Sitar Pad Drone Improvisation - C# - 9/24/2024

Improvisation performed using an Ableton sitar pad instrument while improvising using my Ibanez Axion Label Midnight Tropical Rainforest guitar. I experimented a fair bit on this recording, and while it isn't exactly revolutionary I think doing this for even ten minutes helped me see some flaws in the contour of my playing. This is a method recommended and endorsed by the artist Adam Meckler, and I can see why. This is worth a try if you haven't done it before and are looking to force yourself out of your comfort zone with improvisation!

Some amp setting tricks for Archetype plugins: Play with the microphones. This recording used the Dynamic 421 and Shure 353 mic IRs and I love how they sound together. EQ is also crucial, so make sure you utilize a multi-band EQ or be able to boost/cut certain frequencies. I like to take a 3dB reduction to 200hz and 1khz and then boost around 7khz at 3dB. This reduces a bit of mud and adds in some high end for a sharper tone, which isn't for everyone and isn't objectively great, but just understand what you're going for.
