rulers and mats!
braVO! I have the HD 3000 and make bags and have wished I had more room. Inspiration! Thank you!
To make rounding the edges faster, use a "pocket plane" - it's a small inexpensive rasp.
Wow, I absolutely love this sewing desk
I totally need to make one of these now. Especially for when I get the nerve to free motion quilt on my home machine.
I did this but used foam core board from the dollar store. Its great and durable.
OMG that is fantastic. Great job. Wish I could do something like that. Love the natural look too.
You go girl , you did the damn thing💯💪🏼.
Thanks for posting
Muy creativa señorita hermosa. Me gustó su trabajo.
That is a great idea, and you are very handy with the woodwork. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much!
so beautiful!!! Bravo! I need to get the tools from my husband and get building one for my Singer machine! Thanks for such great detail on each step you took, and tools utilized.
You are so welcome! Good Luck with your table!
That is fantastic! I think this is what will be done for my Janome Skyline S5 because I cannot afford the table specifically sold for this model. Wow, I love it!
