    I was curious so tried to google who the 28 year old qb was when he was a freshman.. what I found was kind of weird. The 2005 roster they have posted doesn’t even include him, and the 2006 roster they have posted has him listed as a sophomore and his backup was a junior.
    Definitely not saying he’s a liar. But I tried to look it up as he said too and found a difficult time. Any one else have luck? My only guess would be Michael Machen but he was the junior I was referring too

    • @Kitty8791
      @Kitty8791 4 месяца назад +1

      So the topic that leads into this discussion is at 13:45. I wasn't going to look it up, but your comment got me curious & I went down the rabbit-hole.
      So Jules started at JuCo: College of San Mateo 2005-2006 so he shouldn't be on the roster. He was at Kent State 2006-2008.
      I think Jules exaggerated about this particular guy being "28yo" . . . more like 24yo, but still he was ~5-years older than Julian & much bigger! I saw various heights/weights, but most put him at 6'6" & 230-lbs.
      Michael Steven Machen (DOB 10/5/81) of Mobile, AL, graduated McGill-Toolen High School & was drafted by the MLB. The Atlanta Braves took him in the 14th round (pick #430) of the 2000 Amateur Draft in June. He was in the minor league system & self-professed 'relief pitcher.' 2000-2001 Atlanta Braves & 2002 Baltimore Orioles. He then decided to return to football in 2003.
      He was convinced to come to Alabama as a walk-on by Coach Dennis Franchione, who he claimed would treat him like a scholarship athlete (the Braves covered all his college tuition as this was in his contract). However, the coach left for Texas A&M! The new coach Mike Shula wanted his own guy, Brodie Croyle, at QB so he was relegated to scout team offense & never played a snap in a game.
      Following that he went the JuCo route. Spent 2004 at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas & had a great season 10-2.
      He nearly transferred to Nebraska, but went to Kent State in 2005 & had an abysmal record of 1-10 (only beat SouthEast Missouri State). Likely why they sent scouts out to California to look at Jules.
      This guy broke his collarbone 10-days before the start of the 2006 season, when Julian came in as a sophomore & took the QB1 position. Machen graduated from Kent State in December 2006 w/ a degree in Finance.
      He then transferred to Baylor as a graduate student (masters program) in 2007 & sat a season (pre-transfer portal days - spring '06). Fall '07 he competed w/ Blake Syzmanski for the starting position. In one article it said that Blake called him 'Uncle Mike' b/c of his "life experience & elder status." Doesn't seem he played many games & never made it into the NFL.
      Now give me a cookie! 🍪🤣
